    Default Omega 6? Omega what?

I've been taking Tonalin CLA on and off for over a year. I like having super soft skin, and it has helped me a little in the weight department.

The other day, I was reading an article in SELF, and it mentioned getting fewer Omega 6 fatty acids and more Omega 3's. It listed safflower oil as an Omega 6. Isn't CLA from safflower oil? Is my beloved Tonalin hurting my heart??

Also, I can't find that thread about the girl who claimed she got a kidney infection from this stuff. I thought it was impossible since CLA is a fat. But this morning I woke up to some seriously sore kidneys and I have no idea why.

I've been doing searches, but the internet seems to be void of information today, so perhaps someone here can help?

I'm really sorry, but I can't help you with the omega 6 issue.

However, I've had my fair share of kidney infections, so here's a few things to check for:
    High fever
If someone pokes you in the back (massage, gentle touches, etc. not a hard poke) it doesn't make it hurt worse (If this does make it hurt worse, chances are you pulled a muscle instead of a kidney problem)
Urinating/feeling like you need to urinate every 5 minutes (slight exageration, but you get what I mean)
Sudden urges to urinate when changing possitions. Esp. if laying down or sitting, and it lessens when you stand up
Urine is odd colour - esp. brownish or reddish
    Pain when you urinate

Now, if you have a fever and have to pee all the time and someone rubbing your back doesn't make it hurt worse, I suggest going in and getting a urine test to see if you have a kidney infection.

I'd also like to remind you to not let the power of suggestion make you sick. (I'm prone to that, so I figured I'd throw that out there)
I really hope this helped at least a little, an' I'm sorry I couldn't help more.

Tonalin CLA does drain water out of you..that might explain the sore kidneys, they're running on less fluid...

Take salmon oil pills for Omega 3....GNC has very good ones.

I just have to say this...take it how it's needed:

I used to love pickles. I ate them every day, especially in the summer. Now, one day I ate a few pickles and woke up in the middle of the night puking them up. Was it the pickles or was it that I had a slight touch of the stomach flu and pickles just aggravated it?

Sometimes we are getting sick with something and attribute it to the last "most obvious" thing to blame.

CLA is very healthy for you. What's not healthy is eating "force fed" animals who are not allowed their "normal" diet because the greed of other people. CLA used to be commonly found in all grass-eaters. It's hardly found anymore in mass meats because they are now being given genetically modified foods to make them fatter and give the growers more to sell and make.

If you are at all uncomfortable with taking this stuff....then you should stop. The power of the mind is stronger than most people are willing to admit.

I don't know...I have the same concerns, which is why I don't take CLA anymore.

Yes, it's true, most people DO get too much Omega 6 already. It's all about the balance though, so if anything, until you get an answer that pleases you, up your Omega 3 intake.

    Truth.

Isn't CLA from safflower oil? Is my beloved Tonalin hurting my heart??
This is why taking CLA derived from 100% safflower is critical--not all CLA is safflower derived. Read the label if you're shopping WalMart or something, or just hit your local GNC and get the Pro Performance Tonalin CLA. Some good info on CLA. More here.

You still need CLA, but by taking the softgels you don't have to ingest the protein of animals that have been injected with hormones and antibiotics. The same is true for a great many of the amino acids that will enhance any and all of your exercise routines by preventing the cannibalizing of muscle tissue during extended workouts.

Thanks for shedding light on the subject, guys.

VenusGoddess, I get what you're saying. I have had nothing but good results from CLA, and I really doubt it's harmful- I just got paranoid when I saw that SELF article. I drank a ton of water and cranberry juice yesterday and my kidneys aren't as sore today. I think it was just dehydration.

I will stick with my CLA, thank you- and get plenty of Omega 3's too, of course.
