    Default Tanning issue

Ok...I haven't been tanning in like 5 years or so. I went back for the first time today. Most of my body got nothing, but I have stripes on my butt and back of my thighs....WTF???? What can I do to correct this?

Also, what should I be doing to help myself get a good tan by the beginning of January? (coming fully out of retirement then). Been so long.....I was always tan before, but retirement kept me out of the salon for a while.
    Thanks.

If you used a lotion with tingle or hot than its prolly from the lotion. If you dont spread it on super even it can do this. The best way to get rid of it is use the same lotion but take your time putting it on. Make sure you put it on evenly.

My other job is in a tanning salon so I'm the one to come to with your tanning questions! Well, my ideas are this:

    1) If they bed has bulbs spaced apart, it can give you streaks if you don't shift and flip. You might want to flip midway through your tanning session or even turn on each side for a while.

    2) Shoulders, back, and butt tend to press against the glass harder, restricting blood flow, and therefore leading to whiter areas. Again, the solution is to move around in the bed!

Another hint to getting better all over color is to use a bronzer! But basically, to get the best tan by January follow these rules:

    * Invest in a good accelerating lotion. Regular, bronzer, or whatever kind you choose will greatly improve the way you tan!
    * Tan every other day if you can until you reach your desired color. Once you reach the color you want, you only need to tan 2 or 3 times a week to maintain your color.
    * Make sure you increase your minutes slowly, so as not to burn.
    * Flip around in the bed to get an even tan!
    * Lastly, keep your skin moisturized at all times! Tanned skin is more dehydrated and so needs to be pampered with moisturizer every day in order to keep your skin and tan looking healthy and sexy and not leathery!
    Everything is BIGGER in TEX-ASS!!!!

the tanning salon I go to sells these one time use packets of tanning lotion. The first time I went tanning without the lotion, I had no color, not even red skin. The second time I tried their hemp lotion and I was nice and brown, worked really fast. Since you went on a tanning bed, its normal to get marks on your butt and theighs, I go into the standing tanning booths which give an excellent all alround tan. Next time try a tan lotion but dont use it on your backside

I just started tanning (first timer) and noticed that only a few parts of my body were getting tan. I've only gone 4 times so far but I asked the lady at the counter and she said that it'd even out after awhile. I'm not sure if she's just saying that so that I purchase more sessions or if it's the truth though. I need your expertise, tanning expert AZTX! It's mainly my belly that's getting tan for now. She also said that after about 10 sessions (going once every other day) I'd be at my tanning max and after that if I wanted to get tanner then to use a accelerator like a tingle. I'm just using a normal lotion right now since I started out goth white.

Sorry I wasn't much help here, I'm as clueless as you when it comes to this stuff.

My body was like that when I first started tanning, my belly was dark but the rest of me was not. It will even out, or at leastit did on me.
Pixie, if you are not using tingle or hot lotion i guess it must be what AZTX said. I have never had stripes except with these lotions. I flip around a lot too though. I cant hold still unless i am super tired. I lay onmy back, front and both sides so i am pretty even. Maybe you just need to flip around more.

The flipping is probably what it is. Wish we had standing beds here, but we don't. I tan at my gym....the beds are good, and they have a good reputation, but no standing beds. Right now im using California Tan Products.....like the smell and they aren't too terribly greasy. Woke up this morning with a bit more color than what I had last nite (my lotion has a bronzer in it too.....hee hee). Thanks y'all.

I worked in a tanning salon for about a year, so I could answer questions too. What she said was perfect, follow those instructions! Also, the best lotion I have ever used in my life is called Almost Famous, its got triple bronzers and lots of other cool stuff. Its by swedish beauty. Oh, and your tummy will get darker first. Wherever you have a lot of blood flow will actually, and since there is the most fluid/blood in the tummy area, thats where is goes first! It will eventually get better, have patience!

It's probably from weak bulbs. Some places only change the bed bulbs when they go bad. You want to find a place that changes the WHOLE bed at one time.

I had this happen to me. Your best bet is to let the tan completely fade and then start all over.

I also use the Almost Famous tanning lotion and its great!! I'm like the whitest white anyone could possibly be, so even with tanning I usually don't get as dark as I would like, but ever since I started using the Almost Famous lotion, I've been getting a lot darker a lot faster.

Or, just use a self-tanner. You won't prematurely age in the process of self-tannng.

Do you have the link to their website?

Even though I am half black, I am VERY uneven. My legs = white. Hell, after I started wearing sunscreen foundation = Very uneven and white in some place! Stomach = White, because of summer.

I'd only probably self tan in a bed once a week plus a self tanner it'd probably do the trick with me. But, not sure what lotion to use as I have never really needed one. I'd just look more even with a better tan I think. And, if I don't, thank god tans go away

I've noticed a lot of girl get little crescent-moons under their buttcheeks...I think it's from the skin folding when you lie down- the spots just under your bum are shielded from the light. Try 'lifting' your bum when you lie down so that there's not crease just under your butt. Or if you do stand up, bend over some.

my old tanning place used to call those 'smilies'.

i gave up solarium activity once i had to get a mole cut out of my back. so not hot. now i have to fuss around with those freakin fake things. yuk. it's better than being a patchwork of scars i suppose.

as a resident of the self-proclaimed 'home of skin cancer' (i.e. queensland, australia) pleeeease be careful with, if not avoid, solariums).

many operators never bother to tell the truth to the customers. our consumer commission here is cracking down on them for blatantly misrepresenting what sunbeds do.

yeah I am scared now to tan because of the risk of skin cancer...although I love how it looks! It literally takes off pounds and makes you look firmer.

I used to get those moons too and one time a few guys noticed them. It was embarrassing!

I use build a tan from coppertone. I am like ghostly white and I can't get tan in a tanning bed. I just get a bunch of freckles and moles. The coppertone stuff works really good, great color that you can control. It dosn't streak and you don't look too orange.

why not do mystic tanning? It's a lot better for you, professional, and I think could get you darker since it's a process of evenly spraying on self tanner.

    Good Morning Ladies,

Let me take a few minutes to introduce myself, My name is John and I own a Tanning Salon for the last 5 years.

I'm a Smart Tan certified salon owner and take a lot of pride in helping and educating customers on UV and getting a tan.

First I want to say I'm know genius but I do know a fair amount about indoor tanning. There are 6 salons in my small town and I can say 5 of them have no idea about the tanning business they just see $$$$ signs.

I personally love meeting new people and taking the time to talk to them about moderation in tanning, using the right lotions and after tanning care. I've kinda sat back the last month and read some of the posts of your site and felt it was time to step in and offer some advice.

So hopefully after this long post (sorry it's so long) just trying to be helpful.
some of you will have a better understanding of tanning, indoors or outdoors, using lotions, and taking care of your skin.

    So let's begin:

fancygirl : why not do mystic tanning? It's a lot better for you, professional, and I think could get you darker since it's a process of evenly spraying on self tanner.

my reply to this is two parts: you said it's a lot better for you based on what?
Are you replying that tanning is harmful? Let me assure you of 2 things about airbrush or mystic tanning, it can look great but there are going to be times were you look streaky, orange. (based on percentage of solution and how well you prepped your skin the night before. Also remember the most important thing getting a sunless product sprayed on is NO DEFENSE against a sunburn. Only and I repeat only a suntan is a natural defense against sunburn.

To answer the question about getting rid of the happy faces on the butt two things may help you. As someone mentioned before the butt cheeks tend to fold over in that area which allow little to no sun there. My recommendation is this.
While laying in a tanning bed open your legs a little while laying on your back and bend your knee's this opens up that area. Also apply a heavy bronzer in that area to cover up the happy faces.

Nautilus my old tanning place used to call those 'smilies'.

i gave up solarium activity once i had to get a mole cut out of my back. so not hot. now i have to fuss around with those freakin fake things. yuk. it's better than being a patchwork of scars i suppose.

note: if you are happy with what you're doing sun-wise, don't read this -- but if you want more info:

You are right to say there are salon owners that don't educate you as a customer about tanning. I don't know what salon owners blatantly said or mislead you, but I can insure you that everything I tell my customers is truth. I am the first to say DO IT IN MODERATION. don't sunburn that's damage to your skin. Use a lotion it helps with the tanning process and also nourishes the skin. to say avoid the sun is to be honest a dumb statement. Sorry don't take it wrong. But your statement is like saying water can cause drowning so stay out of the water. People need to understand both sides of the story. Allow yourself to learn there are benefits to the sun. So instead of getting into a long debate over he said she said I too will
    provide a link

This site gives you a full view of tanning and what some people don't want you to know.

Sorry this is long like I said I just want to help you all understand a little better
feel free to email me at [email protected] if you ever have any questions. I will be glad to help

    Thanks
    John (Tanning salon owner)
