    Default mood enhacements?

Does anyone know a GOOD one? I usually go to work in a bad mood, so I have to drink in order to feel in a better mood and make more money.
I might've to go to the doctor's and see if i'm depressed, but meanwhile...

Remove yourself from negative talk or situations before work. Avoid negative people, five o'clock news, or unnessasary conflicts .Get your game face on.
LISTEN TO HIGH ENERGY MUSIC, EAT A BALANCED MEAL, AND LOTS OF WATER! Read positive quotes!

Set a goal every night to reach such as .....20 dances or talk to at least 20 people a night. Building up a clientel and working a consistant schedule will assure a good night so you will look forward to the $$$$$.

Cheery upbeat music does it for me. Whenever I hear a song like "Don't Stop Till Ya Get Enough" or "Got to Give It Up," I go from angry sleepy bitch to upbeat bouncy fungirl. And I have an energy drink or coffee while I do my makeup, and another later in the night if I'm getting tired. Don't drink alcohol! It'll make you sleepy, which makes you bitchy.

Put a big fake smile on and dance around home before you go out. I agree- high energy, silly music does it for me. Get the adrenaline going in a positive way. And when you're at work, every time someone asks "how are you?" or whatever, get excited and tell them "excellent!" or something similar. Then just make us some bs of why it's such a good day (ie- "Oh I just love the weekends!" ) or just be mysteriously very happy. It will make you seem infectiously fun, and that it puts others in a good mood too- and before you know it, you will forget that you're only 'pretending' to be happy.

a glass of orange juice and a healthy, nutrient packed snack (say, a peice of cheese, a handful of grapes, and some whole wheat crackers) always works for me. don't skip the protein and fat part- they help the most, followed by the vitamin C. or, an old standy- a peice of chocolate.

but definately go see a doc if you think you're depressed, or might be. and remember, you're never stuck with a counselor if you don't like them. you can always keep looking. i know how hard it can be, and i wish you the best.

I bring pictures of my loved ones to look at in the dressing room & remind me of why I'm doing this difficult job. Sometimes I'll call home and see about dinner/ groceries/ weekend plans to remind myself I have something to look forward to- a nice meal, something fun, a shopping trip or what have you.
Maybe you should switch clubs- the first club I worked at was so rough, NO ONE smiled in the dressing room when we were getting ready for the shift. That sucked! I went on to work at places where I was actually eager to go in and work.

Maybe you don't like your job?? If you feel this way "only" before going to work.

It's true what alot of the others said however, watch a silly movie, talk to fun people etc. Stay away from anything negative.

    Take B vitamins (a b-50 or -100 complex) and 5-HTP (50 mg/day) if you're depressed, it usually helps me.

Yes. The b-vitamins help a lot. I listen to motivational sales tapes on the way to work sometimes, and then I go in feel ing jazzed about some new technique I want to try. There are some herbal remedies, like St. Johh's Wort, that can help you if you are feeling mildly blue. I think I might try those before I go get anti-depressants, as the side effects of an herbal are usually less.

What exactaly are you thinking about before you go to work? I ask you b/c that may be a clue to your moods. Are you depressed b/c you have to leave loved ones? (I hate leaving my kid) or because you hate the drive, or ecause you have to face some person you can't stand? If you can tell us specifically what is bothering you, maybe we can help more.

DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT take St. John's Wort if you are on the birth controll pill.

It will interfere with the birth control pill and you could get pregnant. A lot of people don't know this. Spread the word because this is important!

Do the thymus thump! Take a deep breath, think of someone you love, and exhale while thumping your thymus gland with your fist (towards the top of your sternum, just above between your breasts). It actually stimulates your body's own happy chemicals :-)

5-HTP is an herbal compound from griffonia seed that turns into serotonin in your system. It works pretty well, and works quickly -- like in 1/2 hour to 1 hour usually.

It's apparently safe to use with the pill (I read a list of interactions here and the only medications you should NOT take it with are apparently commercial psych meds.)

Yeah doctors are in the business of pushing drugs often times, but then there are side effects.. Finding natural methods that boost your mood are always best like exercise finding a hobby etc, because if you are looking for that magic pill or instant gratification it will come with long term consequences like dependency, addiction along with the many side effects they list or will take another 20 years for them to discover their synthetic junk dose.
    Any ways take care.

st. john's wort also interacts negatively with antibiotics, so if you get an infection, tell your doctor. fish oil is a much safer alternative- but use the kind in enteric coated capsules. without the coating, it is less effective, and causes gastro-intestinal distress.

I've been on St Johns Wort for about a month and it did nothing for my depression. However, I recently started eating tons of lettuce and spinach (like, 4 huge salads a day) and found I'm much more even mooded (no huge mood swings), I'm more hopefull in general and I sleep well. I just feel more sane now, so I'd recommend it to people suffering from depression/mood swings in addition to finding other help. I know lettuce has a soporific affect, so maybe I'm just mildly sedated?

Meditation. It really works and helps clear the mind especially before bed. Stops all those racing thoughts and the negative. If you ever need help with it or want to know how to get started with meditation, let me know I can help.

I must agree on this one, 5htp works very well in regulating your mood & keeping you balanced. Especially for me because I tend to have a lot of anxiety sometimes & taking 5htp helps me out a lot. Also back in the day when i was a party girl I used to do a lot of X & that stuff balances your serotonin levels back out again.
