No kidding. No one ever to seems to have my back when I'm doing dances. I do believe clubs are protecting themselves by making us stay. Another benefit for them having us wait is to watch us tip out. Have you ever tried to leave without a tipout? Clubs won't let you.

If you want to get legal, tipouts aren't mandatory. Clubs can not legally make you pay their employees with money you earned.

I can't believe this protection thing!! Wow. Our managers could care less about us when we leave that place. And so long as we've been there for five hours, we can leave whenever the hell we want. I'm a John Stuart Mill girl. Bring on my personal freedom. I will make sure my safety is taken care of, because I can do it more efficiently and adequately then being locked in the building for an extra hour. Sure, the people in the club don't do much, but no one tips them. Some girls tip the Dj, and that's all. I happen to tip the manager because I like to work whenever I want and not get hassled over when to come in. He thanked me and told me the other day I am the only one who tips him- and there must be 75 girls working at that club!! (not all at once, obviously). And really, I tip the guy five bucks. Frankly, I'm all too happy to outsource my protection.

Logan I wouldn't really complain if I were you.

Yeah some poster called "bullshit" on this one, but it is actually a good idea.

It is actually a good thing. I regularly stay over all the time, but I also help stock bar, and just relax from the night.

Unless you actually have been stalked from the bar, you never know how helpful this really is.

It IS bullshit & i guess now illegal.
Geat point about bouncers not having our backs during dances, and letting girls drive home drunk. If say you fell on stage could you bring a lawsuit? NO! If someones follows you home a lawsuit? NO! If a dancer drinks too much at the club and the club never "cuts her off" she gets into an accident, can she press a lawsuit? Umm...
    This is total B.S.

The club as a certain amount of liability if the customers drive home drunk. I assume the same liability would apply to employees. And if it is a club in which the girls are encouraged to drink, there is that much more.

    YES!

My club gives breathalizers to drunk dancers before they let them leave. The dancers have to sit and wait until their blood alcohol level is under the legal limit. Do clubs really care? Not really. They just don't want a lawsuit.

I used to get forced to stay extra hours all the time at my old club (even though we signed a contract stating our shift as 6 hours). I used to have a big problem with that because sometimes I really had stuff to do or I might have been feeling sick & was still forced to stay.. Eventually that became the reason why i got fired because I wasnt feeling well one night & could not work over my already scheduled work hours, so they fired me. But I found a better club to work at anyway so I am happy.

This is an interesting one, but in the hypothetical proposed, I think its a loser. The action at issue is False Imprisonment (by an employer). It's a messy question to resolve with in this hypo. The motivation of the employer is key, as are the very specific facts of the case, and the location of the club, since this is a labor law issue. Most of the authority on this topic is related to cases where an employer suspected an employee of theft and detained them, or in the alternative, the employee was detained and physically abused as retaliation or intimidation. In both instances its not clear whether that case would be a Worker's compensation claim exemption to tort litigation. As a matter of common sense I'm with tort...I mean Tart. The last thing on the club management mind here is causing harm to you.

Of course other tort issues may be available....but a real money maker better have some meat to it. Whining is not jury friendly.

One of the clubs I work at does this too. The reason is because they have had big problems with liquor commission in the past, and sued the liquor commission, and WON!

So now the Liquor people are looking for any wrong move on the part of this club. One of which being dancers leaving with customers. Even if a dancer's husband is in the bar, she is not permitted to get in a car with him after work. If she needs a ride from her husband after work, he must not come into the bar, at all. He must wait in the Valet line.

Of course there is the mandatory tip out at the end of the night, as well. We all know what the minimum tip is before starting work, so I'm not sure why some girls fight this. There are clubs in the area with lower or no tip outs required, and these clubs have lower hiring standards as well, so go work there instead if the tipout is such a big problem for the dancer.

We rarely have to wait 45 minutes or longer. Usually only on the weekends does the wait get so long after closing. I know that there is a wait after work, so I bring a sack lunch and have a bite to eat. I will also wash off my makeup or chat on the phone, or take a shower (if no one else is in there).

Is it legal that they require me to wait in the building for so long after my shift? No porbably not, but it isn't legal that they require me to pay a fee to work there, or that they require me to pay their support staff, but that has never deterred a club from makeing the dancer pay house fees and mandatory tip outs either.

Ironically, my club just started doing this tonight! I am mad--but I cannot do anything. Oh, well.

i doubt if clubs (like mine) would care about your cash. it's the rules. my club does this too. we get out by 230 at the latest usually.
