Default What do you usually do to your nails for work?

I think the most practical thing would be a french tip on the hands (maybe pink and white tips at the salon so that they are more durable) and pretty manicured toes in a nude color to match with everything. I wanted to know what everyone does for their nails? Do you do acrylic at the nail salons? Or do you have natural nails- long or short? Do you do them yourselves or visit the salon regularly? I noticed my pedicure chips after just one night on the stage so i might have to touch them up myself.

This is the cheapest most flattering thing for nails- cut them short, file smooth & paint with a shimmery nail polish the same color as your skin. (For me it's gold-beige.) Put a clear top coat to fight chipping. I can make the polish last 5-7 days without touch-ups.

I just go clear, I use to have acrylic nails but once I added up how much I was spending per month I quit having those done.

Your nail polish will chip more the thicker it is. Just apply two THIN coats and then a thin clear topcoat, and it'll last about five days or so. I used to glob three thick coats on because I thought it would help it last, and it would look awful the next day. A manicurist set me straight.

French tips look so strippery. I had them once but didn't care for them. I hated my acrylic tips and now it's taking three months or so for my real nails to grow back once I had the acrylics removed. They look best when relatively short (men don't like claws) and rounded into oval tips (most people don't look good with square tips). I usually have a shimmery pale pink on mine and it goes with most everything.

plenty of girls, not just dancers get french tips.. i don't think they're necessarilly "stripperish"...

They just look strippery to me, I guess. They were in style with the mainstream awhile back but now I only see them on strippers, and it's usually the tanorexics who have them. Admittedly, this is in my very limited experience. Mostly it's just a matter of personal preference.

I used to get them done in french tips, but they continued to break and since my nails grow so fast $40 every two weeks could go to something better (like dog treats, heh)..
I have very pretty nails (If I do say so myself) and I keep them medium length since I do pole tricks, they are always polished with either a clear or a light shimmery pink.. I have 10 different shades of a nearly identical pink. I have to have my pinks.
Please don't lick me, it tickles..

I clean them..um thats about it. I file and cut them too. I make sure they are always clean when customers see them.

I used to get acrylic gels (which lasted much longer than plain acrylic) but that was $30-40 every 2 weeks. They would tear up my nails and get nasty stuff in them if I didnt constantly clean. I still think they are nice but McStrippery.

I don't wear polish much on my nails outside of the club except for special events. However, I do polish them before work. I will most often paint them a sheer silver color to accent my rhinestone jewelry.

If I am going to be wearing red , I will do a classic red color.

Once in a blue moon, like if I am going with a more punk/goth look then I will paint them a shiny black.

I get my nails done, acrylics.. color that matches the toes. I get a pedicure too. Two things that people always look at and judge you by when they meet you. Your hands and your teeth.. regardless of the right or wrong if it, if your hands and your teeth look bad, you will be judged poorly.

    My experience.
    My two cents worth.

Agreed. I never miss a dental appointment.

I have pretty natural nails but I recently had pink & whites applied. I love them! I never have to worry about polish chipping off. I'm really clumsy so I have a tendency to break my nail to the point where it bleeds, not a problem with the tips. I figure $50 per month in maintanence is worth my sanity.

I have pretty nails and hands, so I don't do the acrylic thing. I do a french manicure with a shimmery/glittery pink, and then have the thin white paint brush to do the white part. Same thing on my toes. My nails are medium to long. It saves me so much money not having to go get a manie & pedie every week or two. I do need to do pedicures every 2 to 3 weeks b/c my feet need extra care (skin peels), that's about it.

My nails have a very nice natural shape, but they always break when they reach a certain length.I used to polsh them and put a very high gloss clear coat on them, toes, too. But recently decided to do the acrylics again, after an 8 yr break, and I said that I would never do it again, since they can ruin your natural nails.Well, they feel weird, like you can't scratch yourself, but they look great, all the same length (not too long though),no worries about breaking and I can experiment with colors again. As far as the colors,I like to use pearly white, shimmery nude mauve, and even bright red sometimes, which is in high fashion at the season, same color on toes.I don't think french is stripperish,it's nice and you have to pay extra.$20 every 3 weeks isn't too bad, especially if you can change, apply and touch up polish yourself.

While dancing, medium length pink and white acrylics. In retirement, shorter, squared off dark nails. The new dark crimson fall colors are fantastic!

My nails are good and strong. I like shape and file down to about 1, maybe 2 mm above the top of my finger for a medium length.

I do my own french mani/pedicures at home. I guess I used to have it done so much I watched and learned.

I paint on the white tip then use a paint brush, dip it in acetone, and clean the line (takes alot of patience with a steady hand though). I like to top with a shimmer light pink and a shine top coat. Presto! I just saved myself $50 bucks!

I used to do acrylic pink and white. Now, I just go to the salon for a manicure and pedicure every 2 weeks. I keep my fingernails relatively short because they tend to peel and get really ugly fast and I have ugly hands. I have my manicurist do a shiny buff because polish--even clear--peels off my nails. My toenails, I keep them with a french pedi.

I'm blessed with naturally strong nails, so i dont actually need to get them done. I just keep mine at a medium lenth, and round the edges off, and then buff the surface into a shine with one of those 3 or 4 sided nail files (i have a collection of them!!) Why? #1 I may be a dancer, but i hate being high-maintenance and girly-girl!! #2 it saves me money #3 I figure a customer would not turn me away for having nicely cared-for natural nails as opposed to a manicure. My opinion, though.

Fake nails are definitely part of the McStripper dresscode. They haven't been in fashion for the general population in a few years now - well except maybe for the Pam Anderson wannabes. And that's a McStripper look too. Plastic. Outdated even. heh

But if you like the fakies, go for it. Some guys do still like them I reckon.

I haven't had fakes for a long time. I like the way my hands look without them, fakes get in the way of typing and they damage your natural nails too much. Very unhealthy.

I trim them short, file into a sort of rounded-square shape, keep them clean and cuticles pushed back, and apply Burt's Bees cuticle cream daily. I trim/file about once a week. Don't need polish with the Burt's Bees cream - they look nice as-is.

I do my nails my self. For my fingers I do a french manicure and for my toe I do whatever color I like that week. I always make more money when I have dark pink on my toes for some reason, lol, so I tend to stick with that a lot.

natural, with what ever color i like. i'm so sick of the french manicure. it's soooo over done. i often wonder when that became standard stripper uniform.

and whoever said no chipped nail ever was right on. i once asked a girl if she needed me to bring in some nail polish remover in for her. nasty

I don't have time to go to a salon to get my nails done, so I do a french mani/pedi myself- and I keep my nails short so it looks more neat and clean.

I have the pink/white gel french manicure nails. As long as I don't get them too long, they look nice and not strippery.
Call me outdated, but my stubby lil fingers look prettier with them. And I always get compliments on my hands.

I kinda feel the same way as Sunshine... if I don't have a french manicure, my fingers look short and stubby. I have small hands, so I think the strip of white at the tips make my fingers look longer than if my nails are painted all one color... but maybe its just me- i'm weird... lol
