I was CRAZY about tanning. In two years I don't think I skipped more than 1 day and now I have not gone in 4 months. I don't use sunless tanner either but I have black hair so the light skin doesn't look too bad.

I'm in a crazy tanning phase now. I spent 20 years of life pale as an albino and I'm loving having some pigment! But I think I'll slow down in a little while. I don't really want to push the cancer issue too far....

KamrynAnne what kind of sunless tanner do you use? And how often do you apply it?I use Savage Bronze but I use it on top of salon tanning. I'd like to cut down on indoor tanning If I could find a real good product to use.

Even as a brown person I love to be a nice rich golden brown - like I am a piece of toast. I wish I could find something more effective for my skin color.

    I self tan 4-5 times a aweek.

Yes, last year I was hardcore and i was headed in that direction this year, but I've cut it down to 1-2 times a week. I've read that UV lights release endorphins which is maybe why it's so addicting (not to mention how great you look presently) but I don't want wrinkles either so I'm not going as much.

I gave up the tanning bed almost six months ago or so for the same reason (worrying about skin damage)... I think I might go once in a while through fall and winter to combat SAD...

Anyway... The best self tanner I've found is called "Tan Towels" I've been buying them at Sephora... They have no color on them so they don't stain your clothes, they don't streak, and they fade naturally. They cost a lil bit more than others but they are by far the best...

I'm gonna see if I can find the link for them...

I quit tanning quite a few years ago. I used to get really dark and go to the tanning bed twice a week. I was mistaken as Italian all the time. Now I am extremely pale and I have learned to like it.

I quit tanning because I was worried about wrinkles and skin cancer. I wish there were more models actresses with their natural skin tone so a tan wouldn't be equated with health and beauty.

Yes, I was. For four years straight. Started off as twice a week, then once a week, then once every two weeks. I would tan for 20 minutes, burn my face & think it would be ok bc I would slap some Vit. E and the redness would go away. Doh, that was dumb! I haven't tanned since this summer. I stopped bc I was afraid of messing up the texture of my face's skin. And wind up looking like Magda....eek!! I knew this 26 yr. old guy who tanned as much as me and he looked so God awefully OLD!

When I start again this is what i'm gonna do: Tan my body only once every two weeks on a laydown bed, COVER my face with a towel and use a good sunless tanner on my face.

yeah last year i was definitely addicted to tanning, i only went 2-4 times a month before that during winter just to get color, last year i went a lot more because hollywood tans sucked me in to get a 3 month package. I went tanning two times this week but before that its been like a month and a half. I like the way I look pale, but I realized i do have a few sunspots, and when I tan my skin is a lot clearer and I never have to wear make up. I wish I could find a great self tanner but I end up streaky or orange almost all the time, and the bright lights do make me happy.
I have cut down a lot and hope not to go as much, but what the hell why not look good while I can. By the time I'm wrinkly and gross I'm sure there will be even crazier techniques or surgeries to make me look young.

A couple of things to consider about tanning, please keep this in mind Tan in moderation, some of you Ladies mentioned going everyday for 2 years IMHO not a good idea. I been in the tanning business for 14 yrs and tanned indoors just as long. Tanning must be done in moderation if you overexpose yourself to UV then you open the door for damaged skin.

As far as keeping your skin nice during tanning many 2006 lotions offer ingredients that are skin firming and anti aging. You won't get these lotions at Walmart lol.

And for the lady that said I will just put a towel over my face. Sweetie a towel will only block up to 75% of the UV. Choose a bed w/o facials use a spf on your face and back down on the amount of time your face is tanning. And don't forget moisturize your face and body when you are done tanning.

I'm addicted to tanning too. I try to go 3 or 4 times a week, and if that's not possible, at least 2. I love to go tanning. I feel like I look better with a tan, and it's so relaxing. I never tan my face, and I always cover my face with a towel. I used to put SPF 45 sunscreen on my face too when I tan. I haven't been doing that lately, but I'm going to start up again. I'm 26 and most people think I look younger than my age. But I've seen people with really leathery faces from tanning too much-it isn't pretty.

The spf on the face is a good idea, just remember about the towel still leting a lot of uv through. Here is something to remember stick a flashlight up to a towel and turn it on,if you see light through it (you will) so will your eyes with the uv on your face.Remember your eyelids are thin and it takes very little to get to your eyes.Use eye protection in the tanning bed and spf if you don' want color to the face.

    Hope this helps

I think a lot of the aging, wrinkles and sagging doesn't show up until your 30's and 40's. If you have a medium skin tone or tan really easily you probably won't have as much damage.
If you are fair skinned and have to really work at getting a tan I would suggest not going to a tanning bed and instead using self-tanners.

The only thing I can say to this is....aging,wrinkles can happen at early ages as well. When I first opened my Tanning salon a woman came in that was only 24 yrs old but when you looked at her from her appearance she looked in her mid to late 30's,she told me she tanned everyday and never used a lotion or moisturized her skin.

Don't believe that you have to be older to see the wrinkles and damage.
Learn to do things in Moderation.

As for fair skin people the rule of thumb is this "if you can't get a tan outside and all you do is burn then you won't be able to tan indoors"

When I get fair skin people in my salon I ask them if they can tan outside if they say no then I recommend AirBrush Tanning.
