    Default Aloe Vera for Acne

I read that Aloe Vera helps acne.

Retin-A, the miracle product, is too drying for my skin during the cold winter months. I've decided to use Aloe Vera until March rolls around and I can use Retin-A again. I'll keep you posted.

Has anyone else tried Aloe Vera for acne?

Aloe vera mixed with tea tree oil is good for spot treatment of acne. aloe vera on its own is good for you, but won't prevent acne.

If retin-a is too drying, you might want to switch to a 15% glycolic acid formula, like Gly-derm. Another option is a salicylic acid formula. Neutrogena makes one. You may also want to consider microdermabrasion or blue light LED treatments if they re available in your area.

    ^^^^
I really do love my Retin-A. It's just too cold to use it right now. Glycolics don't seem to do much for me. Glyderm seemed to cause more pimples, as did Peter Thomas Roth. I get red with Sal. Acid. If my skin becomes too dry, I break out. My skin is atrociously picky.

I'm going to try Zinc Picolinate as well. Many on this board found success with it.

Definitely try zinc supplements. I've also found that they help people too.

Glycolics don't work on everyone. Have you thought about switching to a more nondrying version of retin-a, like renova?

I am having good luck with Zinc now, I think it just took a few weeks for it too really show. I have been finally having some better results with just using Cetaphil and then using a cotton pad and wiping my face with witch hazel. I found the Clean & Clears acne spot cream works just as well as some of the expensive things out there. So I use that when I feel a zit forming and it makes it disappear.

The Body Shop has some nice aloe vera/ tea tree oil blemish control products. However, be careful if you decide to drink aloe vera juice as a sort of "inside out" skin curative- my dad did that and had a scary allergic reaction. (Big blotches all over.)
I'm a big fan of egg yolk facials & Ivory soap to topically treat acne. You just have to keep trying different things.

I took Zinc Picolinate(sp?) for two months and it did absolutely nothing to me.

Acne treatment is like everything else out there- treatment works for some, not for others. A client swears by salicylic acid, another swears by glycolid acid, some swear by retin-a (myself included). zinc has done good for some, but not for me. Some swear by benzoyl peroxide.
some swear by microdermabrasion. for a friend of mine, she altered her diet and has remianed acne free for years.

I've noticed that acneic skin is often already irritated, so it's important to deep clean without damaging or irritating skin further. I usually don't recommend harsh cleansers or astringents.

Try different treatments but try them for 2 months to get a good idea.

If Retin-a is too drying in the winter, try using Renova. It's a less drying form of retin-a.

Here's the Clean and Clear stuff I use:

I agree that everyone's skin can be different so you just have to try different things sometimes. For example, if I use any of the other Clean and Clear products my skin breaks out horribly, only this one doesn't bother me.

I've always had problems with cystic acne (especially around my chin). I tried everything, including going to a dermatologist and getting cortisone shots (but only when it got "really" bad), and also taking antibiotics. I tried Retin-A years ago, but it was way too drying and made me look sunburned. I started using Neutrogena facial wash, and then use "Clean & Clear astringent for sensitive skin" afterwards. I haven't had a break-out since January! I also use the astringent on my upper back, and did get a major break-out when I got lazy once and didn't use the astringent. (Backne......ewwwwww. I know.) I have to say that Clean & Clear rocks!!

Guess I shouldn't have bragged. Now my chin has one giant cluster of cysts on it!

sounds cheap but clearasil ultra: vanishing acne treatment cream works miracles. It really does clear up your skin in like 2 or 3 days total. I've had skin problems my entire life & this stuff is even better than murad.. and it's only $9

The only thing that works for me is benzyl peroxide, when used in the www.acne.org regime. It takes a loong time to work though, like 8 weeks to totally clear you up.

There is rarely any acne treatment that gets rid of it 100%. The key is to find treatment that improves your condition overall and reduces the number of outbreaks to a minimum.

    Update:

I use Retin A 0.05% every 3rd night. For all other nights, I use Fruit of the Earth's Aloe Vera. My skin is clear and moisturized.
