I know it sounds gross, but I tried using a CLEAN NEW tube of Preparation H cream as eye cream..but it tingled in a bad way and caused redness so I took it off.
I heard a bunch of times that it works better than most expensive eye creams & I was trying to be thrifty.
Seriously, what's the deal? Does the ointment work better? At this point, I don't even want to bother finding out.

I tried this the other day also. Did the same thing. Turned the skin underneath my eyes so red and & tingled a bit. Wiped it off quickly, so I don't know if it would've worked or not.

I know!!! I was going to start a thread asking for good eye creams, but I don't want to pay $40+ a jar...can't afford that...Right now I use an eye cream with Dead Sea Salts in it...which doesn't burn quite as much...LOL

Ok, try using the prep h. gel instead of the cream. it does not burn or tingle, and it reduces puffiness like a charm (i always use it after a long night of studying or crying - helps a LOT)

OK, this is freaky. Last week I was in Rite Aid and was looking at Preparation-H and almost bought some for the same reason. I have wanted to try it for years and have been chicken shit because I know I have really sensitive skin. I kept thinking, my luck I'll put it on and my eyes will freak out. I have heard from others that swear by it. But after hearing this...I'm not trying it. I found several links about it last week. They say the cream is better than the gel. I've also heard it can rupture capillaries in delicate under eye skin. If you have a problem with dark circles use a cream with vitamin K. There are ways to reduce puffiness.....I don't think Preparation-H is it for most people.

Preparation-H - can it be used as a remedy for wrinkles?

Preparation-H is the main ingredient found in hemorrhoid cream, of all things!

Amazingly many people swear by this stuff to treat face, eye wrinkles and happily apply the cream as part of their daily skin care routine.

So does Preparation-H really help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles?

For many years, yes it did thanks to the live yeast cells that used to go into the preparation. The cells, referred to by many as LYCD (live yeast cell derivative) are known to assist in the healing process and because of this are also used to treat burns, chapping and dry skin on general.

Unfortunately, the properties of Preparation-H have recently been adjusted in the USA in line with The Food and Drug Administration's regulations. The reformulation of its ingredients means that the preparation no longer contains the 'magical' LYCD and instead uses an approved astringent formula.

This means that any over the counter Preparation-H that you buy state side is unlikely to help you combat fine lines and wrinkles. In fact many people argue that it no longer helps hemorrhoid sufferers either!

Q: I am 34 and starting to notice bags under my eyes. I've heard that Preparation H works to help reduce them. Is this true and can it be used safely?

A: Preparation H under my eyes? I don't think I would trust the skin on my face to anything like that! There are some very good products on the market specifically for the "puffy eyes problem". Remember, if hereditary is to blame (as it is for some of us) you will only be able to minimize, but not completely reverse, the problem. Some good products are Beauty Without Cruelty Green Tea Nourishing Eye Gel, Origins No Puffery, Caudalie Grape Seed Eye Contour Cream (at Sephora.com) and Cellex-C Advanced C Eye Toning Gel (also at Sephora.com) (be careful with this one if your skin is sensitive). Remember to drink 8-10 glasses of water each day, as eye puffs can be exacerbated by dehydration. Also, be care not to stretch the delicate skin around your eyes while cleansing, inserting contacts, applying makeup (use your ring finger because it's the weakest finger), and don't rub your eyes.

No using that as an alt is not a smart thing to do. Prep H has a drying effect, that is how it takes the puffiness away. That is not for daily usage! You eye area is a very delicate, thin piece of skin.

The formula sold in Canada still has the active ingredient that works, according to a makeup artist I know. So maybe some of the Canadian chicks here can hook us up with some contraband ass cream.

I have found that the ORIGINAL preparation H does work at reducing undereye puffiness and circles. But the New Improved preparation H does not work. When I tried the New Improved preparation H all it did was get the skin under my eyes real red and it itched and burned. God, I felt like an asshole! LOL.. But seriously, the ORIGINAL preparation H does work. I haven't used it in a while so I don't know if they're even making it anymore. Canada drug laws seem so much more sensible than ours, so I wouldn't doubt that you still can get the original Preparation H there.

Yeah, the original kind does work...
Pop a teaspoon in the freezer to reduce puffies, that's what I always do!

A Russian model I worked with while I was a makeup artist swore by cold potato slices. She would always keep a potato in her fridge for that reason. some of the other models tried it and also told me it worked well... give it a shot and tell me what you think.

Potatoe works, I do that when I dont get enough sleep. Also, if you rub a little of the potatoe over your eyes if you are in a hurry it wont help a lot but a liittle.

Also, being dehydrated can actually exacerbat puffy eyes. Weird, but true.

Causes: lack of sleep, a diet high in salt, drinking excess alcohol, or an improper contact lens fit.
Spicy foods can trigger this in some people. Thank god that's not me...

If you've been drinking, drink several glasses of water before bed and throughout the evening.

I use chilled cucumber slices, myself. Adrien Arpel used to have a great tube of eye stuff for puffiness, I don't know if it's still on the market. But, it seems many of the new eye creams out have 'no puff' ingredients.

Prep H has always been models' secret for puffy eyes.I've been using that stuff many times before,it helped somewhat. Some of my friends decided to get rid of the eye bags through surgery, blepharoplasty - removal of fat deposits/hernias from over and under the eyes. They all looked great, but this is not for everybody, and works best for someone older.

They say this does work but its not for everyday use. Its something the models do for there eyes to look good that day for a photo shoot . Iam currently using a knockoff of that really expensive stuff hyflexin or whatever its called I hope it works.

Prep H works, used sparingly, for a quick fix, but (just like Hydrocortizone) exacerbates the problem if used regularly. If you use it, DO NOT RELY ON IT!! Used too often it will make your skin worse!!

Another tip that i got from another model was to use cold tea bags (not herbal, but regular tea). NOT decaf. Tea is astringent, and also caffeine is diuretic. It's supposed to do double duty.

She said to make tea, dump the water, and take the tea bag and put it in the fridge overnight, or until cold. Apply to eyes for 10-15 minutes.
