Before I answer any questions, I would like to know what you plan to title this research paper. I feel that this will help me to ascertain whether or not you plan to skew the results towards the negative.

I emailed too. Robillen, you should post your paper when you're done with it; I'm sure we're all interested in the results. I really miss school but figured I should probably work once I was done with the Master's... damn, I should really get a PhD.

It's interesting that those two posted responses are both from military brats. Both my parents are in the air force...maybe all that moving around as a kid is conducive to...uhm, whatever it is that gives a girl the ability to strip. Chameleon-like abilities to adapt are always what I've thought military offspring were blessed with...and maybe an extra helping of independence?
    Here's me projecting. Sorry!

I think your questions are poorly put together.

you ask if stripping is our only source of income , but not if we are single or have children.
section 2 #5 . How many different places. Well do you mean clubs or cities or what?
section 2 #12 . Are you using the money you make stripping to support yourself or someone eles.
aside from the wording this is too vage. by support ourselves do you mean just pay bills and eat. or do you mean secure our future by paying for school or investing . and by support someone eles do you mean a partner. And what about kids. is that supporting someone eles ? What if your investing in your own future and taking care of your childern and their future?

I could go on but you get the point. I think you should take a littlt more time and rework the questions.

Its weird how some of the same Q's are asked more then once just in a different format. Plus you never asked how we got into stripping, if we're single or with kids. There are a lot of blanks... but if thats what you need meh you got my answers.

Mollyzmoon, I am a military brat as well. I wonder statistically if we are over represented in dancing? It would be an interesting topic for a research paper!

    5. Family background?
    - blue collar, 5 brothers & sisters
    6. Is stripping your main source of income or do you have another job?
    - now almost retired : was full time dancer/performer for the past 10 years : before that was a 'professional' in the medical field

    II. Section #2

    - 28
    2. How long have you been stripping?
    - over 10 years

    5. How many different places?
    - probably a thousand of different clubs, definitely in the hundreds
    6. How do you get your “routine” together and when or if you have time to practice your routine.
    - by watching 'successful' dancers in particular clubs (i.e. different clubs require different 'routines', or a stage performance that goes over well in Texas won't fly in Manhattan)
    7. Do you pick what you wear or does someone else decide that?
    - within club rules, I choose
    8. Do you get to decide how much clothing you take off and how much you leave on? Or are you required to take off all of your clothes?
    - individual club economics dictates the answer
    9. Are you required to give lap dances or can you simply be a stage dancer?

    10. How much money do you make on an average night?
    - anything from MINUS $100 to plus 4 figures

    - on and off significant other(s), and yes they have all seen me performing
    a. Is it hard to feel sexy at home after stripping all night?

    III. Section #3

    1. Why do you strip?
    - income potential + flexibility + being my own 'boss'
    2. Is it hard to get up in front of people and take off your clothes?
    - depends on appreciation factor of those people
    3. Do you use anything to help you strip, such as drugs or alcohol?

    4. If people ask you what you do for a living, do you tell them you are a stripper or do you tell them you do something else?
    - it depends who is asking and why
    5. Does your family know you strip?
    - yes
    a. If yes, when did you first tell them?
    - immediately after I started dancing
    b. Did they accept it right away?

    c. If no, why do they not know?
    - incorrect Hollywood Stereotype caused them to draw many WRONG impressions
    6. If you quit, what other job would you do for a living?
    - manage my investments (I'll never work a 'straight' job again if that's what you're asking)
    7. How do you deal with costumers who treat you badly?
    - depends on club situation : at one extreme take the customer abuse and then quit, at the other extreme put the customer in a hammer-lock and escort him straight out the club's front door wearing only 5" heels !
    8. Have there ever been any experiences with costumers that have made you want to quit?
    - yup, customer waving gun in the club for one, being nearly raped in a VIP room while bouncers do nothing for another !
    9. Do you ever do more than just strip, such as having sexual relations with costumers?
    - never !
    10. What are your bosses like?
    - if you're referring to clubowners, as in every other business some are intelligent and professional, others are dishonest lecherous sleazebags
    11. Would you encourage or support other people in your life such as daughters/sons or brothers/sisters to strip?
    - 10 years ago yes, today no. Over the past 10 years the risk vs reward ratio has increased drastically, and the show business vs sex business ratio has decreased drastically
    12. What are your plans for the future?
    - tend my garden, spoil my cat, enjoy life
    13. Is stripping in your future or is this just another job?
    - once a dancer, always a dancer (even if you retire from performing)
    14. What are the positive aspects of your job and what are the negative aspects?
    - positives are income potential, schedule flexibility and (in earlier years) artistic appreciation. Negatives are crude customers, dishonest 'business associates', and (lately) expectations of sex for money

    c. If no, why do they not know? N/A

    7. How do you deal with costumers who treat you badly? It's a rare day that I have a rude customer, but those who are rude, I simply walk away. If it ever got bad, I'd get one of the managers to put him or her out.

    8. Have there ever been any experiences with costumers that have made you want to quit? Once

    9. Do you ever do more than just strip, such as having sexual relations with costumers? Never. Make too much money in the club.

    10. What are your bosses like? They're much better than most managers. They respect those dancers who respect themselves, and try to encourage us when customers are being idiots. Like any boss, they can be idiots, but 95% of the time, they're cool.

    11. Would you encourage or support other people in your life such as daughters/sons or brothers/sisters to strip? No.

    12. What are your plans for the future? Finish my PhD and start my own practice.

    13. Is stripping in your future or is this just another job? Just a job, not a career.

    14. What are the positive aspects of your job and what are the negative aspects? Positive - $$$, free schedule, independence, dancer comraderie (sp), rich (and ready to spend) customers, the diversity of dancers and customers. Also, customers who understand its entertainment only. Negative - cheap customers, solicitations for "private dances", cops who don't have anything better to do than bother adults doing adult activities, the stigma I have to avoid being attached to me, being seen as "stripper" before being a "woman". Customers who try to leave their families or be our White Knights.

    15. Is there anything else you want to share with me about being an exotic dancer?
    • The strippers I've had the oppty to work with and get to know on SW are some of the most positive, driven, ambitious, intelligent, feminist women and men I've met. Yes, we have our moron dancers, but there are morons in every career.

    • Some of us are very spiritual (whether religious or atheist). I, myself, am a non-denominational Christian. We also support charities (you should look for the Hurricane Katrina thread here and see how many people donated), and perform charity work.

    • Yes, a huge chunk of us are really stripping to pay tuition It's not a myth! I know a couple of dentists, more than a few successful lawyers, and a marketing exec who stripped their ways through college. You never know!!

    • Most customers who spend tons aren't losers or lonely men, contrary to popular belief.

    • Very few dancers (I've known of maybe five in "real life" and on SW) have ever experienced any violence. This business is not for every one, but for those that can, it can be very profitable.

    • A guy has a much better chance getting a girl at a regular night-club or bar to go home with him for spending only $20 on a couple of drinks, than he does spending even $1000 on a stripper.

    • "Dancers" that do cross the line are normally not dancers, but prostitutes who dance. Big difference.

    • We are women first before we are strippers. Yes, we have feelings, and yes, sometimes they get hurt. We're not robots.

    Thank you!

Thank you to all of you who have replied to me! I have had a ton of respnoses. I have not read through all of the answers to the questions, as I have not had a whole lot of time to do so this week. Once I read through them I may contact you and ask you to elaborate on some things if you wouldn't mind. Again, thank you and I will be in contact soon!
