I'm missing Thanksgiving this year because it costs too much to go home. <sob>
Thanksgiving is my FAVORITE holiday. I'm missing the family Xmas too but that's fine with me - it's missing Thanksgiving that is breaking my heart. I'm going to be stuck out here in heLL.A. with no family and no Thanksgiving. We'll probably just spend the day in the bar like we did last Xmas. Bummer. I would drive the 2000 miles home each way if work would give me the time off, but it would cost a thousand dollars to fly and I just don't have the money.![]()
Yekhefah I know how you feel... i've missed the last two christmases with my family. I actually ended up working... in the last two years i've seen my family maybe a total of 4 weeks. Im hoping if all goes well I can go home this xmas... its looking like I might have to chose between the DancerWealth or xmas with my family![]()

I get to cook Thanksgiving dinner this year for my 5 brothers and sisters, their spouses and kids and even a few grandkids - about 50 people in all. I hope they'll all fit inside my house LOL !
Wow Melonie sounds like a nice full house... good luck!
I'll be on the road working...and missing the family get-together for our 3 new members..my newborn niece and nephews.
I'll be Thankful to God I'm still hot at my age so I can still make a living off of people stuffing money in my underwear...LOL!!!

Im working in a soup kitchen with my mom for the Salvation Army. We also do this on x-mas.

My parents recently moved down to Virginia, so I'll be taking the fam down there for Thanksgiving to see the new house and whatnot. My mother says it's about 3 hours, my father says 5....so I'll Mapquest it and find out the real deal. I think my mom said it was Front Royal, VA. I always starve myself for like 2 or 3 days beforehand just so I can eat my weight in all my favorite family foods. That should maybe be a spin-off thread....what is your family specialty food for the holidays? I know everyone has different ones.
waffles are just pancakes with little squares on them.
I have no idea what i'll be doing. Probably something involving poultry, though... I've never been too hip on holidays.
^Very very cool, Logan. That made me smile!Originally Posted by LOGANLAKEN
As for me.. For the last 5 years, we've always gone to the In-Laws' house, and either my Mother-In-Law has cooked, or she's purchased the Thanksgiving Feast from Shaw's or Stop & Shop when she didn't feel like cooking.. LOL.. Starting this year, however, since we're no longer in RI, I shall have to cook. I don't mind it, of course. But, The Husband has informed me that in addition to the Turkey, he wants Ham.
It'll be just the three of us, and maybe Hoface and his Girlfriend. He's had a rough month, so I'm hoping he'll come on over.

Well for us it's a bit diffenent, because we're russian, but I love this holiday and celebrate whenever I can. This year,I will be working through it,but on wednesday we'll cook a giant turkey with some friends.

My bf and I both have family that is scattered all over, so it's not possible to get people together in one spot. Usually we have a big dinner party with friends and everyone brings a dish. This year we've decided to have a nice dinner out, just the 2 of us. Going to pick a nice romantic restuarant in Manhattan. We love the holidays!

It'll be a whirlwind of family visits for Mox and I. We'll probably head over to my dad's family for an early lunch, my mom's family for a late lunch (), and to Mox's family for dinner. Bleh...let the eating begin!

A day before, I go out to the local turkey restaurant and order a couple of turkey dinners. Home in the frige. I won't go out if invited (even by a stripper), but I will ask someone in if available, then I will order more dinners. Then next day I make my own gravy and a few other delights, nuke the two dinners and eat them. I like the simple life and am very tired of people not making their committments.
Once a stripper ex-friend and I had dinner together (I bought and she cooked at her place). That was a nice but brief time. Then within a year she went back on the pipe again, after several years 'off' so she said.
I like the soup kitchen idea or helping out at the local old folks home.

I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.
Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

My family and I don't celebrate "Thanksgiving" for social and political reasons. We do use it as an excuse (as if we need another one!) to get together, stuff our faces, catch up on the year's events, argue politics, talk philosophy, etc...Originally Posted by LilSweetVixen
This year, we'll be in Austin (so if any of you Austinites see a large group of Black, Mexican, and Irish folks of various combinations, that's my fam!) and I'm really looking forward to it. One of my aunt's is hosting, but everyone is always tasked with bringing something. Yours truly will be bringing her *insert real name here*'s Famous Butter Vanilla Cookies, pineapple chicken, and special coffee blend.
Big Italian family dinner, then I am shipping off to work for the rest of the weekend

Making 8 dozen pies.

It's too far a drive to see my family so who knows what I'm doing. What I like about Thanksgiving when I do get to see my family is it's an excuse to pig out! And the one time a year besides Christmas I eat pie.
