    Default Pill change.

    Hello,
the Pill, meant to make our lives so simple...so why the worries?!!
I have been on the Microgynon 30 pill for 5 years now.No problems, but my doctor suggested I try and switch to Dianette because of my recent acne problems.
If I do this will it be a big deal? Do these brands differ amazingly?
Also I like to take Pill sometimes three back to back, is it ok with Dianette?
Also heard it boosts sex drive, as I have been on Microgynon since I was 18 and first having sex I do not know if this will be true or not!

    All advice greatly appreciated ladies.

When did you start having acne? Recently? When I was on the pill and taking it back to back so I'd go 3 months without my period, it screwed with my intestinal tract. I started having bad acne because the hormones in pills go all the way thru your iintest. tract and kill the good bacteria there. Since I have had a personal experience with this happening to me after almost 10 years of pill use, I feel the need to get the word out about BC pills and the effects they could potentially have on your body. Please read the information on the attached link. BC pills are bad for your body after you have been on them continually for more than a few years.

^Hmm, that is interesting Phedre. I have had tummy problems for years but I chalked it up to an unhappy relationship & traveler's sickness....could it have been the Pill?.....
I have been on and off of Pills since I was 19 and it always helped my problem skin. I always let my periods happen because I thought it was healthy to do so & stretched my Pill supply.
In case a woman feels her intestines are being harmed by the Pill hormones, she can insert the tablet into her vaginal canal, next to her cervix. This is not gross, this is what you do if you have the flu & can't keep anything down, but need to take your Pill.
Tallulah, have you tried low-level Pills, like Yasmin and Mircette?

You can look up all sorts of things about what introducing more hormones can do to your body, it isn't something Dr.'s tell you because in their world you fix everything by taking something for it. I was on the pill, different types several times, consecutively for almost ten years, my situation isn't that unique, a lot of women have the symptoms but they attribute it to various other bodily malidies. I did, I even went to see a dermatologist who prescribed me daily antibiotics for acne, which worsened everything.

Overall, I am happy with the Pill....I was lucky, I believe many women have trouble with the extra hormones.
Back in the 60's and 70's the Pills were so high in hormones I read that some women got cancer from them... ("Second Life" by Stephani Cook is about battling cancer from the Pill)
I only took one Pill that hurt me so much I stopped after 2 weeks (Empresse- gave me leg cramps, headaches and nightmares.)
I would recommend low-level Pills to all women. Spotting does occur but that's a tiny side effect compared to the many listed above.

Ive taken ortha tri cyclen both the regular and the lo-. Loved what it did for my skin etc. however, I wanted to skip periods.

I used the patch for this at first. Instead of leaving one off for a week, I simply slapped another on. But with dancing, I can't easily hide the patch. I had very lil' trouble with the patch. I think once I had break through bleeding and that's about it. no skin probs etc. Patch never came off.

Now im on Mircette, so I can skip the periods still and not have to deal with a patch. So far so good. I had no side effects ( i'm on my third pack right now. ) only had 5 days of break through bleeding and it was right around the 2nd period that I skipped . So, honestly I think I had a period just a very very light one.

I truly truly believe the depo shot is far worse then ANY pill. Not only did I get pregnant on the shot, but so did my sister. Same month as well. Im wondering if there was a bad batch out , we went to different doctors.

Other people that took the shot , gained so much weight... hair fell out ...bleed either straight through or didnt bleed at all. I'd say almost everyone I know maintains it screwed up their cycle long after they quit using the shot .

Many many years ago I did the noraplant. the 5 tubes inserted into your arm. Anyone else remember this shit? AWFUL!!!! the inserts roam freely after awhile, and it was a good intention of having birthcontrol inplace for 5 years. I will say that 5 years and 3 months later ( 3 months of being on the shot. ) I concieved my youngest son. So whether or not it really worked I have no idea.

^ Yeah, my best friend and cousin had bad experiences with the Depo shot. I would not recommend Depo to anyone.
I was too young to get Norplant when it came out...guess I was lucky, it's been off the market for a while now...

Immediately after discontinuing Norplant, a woman is very, very, very fertile. I suppose she becomes fertile enough to conceive even while on another method of BC!

I tried many differant pills and they never work for me my body could not take it! But each differant pill that I took had something differant about it , Like some pills have more estrogren in them than others! It's a whole lot of things that be differant about another pills. Because they are design to work with certain type of woman body. Certain pills that gives you hormones. Can cause you to be very horney or super moody. If the pill was causing your hormones to change, a sign of that will be your ance. That mean you where prouducing to much hormones. The new pill he gives you might not gives you enought hormones and cause your body to to go threw a change. When you are swicthing pills that mean your body will be ajusting to that new level( thats what ever level the birthcontrol puts you on(hormones) so you will not know how your body will react until you are on that pill for about three months. because sometimes your hormones are unstable after switching pills. A good thing to do before having to switch to another pill is to ask for an hormone test to see what pill will be good for you to take. Do the adjustment on your body from the switch will not be harsh. All the pill have a differant affect on differant people. That is why they have so many!

This is an unfair statement, IMO. *Decent* doctors--that is to say *most* doctors--will level with you on the side effects of hormonal contraceptives. Furthermore, fertility is far from a "problem" that needs to be "fixed" and docs have no motivation to "treat" it.

Don't forget, when in doubt, there are those wordy inserts in the packaging that enumerate the risks of the drug being dispensed.

There is no conspiracy on the part of physicians around the globe to lure unwitting women into taking and staying on the pill.

With respect to digestive tract troubles resultant to oral contraceptives, have you looked into NuvaRing?

Really, all I am doing is warning people about being on BC for too long. It wasn't originally created to prevent pregnancy long term. It was more invented for women to prevent pregnancy between children. Have you ever seen people who used steroids for several years? The reaction your body has is very similar when you take BC for a long time. Peoples bodies weren't meant to manufacture/ use/ digest synthetic hormones.

As for my comment about Dr's not telling you the effects, I wasn't saying they are negligent, they expect you to read the packaging. They just don't tell you some of the long term health effects of taking most prescriptions; usually because they don't really know unless they've had 1st hand experience. They are just like everyone else ~ just doing there job until something strikes them and they become passionate enough about it to find more answers than what their clinic provides them.

It's important to know the long term effects of the pill because it can and does change your hormones negatively, yes, it also has positve changes for people, it did for me for about 5 years. Then all the hormones and antibiotics I took changed how my body was accepting it. My personal experience as well as the HUGE number of women that I see [silently - because they don't know whats wrong with them] going thru the same thing in the last few years is why I warn people about it.

i've been on the pill for a little over 4 years now and i've gone through so many different kinds. I was put on Nordette to help my endometriosis, then Ortho Tri-Cyclean, then Ortho Tri-cyclean lo,then back to Nordette. but i was having MAJOR mood swings. i could be happy and then the next minute either be angry or crying. started to freak me out so they switched me to Aleese...never heard of it before but it's been making me break out and get uti's like crazy. not to mention that the periods are awful, one lasted a week and a 1/2! which isn't normal for me @ all

::sigh:: i think i'm gonna go to the patch.

I went through a few pills before I found the right one. They all react differently with different people. The first few I tried made me really crazy, with harsh mood swings. I'm on ortho-lo, now, and it's really awesome. It cleared up my skin, lightened my periods, and I rarely get any cramps. But I get weird food cravings the week before my period, now.

The alternatives seem to react differently to the individual, too. I know a girl who was on depo and couldn't lose weight no matter what she did right. My other friend was fine on it.

I can totally relate to not wanted to switch once you have the right one. I thought about switching to seasonale but didn't because I heard the horror stories of those it didn't work for. I figured my pill now doesn't change me, so I didn't want to ruin it over possibly having less periods.

I kind of have to disagree. The pill's been around in widespread use since the 60s, and they've had plenty of time to study the longterm. I read in many magazines that long term use also decreases the risk of ovarian cancer because there isn't a cell popping it every month.

I do agree that doctors "practice" medicine. I still see a lot of them as these evil caracatures that can inflict harm. I've had a lot of bad doctors, lol. I think you need to use your own reasoning and not take all they say as absolute.
