    Default My music

Im getting a new computer Wed. and I want to take my music from my HP laptop to my new HP desktop. Is there an easy way of doing this?

I dont trust people who work at best buy. They are mostly kids who will just tell you anything for you to buy something and they can look good.

If the two PC's are relatively new, you could network them with Firewire and copy the music directly from the laptop to your new PC.

On a 256mb jump drive you could transfer about 125 mp3's at a time. It could take less than 10 minutes. Bigger jump drive, faster results! There are may options, a 256 mb jumpdrive is pretty inexpensive these days.

But wouldn't it be cheaper still to go the firewire route? That's what I would do just because i've done it before, and it's fairly simple.

    Tiff,
Describe how to do it if you don't mind. I never have just used a cable - firewire or usb. I've used a jump drive or mp3 player in a similar situation. If it can be done easier and in 10 minute or less - You've got my interest. Rockie

Do both computers have network cards? If they do you can use the Network Wizard to create network and just transfer the files-no jump dive needed. The firewire option is faster if both machines have a fire wire port.

Your welcome Rocky. BTW, depending on the speed and size of your hard drive you may find an external HD w/ firewire is a better place to store your music. Music files take up a ton of space.

Also, the external is a great place to back up all of your files....you guys DO back up your files don't you????

I'm assuming the laptop doesn't have a CD burner?

If not, a bigger USB flash drive (a 512mb or larger) should work but it can be kind of time consuming.
    512 MB drive
    1 GB Drive

How many songs you can transfer on each trip will depend on the size of the drive and what bitrate the MP3s are encoded at.
