Default 50% House fees in Scotland!

Ack! So it's T-minus-6 days before I leave for Scotland...I think I have everything sorted, but there's just one thing that keeps bugging the heck out of me:

The club I chose, which appears to have the best overall potential (from what I could find out online) for Glasgow, takes a flat 50% of everything as house fees! It sounds like that's all inclusive (tips &etc). Nevertheless, this seems RIDICULOUS!

I'll pay it if earnings justify it, but I'm having trouble seeing this happen...my min. goal is an average of 400 pounds a night, which means 800 pounds. 10 pound dances, 8 hour shift, stage tips are apparently rare...those champagne rooms better sell like hotcakes is all I keep thinking.

Note that other clubs in Glasgow charge 5 pounds per dance...but of course, all this means is that the guys will be whining about how "it's only 5 pounds at blahblahblah's".

Sigh. What I'm really looking for here is someone who's made good $$ in a club that took that amount in fees to tell me it'll all be worth it!

    Anyone?

It's in these types of clubs that you have to be on top of your game. When I worked at VIP's, by the time I got done tipping everyone out, and paying house fee...I would estimate that I left with 1/2 of what I made. And, though I had some "skinny" nights, I usually walked with $500+ dollars a night (mind you, I only worked one night a week). It's hard letting go of 1/2 of your earnings...but I know even when I did let go of 1/2 my earnings, I was still making MORE than I would have anywhere else.

Plus, you being the "new meat" will most likely help your earnings a bit in the beginning.

the best club in the area usually has the highest housefees, so that's a good sign!

Do they take a percentage of dances and champagne rooms too? Do you have to tip out also?

Many top earnings potential clubs 'extort' tons of money from dancers, so this isn't all that surprising to hear.

Throughout the Northeast US, it is pretty typical for lap dance clubs to keep a hefty percentage of customer money spent on private dances/VIP room. Many clubs that don't charge dancers a separate stage fee keep up to 50% (i.e. customer is charged $20 per private dance, of which the club keeps $10 and the dancer gets the other $10).

Many super-upscale 'gown clubs' (that don't make a #1 priority out of lap dances) allow dancers to keep 100% of their tips and other earnings. However, these clubs are known to charge dancers nightly stage fees of $200, $300 or more. Unlike the percentage deal, hefty stage fees place the dancer in the position of potentially LOSING money if they don't earn enough from customers to cover the cost of the stage fee.

In both cases above, clubs also require mandatory tipouts to DJ, bouncers, house mom etc. - which effectively means that a girl working in a 50% split lap dance club actually gets to keep only 40-45% of her gross earnings after tipouts are added to the expenditure side of the equation.

My advice is not to get wrapped up in the particulars. Remember the old adage that 'it takes money to make money'. Keep in mind that 45% of $1000 in gross earnings is still quite a bit more take-home money than keeping 100% in a club with a $250 earnings potential.

Sigh..yeah, I guess I'll just wait and see what happens. If it's ridiculous (like I'm making 500 pounds but paying out 250), I'll take off and go to London.

What about the rest of Scotland in re: clubs and earnings? Just that I always hear about how London is over-saturated with strip clubs hence the earning potential isn't so great.

As for percentage clubs, I know here in Australia and in particular on the Gold Coast there is one club where you pay a flat fee of 45% of every private dance (it's a particular $ amount when it's broken down).... that's it.

    No more tip-out or anything.

I can't believe what I'm reading You mean you girls don't keep everything that you make? SHIT! I thought it was like a waitress makes a token salery but the real pay is from tips and dances. You have to pay them to dance? WTF would they do without the dancers? I mean who the hell is going to go to a strip club without the dancers. You girls need a union.

Do not focus on the gross, follow the net. 250 pounds is worth $429. If you can walk out the door with $429 per night, the true net depends on relative living costs and quality of life.

If some one paid me $2 mill per year and wanted a $1 mill kickback, I would not give a shit about the kickback--I ended up with $1 million so long as I did not have to pay taxes on $2 million. Since you are a business, the net of expenses is what gets taxed.

^ I agree with you monty, but you must remember not every dancer walks out of the door every night with the most she could have pulled for herself- sometimes the house gets the lion's share of one's earnings. Hence, my bratty refusal to work anywhere that I might end up making more for the house than me. (I decided that the night I made MINUS my stage fee- I fricking paid for the privilege to make the house money.)
(Also why I love to hate SC management. My favorite "dancers get back at exploitive boss" story was when they used his club to deal drugs out of- they made more dealing than dancing. LOL)

I'll never work in a 50% commission club again, not because of the high percentage, but because of the whole not-holding-on-to-your-own-money aspect of it (ie being paid in tokens and reimbursed your share at the end of the night).

I've mentioned elsewhere (and will be mentioning in my review of Diamond Dolls) that I ended up being stolen from by the club (ie not paid what I earned one night) due to a bogus accusation of theft. When it came down to it, despite contacting all local authorities, workers rights groups etc, nothing could be done. Never ever again- I will always handle my own financial transactions with customers from now on!

Besides which, a percentage commission only benefits low earners.

Oh, and fyi, the locval girls, on top of 50% commission, had to pay 50 pounds a night to work! More than half walked out in the hole most nights.

    *shakes head*. Awful.

    (note to self: trust gut)
