Count me in as a HP nerd. I've read all the books, and now I'm going back through them and making notes on important facts to see if I can figure out where the story might go (and to have higly intellectual conversations with my best bud who tries to outread me at every turn). It's marketed as a children's book, but it's so much more than that...really.

I was one of the nerds standing outside a bookstore 3 hours before the pre-release party started. We stood in line for a total of...7 hours or so. We were the second group in line, though, and we rejoiced as we ran by the rest of the line with our book. I swear those people were almost drooling with greed.

As far as the movies go...I could take em or leave em. I don't think the past directors have really done the story justice. The first two were quite light hearted and fun, but they lacked a "connection" to the characters. Prisoner of Azkaban was darker and offered more character connections, but it lacked more important pieces of the story (that could leave non-book readers confused). Continual shots of the whomping willow are hardly a good replacement for including the marauder's story in PoA.

I am going to see the movie with Mox, though. It's going to be my (late) birthday present. Don't know when we'll be going, but we'll see it during opening weekend sometime.

HAHAHA, CK, I hope you're not serious I'm part of a family of HP nerds. The only reason why I didn't get tickets for the midnight show is b/c I have to work, so I'm treating my whole family to see it on Sunday. I went to the Midnight Magic parties at both Barnes and Noble stores in my town, plus got the book off of Amazon months in advance so it would be delivered the day it came out (which happened to be the day b4 my birthday). In my house, there are literally 4 copies of evey book. PLUS, a lot of the scenes were filmed in Scotland and when we went to Scotland to visit my older sister (she lives in Aberdeen), we insisted that we go to the other cities where the castle scenes were filmed. ::SIGH of SATISFACTION:: I love that book

P.S. I once dated a guy who looked just like Harry Potter... Coincidence? I think not

I've already got plans to go to a Harry Potter pre-party before I go and see the movie on Friday. I love HP, but not sure what happens at a Harry Potter party populated only by adults . . .

Checking in as a Harry Potter fan here too! I blame it all on my neice. She got me hooked on it with the first movie (She made me watch it with her). After watching it, I sat there and said "Hmm.. That wasn't bad at all!". So I went back and read the book, and then the next one, and the next one, etc.. I actually prefer the books to the movies, but I like the cast.. If that makes any sense at all.

We'll be waiting for the movie to hit DVD, like we always do. I hate theaters as it is, but with movies like this, I don't do well with the crowds.

J.K. Rowling is a true success story though.. I was watching a show once that had a bit about her. Before the books became such a big success, she was on welfare and food stamps. She'll never have to worry about that again, that's for sure.

I totally think Harry is a sociopath. Is that what you mean? I was in Guam when the 5th book came out - I talked on the phone about it to my roommate for 3 hours. Consecutively. The 6th book, in my opinion really altered the theme of the books - took it in a completely new direction.

ck ... i know of two other people that say Harry Potter is evil. One is my mother inlaw, and the other is her sister. Now let me give you a picture of them. The sister is a vegan ... a trict one, because it is wrong to put that stuff in your body, that means they dont eat j-ello. Why? you ask? Because J-ello has had rumors of having animal bi-products used in some of the flavoring. My niece and nephew, who live with the inlaws, are not aloud choclate, soda, any meat product, shorts that hit above the knee when bending over, shirts that are not pretty much turtle necks, sponge bob square pants, many christian shows, the news, staying the night at other peoples houses, including ours, wearing boots, a lot of different fabrics, paint the nails/tow nais, use hair styling products, makeup, anything Dysney, and trust me when I say the rediculous list of "evil" things goes on for miles. Harry Potter is on that list. I would rather say fuck in that house than mention Harry Potter. Oh yes and I forgot an important one, my mother in law wants to take them out of school and home school them because some of the stuff the teach in school is evil and the work of the Devil. Her sister is worse than she is but because of it, we are not around much so I dont know what all crazy stuff she does. I knw they dont listen to any music other than some christian, that includes country, the good old stuff, because it is evil.
I have seen Micky Mouse dressed up in a wizard outfit .. he must be evil ...
This stuff, magic, is IMAGINATION, it isnt real. Nobody is saying it is real, it is imagination, fake, thats it. A story. So if you think Harry Potter is evil because of magic, sorcery and wizardry, so is Dysney, toys R us and Care Bears. They are all based on magic.

Uh, jello is made from the collagen of animal bones.

I love Harry Potter too. My grnadma bought me the first book when it came out, and I've been hooked since. I didn't like the movies, but I really liked the last movie. It's good that they swirched directors. Now there's less of the hokey fluff.

I just watched my movie last night and it ROCKED!!! they did a very good job at following the story line although they left out a few important topics. It was REALLY long. Almost 3 hours. I can imaging how long it would have been had they included everything.

Went and saw it last night, too- I must say, Harry is MUCH more fun after some Blue Hawaiians and Pina Coladas! We had a good time, though. Best movie so far, hands down!

CK I think this is the only thing I haven't agreed with you on so far, lol.

It's a book, it's a story, it's not real. I'm betting you feel the same way about the Cronicles of Nadnia as well right? It's fantasy, no more, no less.

I love HP, we are going Sunday to see it on IMAX, so I hope paying twice as much will be better, lol!

I have all the books in hardcover, and eagerly awaiting the last one. As well as the other movies (that little Malfoy brat is getting CUTE!!!!)

CK is going to be telling us about intelligent design here next...

And all the girls like the bad boys like Malfoy. Now the guy who plays his father - he is actually one of my more fav actors (Jason Isaacs - was in The Patriot, etc.) Heck, the guy was even involved with Resident Evil! The thing about Harry Potter is, they have the best actors in those movies. I really like how they kept the cast british - Harry Potter is a literary treasure of Great Britian and it should remain so.

(Let's not forget Ralph Fiennes - Amon of Schindler's List - playing the bad guy Voldemort. He has a way of playing bad dudes like Isaacs does - though now and then playing a good guy such as in The Constant Gardner.)

I went out and saw it - I really really enjoyed it. Once the hub-bub dies down I will go see it again.

Unfortunately I was right in front of the handicap row and had to hear a drooling retard AAAAAHAHHHHHHH through the whole fucking movie. I was proud of myself being so tolerant the first hour, but after two hours of continous AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH I started getting a little irritated. I couldn't wait to get out of there after nearly three hours of a retard screaming in my ear.

But even for that the movie was worth staying for.

I really suspect kids are going to be reading Harry Potter 100 years from now. I read the Hardy Boys as a kid ... and can you believe the novels were first written in 1927?!?! That is at least 50 years.

I noticed Malfoy getting kinda cute in the last movie. But, the guy that plays his dad (as Deo pointed out.. Jason Isaacs), WOO, come to mama! My heart belongs to Voldemort though, at least who's playing the part. Ralph Fiennes.. Yum!

We won't be seeing the movie in theaters as I said before, I hate massive crowds, especially crowds of diehard HP fans. So, we're waiting for the DVD. Unfortunately though, the is April 4th of next year. It'll be worth the wait though.

Ok, i can't stand HP. To me it's like reading the velveteen rabbit, but i just don't see the "evil" that a lot more people than just CK see. It's bippity boppity boo type stuff (IMO). I can't see this actually leading anyone into the occult, or turning anyone into a card carrying satanist.

CK, what do you think about the Chronicles of Narnia, or the Lord of the Rings? Both were written by devout Christians (though they were different brands of christian, Tolkien a Catholic, and Lewis a... er, i don't remember).

Evil? It's a story. Like the wizardry of Gandalf, the exercise of the Force by Yoda, the healing touch of ET, the inability to kill the Friday the 13th guy.

The Harry Potter movies have been rich in imagination and visual impressiveness. It's easy to simply enjoy the world that they portray. I for one do not believe that there is a big Magic Academy that apparently resides in a parallel universe that is accessed by running into a pillar at a train station in London, or that there is actually an owl-driven postal system.

Just sit back and enjoy the show. If you're not enjoying it, watch something else. It's no more or less evil than any other made-up world in the cinema.

I have never read a Harry Potter book or seen a movie. I was going to see the movie last night because my boyfriend was taking his son and I figured why not, maybe I'll like it. Well, the damn movie was so crowded the only place to sit besides the front row was the seats that say "give up for handicapped patrons" and since the movie was about to start and we only saw a couple with a wheelchair who were already seated in another set of seats we thought we'd sit there. Well, this lady comes up and goes "Those are handicapped seats," so we moved. What totally pissed me off was it was TWO WOMEN, one in a wheelchair. The one in the wheelchair took the space between the seats and then her friend who was at least 350 pounds took TWO SEATS that we were in. If she had been able to fit in one seat we could have stayed in those same seats we were in and she could have taken the other one on the end. But no, we had to move to the front row becuase her ass who I'm sure only bought a ticket for ONE SEAT had to sit in two seats. You can't see shit in the front row and it was awful so we got up and left and never saw the movie. Don't get me wrong, I am not hateful towards those who are overweight. But of all my friends who are overweight I've never had one have to have two fucking seats at the movies. I guess me watching Harry Potter just wasn't meant to be.
