    Default Ugh, Mouth Sores!!

I get cold sores from time to time but I don't think that's what this is. Yesterday I felt something like a rash on the corners of my mouth, so I put Releve on it all day in case it was cold sores. On the way home from work it wasn't getting any better, so I coated it in Carmex before going to bed.

This morning I have this oozy, gross-feeling rash not just in both corners of my mouth, but also all over the roof of my mouth and going down my throat! It doesn't look like a cold sore, which is a big lump or two; this is a mostly flat rash. It's oozy like a cold sore though, with that same icky taste and feeling. But I've never had cold sores spread in a flat rash all over the inside of my mouth and down my throat. This is so disgusting and of course I have a big weekend coming up where I need to look good.

You can't really see it; the skin just looks blotchy. But I sure as heck don't want to put my makeup on it. Anybody know what this is or how to fix it?? I don't have health insurance!

I would suggest keeping it dry and coated with medicated lip balm, like carmex or abreva(i think that is the name of it) I hope it goes away by the weekend!

I'm keeping Carmex on the outside of my mouth. But I still feel like I have an oozing rash all over the inside of my mouth and throat. It feels SO GROSS.

Have you had the chicken pox?

Yes, when I was three. This isn't chicken pox, it's some kind of rash that's only in and around my mouth. It is now covering my upper lip. You can't see it unless you really look but it feels disgusting, and it's making my throat sore.

I am not saying this to scare you, and I hope this isn't the case, but this sounds like something another girl I worked with had. You should go to the doctor in case it is an STD. For as much money as some dancers spend on a purse, you could have a doctor tell you exactly what it is. Your health is not the area of your life where you should be cheap. It sucks having to pay out of pocket, but it's better than ignoring a potentially serious problem.

What STD could it be? It's not herpes; I already have cold sores and they don't look like this. I haven't been blowing anybody but my bf and I don't THINK he would be infected with anything... boy, will he suffer if he is!!!

What did the girl you worked with have?

It could be a yeast infection (in the mouth, called thrush.) Yeast infections can get spread from skin to skin contact & are hard to detect if almost healed or just beginning.

^^ Yep, I really think it's a yeast infection. That is how thrush starts out. Search it thru google if you don't have any where else to get info about it. Is your tongue like white with a rash look?

No, my tongue looks normal. You can't see any of this rash, I can just feel it everywhere. The skin on the outside of my mouth looks a little blotchy but you can't see a rash. And it's not on my tongue, just my lips, the roof of my mouth, and the back of my throat.

my suggestion is to go to the doctors! It could be thrush but since you said it isn't covering your tongue that makes it sound like that's not what it is. You could also have strep throat or strep B which is a different line of the strep virus. It usually causes problems down below but with me it causes issues in my mouth as well! It's important that you get this checked out so that they can clear it up asap! Good luck and get in ASAP to the DOCS!

It's better that you do it today rather than wait if you have a big weekend.

sometimes strep throat can be accompanied with a rash, but this sounds different. Have you been around sick people? Are the rashes/sores in your mouth just one big sore or are they separated?
I got foot and mouth disease or wahtever it's called about 6 years ago from babysitting this sick little kid, it started with a few cold sore like bumps in my mouth and then spread all over the inside of my mouth and all over my hands, a tiny bit on my feet. It was the most horrible thing ever, it was so ugly. I would definitely advise you to go get checked out at the doctor, and good luck I hope you feel better.

I feel the need to listerine just from reading. I would just go to urgent care if the family doctor is not available. Definitely, go to the doc now. Hope it's nothing serious.

    I've never heard of thrush.

Does that look like your mouth? If so it might be thrush like others said. I hate clinics too they take soo long and everybodys crying baby is in there.

Oh, yuck, I SO could have done without seeing that picture!!! No, fortunately my mouth looks nothing like that. Except for the blotchy skin on my lips, you can't see anything at all (thank goodness for that, at least!). And it's not on my tongue at all. It's an even, flat rash covering the roof of my mouth and the outside of my lips. Tiny, blotchy bumps. It's worst in the corners of my mouth but it also covers my upper lip and a little of my lower lip.

I guess I'm just going to have to wait until it goes away on its own. I went to the clinic yesterday and the "doctor" there had already made up her mind what it was before she even saw me: canker sores. It is NOT canker sores. I have had canker sores before and this couldn't be anything further from that. She didn't listen to a word I said and when she went to go look it up, all she did was an internet search for canker sores! She showed me a bunch of pictures and descriptions and kept insisting, "Look, see, little red round painful sores," and wouldn't listen when I kept telling her I DO NOT HAVE little red round painful sores. So I left and I guess I'm just going to have to be thankful it isn't hideous looking and hope it goes away.

(nothing like good morning with a nasty picture) I think I might know what youre talking about? I maybe had what youre describing years ago...it was recourring and annoying. They were tiny tiny bumps on my lips all over my lips. I just put chapstick on them and vaseline on my lips till my bumps fell off b/c they were shedding? Wierd..maybe that helps.
Good your mouth doesnt look like the pic though.

Me too. At least I have something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving!

I remembered last night, I once got a similar rash that started out this way and then spread all over my face. They had to give me a steroid to make it go away. It doesn't seem to be doing it this time though. I'll just keep a thick layer of Carmex over it and hopefully it'll disappear soon. Come to think of it, I guess I'd rather have this than fever blisters. At least I don't look awful.

Well, I hope that you are putting the carmex on with something disposable...and then washing your hands afterwards. I also hope that you are not contagious...that shit can sometimes spread like crazy.

Go back to the clinic and bitch them out a bit and then threaten to sue the clinic if there are any problems that they failed to diagnose because they are not listening to you. Demand to see a different doctor.

I cannot imagine what is it. I've racked my brain trying to think of something, but I don't come up with anything. But, you need to have a doctor really look at it and take a culture...maybe even do some blood work. You need to know what it is. You may be keeping Carmex on it, but remember that some "infections", etc need to be kept "in the open". Putting stuff on them that "coats" them could make it last longer or get worse. You need to know what you are dealing with so that you can treat it appropriately. You can even go to the local ER and tell them that you have no money, but you were just at the clinic and they told you that you had canker sores, etc, etc, etc. You can make a payment plan or they can help you apply for aid or they'll just write it off...but you NEED to know NOW.

If it's not gone by Monday then I'll do that. But I'm betting it goes away over the weekend. Hope so, anyway! And yes, I am putting the Carmex on with my finger and then washing my hands, and I wash my hands every time I touch my face. I don't want it to spread to me or anyone else. It's probably an allergic reaction to something; that's what it looks like, an allergy rash. Can't think what else it would be.

Ohhh, a brainstorm for whats causing it, Did you just change tooth brushes? or recently? new tooth paste? I'm alergic to the tooth brushes with latex on them, and they make my mouth break out like that, generally the outside of my lips, then roof of my mouth, then gums. It aint pretty, but all I have to do is stay away from latex brushes. Even if a brush is packaged by a machene that has latex, it makes my mouth nuts. I have to really wash brush w/dishsoap and make sure it has no latex.
Also, if someone was burning poson ivy near you, could do it, try antacids to take the irritation away(chew it up, then plaster to roof of mouth and try not to swallow)
Also tooth paste with certain whiteners, and the tooth whitening strips do harm to my mouth.
Could be an explanation to the mouth funk, and it's better to rule that out b4 thinking std or a yeast infection.

Huh. Interesting. I'm not allergic to latex and there haven't been any changes or anything new. Been eating the same food, and no new toothbrushes or makeup or anything. I have no clue what could've caused this. It does seem to be going away though, however slowly.

Fortunately it doesn't hurt. It's a little uncomfortable where my lips are cracked, but the rash itself isn't painful and it's stopped itching on the roof of my mouth. I feel fine, no fever or anything. So I'm just going to let it go away on its own.
