Default OH MY GOODNESS - knocked. up.

So - just thought I should share with my stripper support group - I'm completely pregnant. I've been going through all of the threads on this site about pregnancy and it's nice to know how other dancers deal with it. I stopped dancing and that's been hard, I'm lucky that I had a good summer financially and saved a ton, which now is a life-saver as far as buying individual health insurance and to live off of. But I miss it still. I got a part-time, day job to keep me busy. And I plan on spending this time to really get serious about my long term career goals. But after the baby is born I still really want to dance again. At least for another year. Does anyone have any opinions about dancing after a baby? It seems like sort of the ideal job. Because I could have whatever hours I wanted - that way spending as much time as I wanted at home, but make good money. I could also help me focus on getting my body back. I'm really worried about that.
Oh and I'm 25 and in a longterm relationship - the pregnancy wasn't planned, but we are happy about it.

    Congrats on the baby news!

I think if you liked dancing then going back to it after the baby is a prefectly good idea. Drink lots of water and keep your mid section well mouisturized with a cocoa butter to minimize the stretching effects on your belly.

Wow, first of all, congratulations!!!! I wish I could be in your shoes but that won't be anytime soon.

There are many supplements you can take safely that will increase your skin elasticity- silica, amino acid supplements, oil pills.....Sometimes dumb luck is a factor too, I know a woman who only got stretch marks under her breasts...

Why don't you see if you have a knack for sewing & knitting while you're unable to dance? It's really hard to find good dancewear/ specialty clothing. You could stay in touch with the clubs by being a wardrobe lady before you can go back to dancing.

Keep us posted about your pregnancy. We're happy for you!

Congrats on your baby news. Baby weight will drop fast. but if you really want to avoid physical (not internal) damage to your stomach, if you decide to get a C-Section you can ask them when they close up your stomach to close it up with a tummy tuck. You will come out of the delivery room looking like you didnt have a baby. but all in all, do whats right for the baby and your body. it was just a suggestion I have heard of women doing that

I have a 7m/o daughter and will be goin back to work next week. Some advice for you - stay active during your pregnancy! I didn`t (at all) and have been paying for it trying to get back into shape. Like someone said, use cocoa butter lotion during your pregnancy, too - I did and have very few stretch marks now

Congrats on the baby! my best friend just had a baby about 6 months ago. and during her pregnancy she stayed very active and pretty much bathed in cocoa butter. But it payed off, minimal stretch marks and within a week or two she looked like she did before the baby.
    I wish ya luck!

Congratulations! Take everyone's advice, use cocoa butter. I have NO stretchmarks from either of mine. It does work!

And yes you should go back to dancing if that's what you want to do. Make sure you do some type of pregnancy workout to keep toned. There are quite a few DVD's for that on the market.

    How wonderful for you!!

Please don't do an elective C-section: the celebrities do it b/c they want to be vain (no strech marks or loose vagina) at the risk of their baby. We've had a thread about it here .

Just wanted to throw this in here.. C-Sections are not ALL bad. I've had TWO of them. Neither were elective, however. But.. KrazyJane.. I went back and read the thread that you linked to. C-Section babies are dopier, and have low APGARs? I think not. Both of my C-Section babies had HIGHER APGARs than my son, who was delivered vaginally. In fact, they had PERFECT scores. If you have proof of that claim, I'd LOVE to see it.

Sure, I would've loved to have both of my girls naturally.. But, Steffi was breach (in a butt-first presentation on APRIL FOOLS DAY no less, 24 days early), and Delia was an attempted VBAC. She did manage to break my water all on her own, but I had not one contraction after 12 hours waiting in a hospital bed. I wouldn't have elected a C-Section if I could've helped it with Delia. But considering that by morning, I had lost all my water and would have had a dry birth, and the fact that the doctor would not put me on pictocin because of the position of the previous incision, no other choice was available.

A LOT of women elect to have a repeat C-Section if they've had one already, on the doctor's advice. I was told that even though it was only a 1% chance, the uterus could rupture due to the previous C-Section, and that even if he was RIGHT there directly in front of me, he would not be able to save my child, or me. During my pregnancy, I had elected to do the C-Section, and then I changed my mind and decided to try a VBAC. When that didn't work out, I had the second C-Section even though I didn't want it.

Sorry about the thread-jack people, but shit like this sets me off. Plus, after spending the night into the wee hours of the morning trying to fight trolls, I have zero patience.

For all of you who have spoke out against C-Sections---Raise your hand if you've actually had one.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE SUPPORT. You all are awesome. I'm very excited about it. I'm trying to take care of myself, excersizing and all of that. I know you all are right about staying on top of that. I actually danced a few days before I knew - and I was loving my big boobs (just thought it was premenstrual boobage) but I was so freaking EXHAUSTED. I didn't know why. So I took a few days off - and then found out, and now I can't bring myself to go in because of the cigarette smoke, and also just feeling sort of guilty about it - absolutely nothing against girls that did work while pregnant. I have thought about it.

And Rhiannon, I've been trying to learn as much as I can about childbirth and labor and I'm actully going to shoot for a super natural birth but the more I've read the more I've learned that sometimes things just don't go how you plan them to. So I'd be okay with a c-section, if it led to a healthy baby. And I think it must not be easy for women that have gone through that, because some people assume you must have not tried hard enough or couldn't take the pain...etc. etc. But you sound damn brave - especially with your second.

MadMaxine - I love your wardrobe lady advice. I do know how to knit - but it's been all baby stuff.
I was planning on selling some of my gear at my club - but I'll think of making some stuff too...

No, I don't follow that radical Zionist theory that any medical intervention during childbirth is bad, and I don't deny the fact that C-sections are sometimes a necessity. At the same time, it pisses my off when I hear a quack doctor saying somthing like, "The human vagina is not meant to birth babies any more than the penis is. We make a cut, free the mother from any pain or danger, and fix her up even better than she was before." It's one thing to get a C-section to prevent your baby from stillbirth, it's another thing to be a vanity case. Also, a c-section is going to leave a pouch even with a tummy tuck. This is b/c the stomach muscles run vertically while the uterine muscles run horizontally, so a horizontal cut reduces risks of future problems. I know a woman who had vertical C-sections done. She had a flat tummy but a huge scar, and thus had higher risks of problems in the future b/c they cut her uterine muscles in a way that didn't go with the grain. Rhiannon is right about risks coming with VBACs. If you decide to have kids later, you'll have more potential risks later.

Anyway, good luck on bouncing back after baby. If you do get stretch marks, hydroquinone cream (over the counter or prescription from a dermatologist) can work wonders on the coloring, which reduces visibility. Tanning, faked or baked, also works wonders. I have a friend who did intense yoga and was able to wear a bikini a year after having a baby.
