    Default Tis the FLU Season

Well, it's FLU season, and of course people are rushing out to get flu shots. I don't have anything reeeally interesting to talk about...so WTF?

My own stance: I don't get flu shots...because I don't typically get the flu, I still get paid if I am ill....and there's too much controversy right now about the extend that flu shots protect you.

What I do....after I pee (you know...shake the one eyed weasel...wee-wee.... whiz...whatever) I wash my hands (you wouldn't believe how many "PROFESSIONALS" don't bother...ICK)...and then I dry my hands on the way out and grab the door handle with the paper towel. Sometimes during the day I'll use anti-bacterial cleanser. I'm not OCD about it....I'm just not stupid.

This information below, however, comes from an article on MSN...and I think that most of it is very wise...some of it obvious. But...do I say ANYTHING without my monkey humor? NO...pleeease make sure to take note of the last comment. I even put it in bold and italics. YES...this came FROM MSN.....

Prevention is better than cure but if you feel a cold coming on, I recommend Airborne. I've tried it and I love it.

Most men don't wash their hands. I'm glad you do. I never knew people licked keyboards. I must be out of the loop.

The only time I got a flu shot (in college, lived in dorm), I still got the damn flu. If you feel sickness coming on, take megadoses of vitamin C, echinacea, and a shot of wheatgrass. Yes, I am aware that they cannot stop the virus, but they do significantly help the body try to fight the contagin before it destroys your immune system.

Spend time outdoors, get some sunlight, wash hands, use GermX, but don't be too afraid. Germs around around us, and if you're going to get sick, its just going to happen.

AND, if you are smoker, you will stay sick longer than non-smokers. I smoke, this really sucks, I will quit for at least a week while sick but then start up again.

just so everyone knows, taking more than 200mg a day of vitamin C doesnt do shit.... your body only absorbs what it needs, which is usually about 100-140mg... we were told that taking that much vitamin C is a waste of money, and gives you expensive urine

Well, tons of vitamin C is GREAT for keeping you awake. It works better than caffeine and you don't crash from it like you do caffeine. Doesn't make you jittery either, just awake and alert. One 1000mg vitamin C capsule will keep me awake all night long even if I didn't sleep that day.

I take heaps more vitamin C than that, probably about 10 grammes daily currently (which is about 2-3 heaped teaspoons of powder.) I also have introvenus vitamin C drips fairly regularly of 30 grammes a session from my Doctor. Your bodies will utilise ALOT of vitamin C before you start pissing it out! In some studies people have taken hundreds of grammes of vitamin C daily and still not had traces of it in their urine. It can vairy day to day and from person to person also because everyones situation is different and some days your body will use more than others. It's pretty safe to say though that 5 grammes daily can be used up pretty easilly by the human body.

Just found this on another site if anyones interested...

WHY I DON'T GET THE FLU SHOT

"According to Hugh Fudenberg, MD...world's leading immunogeneticist...if
an individual has had five consecutive flu shots between 1970 and

^ Points well taken, aussie. However, I live next to one of America's biggest poultry farms, so I had their Shanghai special flu shot. If those chickens start going down, I'm not going with them!
Feel a little woozy but I'll live.

I love Shanghai and all, but it takes a dilligent mental effort to ignore the culture shock of certain sanitary conditions. Now you add onto that "special" and I doubt a native would touch it.

Not to intentionally turn your stomach, but I saw a sign posted above a urinal in a public restroom that said in English "No Shitting". The ammonia smell was so intense that I could not stay long enough to photograph this conversation piece. Most odd was the fact that a bathroom attendant was present.

I love China. Dont get me wrong. We certainly have our quirks too.

^ That's pretty funny because most American poultry farms are cursed with an ammonia reek smellable from miles away. The middle of CA is the butt of jokes because we stop noticing the smell of manure....
OH well. I'm hoping the bird flu scare will help usher in better living conditions for farm animals.

excess vitamin C is also associated with a higher risk of kidney stones because your kidneys work overtime to get rid of it all

Vit C has many different effects on everyone. Too much too fast isn't very good for your body, if you do start taking a lot, wein your body off it slowly.
The flu season has hit here and what I do is take 3 echnacia & 3 Vit C (500 mg) in the morning and again after I have dinner. I find that it boosts my immune system and also if I do get a cold it usually goes away in about 3 days vs. a week or two.

I don't get the shot...don't see any reason to, really.
When I get enough sleep, make it to the gym diligently, eat healthy, and drink lots of water...it's amazing how inpenetrable your system can become!

GOOD TO SEE YOU BACK, MOJO!
