Ugh.....don't get me started on how untalented Sarah Silverman is.....if you had someone writing all your material for you, had a good agent and slept your way to success like she has then you could be in her shoes too. (and yes I have firsthand knowledge of these things, my bf is a comic and works in television).
I have respect for entertainers that have legitimate talent.

Idealism is fine, but as it approaches reality, the costs become prohibitive.

On ifilm.com, a Jesus is Magic clip where Sarah Silverman talks about 9/11 is pretty damn tacky.
I really want to see it. The trailer looks hilarious.

I have always loooooved her but will have to wait about a month to see the flick.
and I am laughing hard if sleeping with Jimmy Kimmel is "the top."

For all the comics she has slept with to try and advance herself in the spotlight, Kimmel so far is her "goldmine". If many of these guys hadn't fed her "controversial" material along the way, you wouldn't even know who she was. She'd be just another female comic working the comedy club circuit across the US.and I am laughing hard if sleeping with Jimmy Kimmel is "the top."

who the hell is Sarah Silverman?
Wow. Little bitter or something? heheOriginally Posted by former_LV_dancer
I don't mean to be bitchy but YOU don't have 1st hand knowledge. You heard it from your BF which makes it second hand. Secondly anyone with any sort of recognition has writers. And isn't having a good agent a good thing? Slept your way to sucess... Ya like that hasn't been used against most comics/actresses who've managed to do well for themselves.
I don't know. I guess I just don't understand why you're being so negative and pissy about her? Sorry if i'm sounding like an asshole or something...

Not bitter, just she has not accomplished much on her own and isn't respected in the comedy world by ALOT of people. My bf has been in the business 16 years. I've been with him the last 4 and am involved in all areas of his career and business. I created and run his website, book gigs, go to gigs, know club owners across the country, and know countless other comedians. I've gotten very involved in the business. And now he has been working in television about the last 5 years and I have gotten familiar with that aspect too. So I do know things first hand. I admit I am a critical of people's acts just because I've been so involved the last 4 years.

Writers are people you hire to supply you with material, that's not what she has done. I'm not gonna get into it all....I don't find her funny and knowing her backround makes her very unappealing.

Hmmm... I have no opinion. I saw the trailer, and it honestly looks like it could be funny.... not to be a prissy priss or anything, but the whole Jesus is Magic thing annoys me. I'm not for being politically correct or anything, but I don't think that we should make fun of anyone's religion whatsoever. So the title to the film annoys me.... but I guess I'd have to see it to really judge, eh?

Hmm. A bunch a guys sitting around talking about how a woman who succeeds in their boys club is a hack who would be nowhere if she weren't flashing her vagina around town. And then their girlfriends vehemently agree. That's certainly a unique story.Originally Posted by former_LV_dancer

Well gee, maybe your bf should try those things then....Originally Posted by former_LV_dancer
I'd so hit that. She reminds me of myself, very innapropriate. That's comedy, the performer gets a free pass to mock life's tribulations. Its playing in my 'hood in a couple of weeks, woohoo!!!

Oh, you're so sarcastic, Jenny. I'm sure every story, every tidbit is absolutely completely true. Not an embellishment among them. And I'm betting the stories never get larger as they are passed down, and the people originating them are saints themselves.Originally Posted by Jenny

First off, I don't know anyone here who would do that, or at least they'd stop short of actual sexual contact anyway. Second, it's been stated numerous times by numerous people in this forum that we've got nothing morally against prostitution. I just think Sarah needs to keep her standup on the street corner, that's all.Originally Posted by Jenny

This wasn't just tacky, it was obnoxious and even aside from that, it wasn't even funny. I'm actually surprised they kept and used that clip considering she was performing in a theatre full of probably 700+ people and got about 4 people laughing at the joke. Many people don't write their own material, there is really nothing wrong with that as the delivery is half the importance of the joke anyway (Frank Sinatra never wrote any of his own material, but would you call him no-talent hack? I think not) but with this girl, she's just another shock-comic who will come and go in no time.Originally Posted by Lizette

Speaking hypothetically, my only judgment in a situation like the one alleged would be: Was the material given willingly, whether it was a gift or in exchange for sex. If the answer is yes, it was given willingly, I see no problem to criticize. If the answer is no, the issue is stealing, and the problem's not confined to one comic or female comics.Originally Posted by former_LV_dancer
