    Crohns Disease-advice for bloated tummies!

I am a long time sufferer of Crohns Disease (similar to IBS - irritable bowel syndrome) - I don't know if any of you other girls are sufferers but one of the things that I really hate is the way my stomach bloats throughout the day - by the time I come to start stripping at night time my waist line can have increased by up to two inches! (not good for my confidence and makes my body look all out of proportion) I am on medication but just wondering if anyone has any other ideas on how to stop the tummy bloat!

The very little I know has to do with salt. I think it retaines fluid or something. Also food that causes gas may also cause stomach bloat. But I don't know anything about Crohns desease, this might be something you should ask a doctor about. Good luck! Also, I understand how it must really suck for your self confidence, but it may actually not be that noticable in the club.

I have IBS and GASX is my best friend during the times when I bloat. I take a little more than recommended though, although I wouldn't recommend YOU do that.

    One other thing, Bianca:

Exercise, specifically stretch and do some ab work. That seems to help ...erm..get things going.

well, are you following the proper crohn's diet? maybe up the water intake? crohns isnt my specialty, but i know seeded items arent a good idea, but im sure you know that..

I have IBS, and for the last four months it's been hellish IBS (I've lost twelve pounds, which is nice, but only because of chronic gut rot). I know EXACTLY what you mean about the bloat...what I've been doing that helps (but warning! you'll be a little hungry...) I don't eat basically anything three hours before my shift and nothing during my shift (shifts 5-7 hours, so yeah, I sometimes get rumbly tummy, but I eat my dinner when I get home). WARNING- this is hell on your metabolism, but it does a lot to reduce bloat, and it keeps me from having to worry about the less glamorous ibs symptoms when I'm, you know, naked or in a white thong...on a stranger's lap...

My metabolism is slow right now, in spite of my excercise (which is in itself a super bloat reducer and good tummy soother...any kind of excercise really helps, but yoga is especially helpful in my experience), because I just don't eat much anymore. The good thing about this is that i don't get very hungry anymore, but I guess I'm losing less weight, and if I ever feel better it will be put back on real fast!!! But again, the bloat is less of an issue, as well as all the other crap...

Easier remedies (if you're symptoms are more under control than mine...) are peppermint tea (gross at first, but definitely an aquired taste that I now crave- I swear!) and this indian stuff called 'fennel' that you can make tea out of...all very soothing and very good at reducing bloat. Things to avoid that will increase the bloat: ice cold beverages (including water), carbonated beverages, alcohol, caffeine, and any high fat or dairy foods...and nothing with insoluble fibre! (ie- whole wheat products, excess veggies, legumes, etc)

Yeah, so none of that is easy and possibly borderline unhealthy, but it's been working for me when I need to work and not have a puffer-fish gut> good luck to you! I feel your paiN!!!

my boyfreind has chrohn disease and has found that if he does not eat anything on four legs (chicken and other fowl don't count) he doesn't bloat as nearly as much as he would have. what meds are you taking for chrohns? my guy is on pregnezone and it causes some bloating on him. are you even getting treatment?

I apologise for my writing being jumbled around, but here is what I know:
A diet that is good for autoimune disorders could be benificial to you.
Try eating coconut. I can't think of what the coconut cookies are called, but they are supposed to help. Protene shakes are also supposed to help.
This disease can be caused by a hormone imbalance also(thats what a dr told me, I do not know if it is true), so check your birth control, and ask yourself what female changes you've noticed.
Tomatoes and tomatoe products(no ketchup, or speghetti sauce, or even a slice on a burger) need to be nixed, along with sweet potatoes. Gluton can also cause this problem. Limit soy products, as that can mess with your hormones also. Streight milk and creme is a nono, so even though I say no soy, find a nondairy creamer for your coffee. Cheese is a plus, as is yogurt and honey.
Chamomile tea, St. Johns wart, and Eleuthro( a vitamin tablet that supports immune system and gives a caffene like energy with out jitters and funky head) can also help.
While fasting might be tempting(my aunt has this, and made that mistake) it can make the bloating worse,a s part of that bloating is the body trying to hold onto nutrients that are needed for life sustanance, if you give your body extra supplimentation, it wont feel a need to hold onto as much(Its like loosing weight, but its for a liquid stored in by liver). Watch for your skin tone, and if you notice a yellowing in it, or in your eyes, go to your Dr pronto.

Try a new diet for one mounth(thats how long it takes for hormones to restructure), and see if it helps.

My friend has this and she swears by eating lots of vegetables and only deep sea fish and no starches, dairy or processed food. She said this diet - though very restrictive has been the only thing that has helped.
