Personally I wouldn't trust a Wal-mart salon. Seems like cost cutters to me and I think they're awful.

Heh.. I got my hair done at a Wal-Mart Salon-- last resort, I'm in a new area. I didn't have it cut, just dyed. I didn't even give her a really good description- I just asked her if she could match the rest of my hair to the ends, which are a lot lighter. My hair is naturally dark blond, but bleaches easily in the sun- but only the top layers. She did a *great* job. And from what I could tell, she did a great job on everyone else that came there, too. However, she wasn't very friendly (although that's something I kind of prefer). And this could rely a lot more on the actual stylist, not that it was at a Wal-Mart salon. And she did have kind of an "okay, this is what you want, let's do it, okay you're done" attitude. Of course, she was the only one working on a Saturday; it was busy. *shrug*
I'd say that you're okay, as long as you're not having something really complicated done (i.e, bleaching it, then dying it, then adding highlights).
Oh, and it was $50 total for my hair-- $15 extra 'cause mine is long. And that's if you don't let her style it/blow dry it. I was too broke!

The salon at Wal Mart is called smart styles. It's actually not a bad place to get a haircut. They require a certain amount of continuing education and are basically up to date on new cuts and styles. If you are wanting to be frugal, I would reccomend them over a fantastic sams. The wal mart salon is in the same family as great clips and sport cuts, too.

    Good luck.

Oh and about the flat iron, isnt it the one you use on wet hair? If it is, I think you should be careful. It's not good for your hair at all.

If you are getting the Maxi-glide, don't get the mini one. Peice of junk. I took it out of the box and it felt cheap and like it would fall apart really easily. I boxed it back up and sent it right back. Way too expensive for something that cheaply made.
