Default Safety while travelling for work

I'm new to dancing and am currently working at a club close to home. I would like to eventually try working in another part of the country as the money is better (20$ dances versus 10$ dances here).

What scares me most about travelling for work is being in a city unknown to me and feeling somewhat "trapped". Here if anything goes wrong, I know just how to take care of myself and get myself home safely. I'm used to working in the city where you can leave the club and there are other businesses open nearby as well as people walking by.

I guess my question is, how do you ensure your safety when travelling for work?

Do you travel with an agency? How does one screen the reputable ones?
I see many ads recruiting in my area offering free lodging and ammenities. Are these legit? Decent?

Is it better to go about it independently contacting the clubs directly and setting up your own accomodations?

What do you plan for a "worse case scenario" situation?

Before I attempt any travel work, I intend to research well and make sure I do it safely and comfortably for me. In any case I figure that these are good things regardless of the situation, please add on anything else!

    - Researching the area I would work in, having notes of important ressources (emergency, taxi and other travel methods, accomodations, etc)
    - Having enough money with me from the start to get myself home in a hurry if need be.
    - Try to make a friendly contact in the area to call for help if needed.

Any advice on this subject matter is greatly appreciated

P.S. I don't have a car or drive if that has any bearing on the issue.

I always research the area I am going to be in and I keep a little pocket address book with me so I can reference it if I need to find something. Usually all it takes is one time going somewhere and I get the feel for where I am. I don't book thru anyone, I call myself. I don't really befriend anyone from the club until after my second trip, I do try to go to a bar or two and that ends up being where I meet a few people that I get to know for my next trip back. I try to organize my trip there around something fun that is going on in the city I am going to.
So are you saying you'd be like flying in somewhere and taking a cab to a club? I guess I have never been in that situation because I have always had a car, so maybe your best bet would be to try to find a place to go that you know people.

Yes, I figure I would be travelling to wherever either by train or plane and taxis. Since I expect my first work travel destinations to be in Ontario, travel costs shouldn't be excessive.

So are all agents no good or are there are few decent ones? Not that I want to go that route but I just want to know what the options are so I can decide what's best for my situation. The appeal of free travel and lodging expenses is hard to ignore but I wouldn't go for that if there are unreasonable expectations or conditions.

Do all strippers that travel for work go by car??? There must be some that use other methods?

    Thanks

I was just in Ontario working, not my home province.
I had checked a couple clubs out on my last visit so I was aware of where I wanted to work.

From what I have seen there is not much need for managers around Ontario, most of the clubs around toronto allow freelancers, so its just a matter of walking in talking to the dj paying a floor fee and away you go...sink or swim lol

because I flew in, I didnt have a car so it was public transit to work and taxi to my accomodations....(im too cheap to spend on a taxi each way lol)

As far as I know the clubs in the TO area are 20 canadian a song, but you have to be aware that some places need licences before they will hire you and most need two pieces of valid photo id before you have a chance of getting on the floor...I assume this is to prevent problems with underage or illegal immigrants.
Also be aware that contact in many clubs can be pretty high...but Im not aware of Montreals rules so I dont know what you are used to.

One thing to remember is that its still Canada, you arent going overseas or somewhere where you will hit cultural or language problems, most things will be very similar to where you are living now, the biggest problem I find is that it can be a bit lonely at times when you're not at work.

    Best of luck
    Nicole

Also, by working Canadian clubs you probably don't have to worry about any 'nightmare scenario' in regard to being bogusly busted.

I would never travel with an agency. They may be safe, but they also might be horrid. I have heard some horror stories about these agencies holding your passports and not allowing you to go home when you wanted to.

Just go by yourself, with enough money to get back home should you want to leave at any point and enough money for your hotel rooms and all that.

I moved out to Vegas in a bizzare way. I was in college full time before I moved out here, so I didn't have much money saved... I danced one day a week just to pay my bills, minimum...

I took the last thousand dollars I had in my checking account and spent in on a week long trip to Vegas. Lol, thank God it worked out but if it wouldn't have, I would have been royally fucked. So make sure you have enough money to get back home and take care of your bills should you for whatever reason not make much money.

    Good luck!
