    Dancing and Horses

Okay i've noticed that there seems to be a few dancers here who either have horses or ride, that I can tell anyway. Im curious as to how many there really are. And being from the Equestrian world myself I know that if my trainers or fellow riders ever found out I do this id be snubbed from the world. So what made you get into it knowing there is this risk. So fellow horse girls come out and expose yourselves
What kind of riding do you do? Do you have a horse? I guess im just nosey and want to find other dancers who ride as well... hehe...
I am a 3 day event rider, I had a QH mare who I took to Young Riders at Bromont. I just recently sold her due to soundness issues and hope to get another horse soon.

I grew up around horses. My family and I bred and raced Standardbreds. I spent a lot of time growing up at the Meadowlands... I rode English style for years...

I havent been on a horse in ages. I stopped riding after my mom died... 20 years ago. I've only ridden once since, a few years ago in Brooklyn.

I'd love to get back into riding. I miss horses.

I understand completly paige... I havnt been on a horse since June... its the longest i've gone without riding in my entire life. This is the first winter I havnt worked at a horse farm... Its going to be hard. Im hoping to be able to pay for lessons again soon. Its something that once you start you end up missing. It becomes a part of you. Horses are an addiction and its in a healthy way(minus the financial strain they put on you). I really miss Cally... my lil baby girl

I love horses!! Such amazing creatures...I did vaulting (gymnastics/dance on horseback) for about 8 years competitively...wow do I miss it! I've competed on all different types, my favorites being draft horses and warmbloods...Gumby, my team's Belgian, was just about the smartest animal I've ever met, and full of mischief.

I've found that all my years of the sport have actually contributed a lot to my dancing, haha...now, since I'm no longer active in the sport I've replaced my addiction to horses with an addiction to my pole!

I've been hoping to start at least riding again, though living in Los Angeles isn't exactly conducive to it...ah well.

Yep. Mother bought me a Quarter horse! Buckskin. StarBuck! He was registered as both.

We hit horse shows, i rode in timed events. Barrel racing, (Clover Leaf) Pole Bending, etc.

Had him a long time. I have a few polaroids of him. He was one fast horse! Was a little barn sour at first, but we got out of that, and i spent my Saturday and Sundays all day with him! After school as much as i could.

We had to keep him at a private board stable. So we paid (my mother) for full service, i.e. hay, grain, box stall, and them turning the horses out to the field for many hours a day!

    Wow! Those days...wow!

OMG, I absolutely ADORE horses! My greatest life dream, is to have a horse/burro/animal sanctuary.
Anyway, on my soapbox, for my fav. cause, the prevention of the cruel slaughtering of these beautiful animals, many of them healthy, some are actually the wild free roaming horses. For the foreign comsumption of their meat.

I'm a horse fiend too. When I was younger, I exercise rode racehorses. Then I moved on to Thoroughbred three day eventers, and finally Arabian hunters and dressage. Three day eventing is my first love, though. It's been a while (I'm at college) and I miss it terribly!

I have wanted to ride since a was a little girl. I used to get any book about horse from the library and read them over and over. I'd stack my pillows at the end of my bed and tie strings on the head board and taught myself how to post! So well infact that when I finally decided four years ago to take lessons that my trainer couldn't believe that I'd never been on a horse!

I just recently started leasing a horse from a gilr at my trainers stable, she's off at law school. She's awesome! A four year old off the track, her name is Lexi. She has a stripper name, it was meant to be! I find that I actually look forward to my days at the barn mucking the stall. It's become so relaxing.

My trainer and some of the older girls know what I do for a living. My trainer auctually looks forward to my work stroies. One girl even asked me if I'd spy on her man beacuse he wants to go to a strip club! I'm not competing in any big circuit events where i can imagine that it can be held against you.

I hope that one day I'll get my own horse but I love my step horse!

Aww Lexi is so cute! Its amazing how many dancers ride horses or used to. Honestly its a part of life I just cant live without. And tying strings on your bed is just way to cute lol!
I cant wait to get another horse and get back into riding... Im going to start lessons soon.. I've had a few bad falls over the years that have kind of killed my courage so I gotta redevelope it.

my parents kept horses, so i rode all the time when I was girl. I still go out to a friend's place whenever I can to spend time with her horses. I wish my current income would let me have one of my own..

I am another horse fiend- horses have been My Life since I was about nine...I had to take a break as of last summer due to a back injury plus I just don't have time for competitive training anymore with 3rd year university classes. But man, I miss my mister. He's being leased out right now, and as of next spring, I am totally going back to riding. But Cally, I hear you- if my competitors ever caught wind of me dancing...oh man!! I was training Prix St.Georges dressage...serious stuff! lol I just never bothered to go Young Riders...I dunno... I learned that riding was more fun than out and out showing. I'm not very competitive at heart. Maybe I'll go YR this summer ...

Those folks are sooo snooty though. I think I want to retire from the pro stuff and just be a trail girl. That's what my beast likes best anyway.
He's a Westfalian import, and the smartest horse I've ever had. Now I think I have to visit him this weekend!!

Oh, and since we are posted as a pair on many dressage show sites, his name, like mine, must remain anonymous!! hahaha. But his nickname is Addy.

I know what you mean Molly... I dont really put my name or hers out. Her nick name is Cally. We're on a lot of three day eventing sites, young riders etc... I havnt been in the show ring in almost three years. I did show a couple of OTTB's basic dressage last winter on the schooling circut. I dont know if I could get back into competitive riding. I like trail riding, trail blazing... I miss my lil girl. She developed ring bone/nevicular. Apparently QH's are not built for eventing higher then training lol. She loved it though. I started training her over fences as a 6 year old. By the time she was 9 she was going prelim. She just cought on so fast. She is living the high life on a 30 acre pasture having lots of sex ahaha... the guy I sold her to tried to use her in his school just to do walk/trot stuff but shes to hot headed.
And Molly your guy looks really familiar I think i've seen you on the circut awhile ago... but i'll shush now

I've never done any professional riding. I have 2 horses, Beau & Jo. My sister is here for Thanksgiving and she and I went for a ride on them yesterday. I love it, it's so relaxing and just really makes me feel like I am more at peace with the world. We have a donkey with the horses and he chases my dog around the pasture. It's too funny!

    dont get me started.
she's young, sound and sane, but she was in the feedlot. go figure.
i really never knew untill the last few years how many, useful, nice horses go to feed PEOPLE as a delicacy. it makes me crazy.

I have worked with rescues before... one of my best show horses was actually rescued off the meat truck. I felt bad for the poor guy, my original idea was to just rescue him put some weight on him and sell him... but I fell in love with him so I kept him and put some training for eventing on him(turned out he was a prix st george dressage horse) and took him to prelim level eventing. He is now 23 retired and living on a 50 acre pasture with a couple of my friends horses. He has arthritus in his knees so he can no longer jump but my friends mom rides him once n awhile on trails.
Horse slaughter sickens me, there are so many horses people just send for slaughter because they dont win blue ribbons anymore and cant be bothered to hold onto them long enough to sell them. Slaughter = quick money. And the sad thing is in some countries horse meat is considered a delicasy.
Velvet what your going to do is wonderful and I wish you the best of luck.

    Awww!!!!!!!

I've been looking into getting a horse from a rescue organization too. They have all kinds of PMU mares and ex-race horses... one poor girl was starved and has a heart murmur now.

Best wishes to both of you velvet!! Make sure you get us some pictures!

Congrats Velvet! She sounds like such a sweet horse. I'm sure animals know when they're taken in by kind people too. The rescued ones always seem to become attached and so wonderfully loyal to those who have saved them. Merry christmas! Good luck!

Crap....I got the assignment wrong, again. I thought I was supposed to ask horses how many of them were owned or had been ridden by strippers. This proves what has long been suspected: I do not get out much.
