    Default flexibility?

So, how flexible do you have to be as a stripper? Is it really important? I say this because I'm nowhere near flexible unfortunately. I can't do the splits....but I know some other girls can't. But my joints are kind of whacked to the point that I can't even stand one leg straight up in the air like a lot of regular girls can....even if they aren't dancers! heh. So do you think this will limit me?

Doing the splits is not a requirement for becoming a dancer. I don't do them, and yes I know how. I am more of a 'seduction' type dancer. I move slowly, very sensual. The girls who are swinging and carrying on on poles are usually the ones doing the splits. I'ts apart of their routine.

I will say that any sort of stretching is better than none. Stretching just feels good. You could always take a yoga class. It will help on your focus, flexibility, and breathing.

Oh honey. I can barely touch my toes. I damaged a groin muscle a few years ago, so I barely spread my legs enough to ride a horse. Or even a collie. Don't worry about it.

Flexibility is nice but you can pick it up along the way. I've taken to spending an hour every night doing serious stretching exercises, especially around my hip/leg sockets. Just stretch as far as you can until it hurts, and hold that position until you absolutely can't take it anymore. And keep doing that in different positions for an hour. Sometimes my bf will even push and hold me in a deeper stretch than I can hold by myself. After an hour of that you feel really loose; it hurts, but only for a little while, and over time your flexibility will improve tremendously.

Flexibility is very important. You can do a lot more if you are flexible and in shape. It will prevent injuries as well as help your stage performance.

Flexibility ~ I agree is very important, but not just for dance. It is, I believe one of the things that will keep you fit throughout your life. Just a lil stretching everyday can do amazing things for your body. Bob Anderson has an excellent book called simply 'Stretching'. It has tons of easy ways to work toward your own flexibility along with the proper way to do them so you don't hurt yourself.

    Good Luck!!

Flexibility helps, but IMO and IME isn't necessary to being a stripper.

I've just been dancing myself for a few weeks and am not very flexible. It's getting better with stretching, workouts and work but I have lots of work to do! lol

I am no where near being able to do the splits, I can just about do a 90 degree angle, lol! It's pretty sad, I know but I'm working on it and can definitely say that I've been able to dance and make plenty of $$ without being very flexible.

I also work the slow, soft and sensual angle with my stage shows. I don't try to do anything impressive but I do try to to look sexy and into what I'm doing. I've gotten quite a bit of compliments and pretty much every one is surprised that I'm new to dancing. Pretty much the same thing goes with lap dances. I've gotten a couple requests for moves I couldn't do but the custies were very understanding that I wasn't able to.

Don't let it hinder you and work on it to improve,
    Good luck,

    Pixie

Much like Jenny, I can barely touch my toes!!! I think it depends on how you see yourself dancing and what kind of dancer you want to be. Some are the slow, sensual mysterious vixen types, while others can be like acrobats - having a performance filled with tricks and stretches. Personally, I don't like dancers who go on stage and look like they are starring in an exercise video. Just be sexy, don't be afraid to touch yourself in a seductive and fluid way while on stage. I'm sure the guys won't mind!

As you keep dancing, you will gain flexibility. When I first started dancing a year ago, a came nowhere near touching my toes, but now i can bend over and touch the floor while i am wearing 7 inch heels with a 3 inch platform- and i don't do any stretching outside of work. Flexibility is not really important when you are dancing. If you are flexible then you will be able to do moves that other girls can't do, but it won't really impact your money

I just started dancing a month ago and am a lot closer to doing the splits than I was when I started, so yes, it'll come in time. Be careful not to hurt yourself, and if you do, rest the sore parts. Do stretching exercises (before your set or during it on the sly if it's slow!)
