Post To tan or not to tan

I was just wondering if I should start tanning. I know it can make you look thinner, but I am naturally very pale ( think goth girl, but with out the make up). I havent started dancing yet, but hopefully will by the end of the month. So I guess I'm jsut looking for some input from you girls...thanks

    sun damage is soooooooooooooo unsexy.

Have you thought of getting an airbrush tan? Honestly folks... if you tan inthe sun OR a tanning booth, you're headed for leathery skin/melanoma city. A dancer I knew a long time ago recently died from skin cancer. She was only 42 and a tanning booth addict. Let me tell you- skin cancer can be disfiguring. Why tan and risk death or deformity later in life?

Channel Nicole Kidman, girl. Pale is beautiful, too.

These days most of the actresses are white as snow. I used to tan but don't anymore because yes you will see a difference in your skin.

Being a pale gal myself, I can honestly tell you that tan skin doesn not make a difference in your money at all. You WILL, i repeat, WILL have the occasional jackass who says to you, "you should really lay out in the sun or go to the tanning bed. You're so white." Um, I know this shit-for-brains it's not like I'm blind! Then you have to explain that you don't easily tan and that it's not worth your health and blah blah blah. Just move on to the next dude who most likely will ADORE your fair skin. I can honestly say that of the things I have always hated about my body, the skin thing is the one I have hated the most and as I get older I meet more and more people who can really appriciate beautiful fair skin.

I wouldn't waste the time or money or health because you and I both know that you will most likely burn and peel. It's a vicious cycle!

If you want to tan do this... Tan your body once every two weeks & cover your face with a towel. And use a good face self tanner on your face.

And don't stay on the bed too long on your first day....you'll burn & you don't want that.

I feel sexier with a tan, and when I feel sexier, I make more money. But with that said, I can achieve those results with a self-tanner. It's kind of an ordeal, but so is putting on makeup and doing your hair. I just make it part of my routine.

If you really want to use a tanning bed, try self-tanners too. Don't make the UV light do all the work.

Seriously, having to work with a sunburned butt is no fun! SLOWLY, try five or ten minutes at first and use a good tanning lotion, it will save you skin.

I agree with this, except as a pale girl myself, tanners never look right on my face, so I go with bronzers

Eh, if she's goth pale, then she would be better off starting with UNDER 5 minutes...and maybe no more than 2 minutes...especially in the Super-Duper Quick Deep Tan tanning beds they have out now.

I am naturally tan, and I tan really quick. However, I don't do tanning beds anymore and if I feel like I want to be darker...I do the self-tanner as well.

Em...have you tried the self-tanner for the face? It's a little lighter and looks more natural than using the regular "body" self-tanner.

What's the difference between self tanner and bronzer? I never used a bronzer, just self tanner. Someone told me that you have to have a tan base first to use either one, but i don't want to tan my face at all. Been tanning for years. And lucky enough, I don't have any sun damage on my face. Don't wanna start getting any.

Try the Estee Lauder Face Tanning mousse. It's really light and doesn't streak. It doesn't seem to clog my pores either. For the rest of my body, I use Neutrogena tanning mousse. The mousse's just don't seem to streak like the lotions.

Just make sure you wash your hands well after applying. I wound up with orange palms once because I didn't scrub enough!

yeah, and it still never looks right!! I always appear too orangey unless the tanner has a bronzer in it...so I decided to cut out the tanner part and jsut use the bronzer part. Bronzers do the trick so wel...it's usually the only thing I have on during the daytime.

And Vyanka, the difference is a tanner stains the epidermis and a bronzer is just makeup, usually a powder.

Oh ok, thx Em. Because i've used face self tanners that says that has bronzer in it, and that confused me a bit. It can be in it, or just powder/makeup alone. Got it now.

As a man, I think pale is sexy. If a tan, leaving the naughty bits startling white is hot. I find the all round nudist tan a bit boring and a wee bit of turn off. Personal opinion.

Honey, i'm with ya on the gothicly pale thing (redheads in the family)
Anyways, i've TRIED to tan...and no matter what you won't get "a tan", and not only that...the girls that do tan will still look totally dark in comparison to you.
It's horrible for your skin...moreso when you're pale than if you're naturally able to tan in the sunlight...you probably won't notice it <damage> now...but down the road you will.

i would say that most men, not all, like a girl with some kind of color.. not necassarily a deep dark, just got back from the caribean tan, but a natural color... I don't think being pale is a bad thing either though. i know plenty of beautiful girls who have very pale porceline skin.. If you decide to tan, just gradually upgrade.. i would def try the mystic tan... its wonderful.... you will till maintain your pale look, but with a little glow...

Ehh, mystic tan always oranges me out. I am Scarlett Johansson pale too, but even more so since I'm not keeping up with my iron pills these days (when my lips go clear, I know I'm anemic again!), sooo it doesn't matter at the club I'm at now, but the big super competition place I want to work at told me "we'll hire you, but you need some tanning". Even Jergen's gets splotchy on me...what is the safest way to get a light tan from the bed? I tan outside in the summer (and I'm not a burner, strangely enough...just pale, without being fair, if that can possibly make sense...like I have the potential to tan)...is it better to go longer in the lightest bed, or a few minutes in the fryer?

I worked at a tanning salon for about a year so I can most likely answer all your questions! Woo hoo! Finally I can help on here! I warn you though, its kinda long

    MYSTIC TAN!
Ok here goes my experience on this thiiing. Lol. If you go in the mystic tanner straight off the street and get sprayed, you will come out a little darker (because of the bronzers in the spray) you have to wait 4-6 hours (at least 4 but preferred 6), and then you will start seeing it fully done in like 8 hours. HOWEVER!! Once you shower the mojority of that $30 tan will go down the drain!! The reason for this is because your pores are closed when you get sprayed and there is really no place for the spray to go other than just the surface. If you want to get the most bang for your buck, go tanning before you get sprayed. At least for about 5 minutes because it will open your pores and allow the solution in and therefor...stay longer Oh yeah, and don't forget to exfoliate before you go! OH! And something they DO NOT TELL YOU!! When you are wiping down? Don't forget about things like your booty crack lol. In a profession where nakedness is key.. you don't want dark browk streaks where they should be lol.

    Tanning in general!
If you are gothic pale its best to start off in the lowest bed they have. The higher up beds are just that, higher up! You can go for 10 minutes in one of them and it be like 20-30 in the low ones! So for the gothic pale people I would say lowest bed starting at 3-5 minutes, and make sure you ask when the bed's bulbs were changed. Ask to be put in one that is not "hot". You'll thank me lol. After you go once, wait until alllll the redness is gone, wait a day AFTER that, then go back for the same amount of time. Stay on the time until you notice that you aren't getting red. Slightly pink, and I mean SLIGHTLY for pale is normal. Then upgrade a minute or two.

    Red Hair!
You will not get that bronzed complection. You can however get a little darker, same as above, but just be careful! Wear SPF of some degree on your face! A little protection goes a long way!

Hope I helped a little, any questions just let me know. I know a lot about different lotions and bronzers and all that too.. so I could help there.. If you are pale... do not get suckered into getting lotion lol, unless there is spf! AND ALWAYS WEAR EYEWEAR!!!!!! You wouldn't believe the sick things that can happen if you dont!

As for me... I tan and tan easily I can't tell you how many times a customer has said "wow I love your bronzed skin" but...5 minutes later he is telling another girl how beauitful her pale skin is lol. I think its just because they are trying to sweeten us up lol.

i feel better if i have a tan but i dont have enough free time during the day 2 go to the sun beds so i use rub in cream stuff..

i guess you could try to see if ya like it or not on you .. i personally think that a nice suttle tan looks good.. makes ya look a bit skinner and healthy

I tan because I feel like I look better with a tan, and more confidence=more money. I cover my face with a towel too, and I just use a darker powder/bronzer so I don't have a really white face and a tan body. I've tried a couple self-tanners but the ones I tried didn't look natural-they looked too orangey. It's more convenient for me to lay in the tanning beds too. Not very many girls at my club are tan, so it helps me stand out.

I use Jergens Natural Glow (one of the better self-tanners, and cheap) usually 3x/week in order to be just tanned enough to make my cellulite less obvious. I avoid putting it on my face because this seems to make my face look fat.
