    Boredom/Hobbies

That's it. I'm sick and fed up of having extra time off from work and sitting at home doing pointless shit and overeating because of it! I'm racking my brain to try and come up with activities to fill my day. Getting outside more would be nice but temps are dropping. I have a gym membership and use it, but that only consumes so much time when you have 24 hours of NOTHING!

So I guess I'm asking everyone what sort of hobbies or interests they pursue. Might give me some ideas or jump start an interest I'm not aware of yet. And I'm booked out for now, so no book suggestions.

C'mon people! What kind of wild and crazy things are you all partaking in?! What fills your day (besides full time mommies/daddies and students)?Looking for tips from the "aimlessly wandering on this earth for awhile yet" type like me!

Some hobbies I've had over the years...

    Photography
    Writing (novel, screenplay, poetry, whatever)
    Hiking
    Painting
    Candlemaking
    Soapmaking

    ...and of course, fucking.

    * Watch a lot of criminology-related TV- very educational. I also read Crime Library on the Court TV site.
    * Buy some tarot cards- the reading process is very meditative, and the art in the cards is very beautiful (I have a Universal Waite Deck). With a little study you can get accurate readings for yourself.
*New music- try to get into some new music you don't already listen to. College radio stations are good for this.
*Try new hairstyles- why not? Actually, hair can always benefit from extra care- trim split ends, condition, comb out, put in a color rinse..
*Get a pet, or pamper your pet- I know I would be very sick if not for time with my dog. I miss him terribly when I'm on the road.
    * My favorite time killer is to clean compulsively- my brother thought I was on crank when I stayed up all night scrubbing the shower. (I wasn't. I was cranky about the filthy-ass shower stall.)
    * Baking and cooking- cook food and freeze it for later consumption.

I'm a full-time mommy, but I still get some "quiet" time.

I play piano, write music, voice lessons, crochet, knit, sew, make candles, photography...

You can also take a course at the local college. I'm doing that for piano and voice lessons. It gives you something to do one day a week.

Horseback Riding, Skiing, Reading, Writing, Swimming, Jogging.... if you want an amazing escape though I highly recomend looking into riding lessons its one of the most relaxing things you can do plus it helps keep your body toned... plus the time you spend with the horse just makes you feel great horses are so sensitive and loving its one of the best feelings.
    Also sex is great

No, it isn't! Just make a meal for two. You can either save the leftovers for the next day's lunch, or have a friend over. When I was living alone I made a nice dinner every evening, and the leftovers were lunch the next day. It's an inexpensive way to eat lots more healthy, balanced meals.

Photography is probably one of the best hobbies... then once you get into photography you'll find that most of your time will be sucked in with photo editing and learning Adobe Photoshop.

Then move on to doing video and video editing work which if you get good at it, you can start your own business as a wedding videographer which pays fairly well for the amount of work you do.

Photography. I'll drive for 45 minutes to find a spot worth shooting, spend 10 minutes at it, then drive some more. It keeps you occupied, and if you enjoy the results, then Photoshop, printing, and framing take up more time yet.

Motorcycling, field sports, and hiking are not really there right now. Reading and writing is good. And sometimes, I'll go to one of them there strip bars.

I like to go to the movies during the daytime. It's cheaper and I often have the whole place to myself.

I also go ice skating quite alot. It's great excesses !

When we move to New Mexico this spring I am planning to learn to speak Spanish.

I dont have a ton of extra time but when I can I read to pass away those idle hours. Stripclubbing is fun too but I dont go as often as I used to. I have a grand-nephew who is sort of a surrogate grandkid and I enjoy spending time with him.

It's been mentioned, but photography will suck you in. It can get expensive, though. One weekend (4-day) trip to Maine cost me about $130, just to develop the film when I got home.

If it's something you think you will really enjoy, I would suggest getting a good digital SLR, and a good photo printer. Canon and Nikon are both making an 8mp SLR. I prefer the Canon because the SLR I use now is a Canon, and I won't have to buy all new lenses once I upgrade to the digital, which will be sometime after New Years.

I can remember sitting next to my camera on a tripod trying to get the perfect sunset picture of a lake in Maine. I must have sat there for an hour while the sun went down. I think I went through at least a roll of film. I sat and read, and every once in a while I'd look up and just hit the shutter release and snap the pic.

I go everywhere with a camera (except SC's, since they aren't allowed). I have a small pocket size digital that is always in a pocket, or my laptop bag, because the SLR is great, but with the size and # of lenses I have now, it becomes a little more difficult to carry around.

Actually, I like the thought of photography! I forgot I had taken some photog classes back in high school. Definately something I'm going to look into! I also like the idea of candle making. I love burning candles.

Tomorrow I'm stopping by the Humane Society and picking up a volunteer application. That's something I can start immediately and will be quite rewarding for me! Also, they only expect two hours a week out of you, which I can hack and then some, plus another "hobby".

Whilst I feel I am busy enough right now and that SW pretty much sucks alot of my 'free' time.

Learn a new skill is always good. I'm learning belly dancing right now (via a DVD I bought). Granted it is for 'work' reasons however if I am off the 'net and have some time free... it is something for me to do.

I also play games like backgammon, poker, solitare and such online via Yahoo Games.

Then there is web page/site design... that's something that will definately keep you occupied for AGES... alot to learn now days.

You could take pictures of yourself and send them to people on SW.

Something I'm looking forward to doing once I am qualified to drive my car! I've been wanting to be a shelter volunteer (yeah all that down n dirty stuff not just keeping the animals company) for AGES just that the location of the shelters make it near impossible for me to volunteer (aren't exactly on any bus routes).

My hobbies and interests include but are not restricted to - walking, cycling, reading about a whole range of subjects, writing, sewing, photography (amature!) playing bass guitar (also amature, lol!), auras, palmistry and various other related things - I want to find time next year to learn graphology, numerology, astrology and tarot reading properly and work on aura reading. I love alot of things occult related (not Wicca). Have a huge interest in extreeme alternative health and healing and learning about all the crap side of orthadox medicine. I have also taken a recent interest in crop circles and UFOs also love the bizarre, the paranormal and the stupid too. I dig history and like historic sites and haunted places. I would like to find time to take dance classes - ballet, breakdancing and bollywood tickle my fancy to start with, I also would like to try caperero and gymnastics and to study maths, science, shoe making and hypnotherapy. Punk rock is a huge factor in my life, so I mustn't forget that and my friends who i love to catch up with when the times right - and I love comedy! (-:

Video games, baby. Work out those thumbs. I like Abe's Oddysee and Sly Cooper. For winter try skating - way cheaper than skiing. Oh, and ballroom dancing - I know, it's dorky. Years ago I went with my sister and this old gay man taught the class and whenever we missed he would be like "Oh, I missed you, my little butterfly!" But it is fun. You have to do it for several hours for it to be viable exercise, though, no matter the reality tv shows say. Except for the swing - don't take ballroom swing under any circumstances. That is beyond dorky-embarrassment and into dorky-humiliation. And knitting - knitting is awesome, especially if you want a nice case of carpal tunnel. Trust me - you will never eat again. You'll be all "Just one more row, then I'll go to the bathroom. I just finish this row, and THEN go to the bathroom." Tip - learn continental. I was completely unaware that such a method existed until someone here told me, and it is way better than the English. Knitty.com and interweave.ca. And of course, there is always compulsively surfing stripperweb.

when the weather is nice, I go horseback riding.
I paint, really really poorly, but I enjoy it

mostly I sew. I started when I was a student and couldn't afford the outfits I wanted for hitting the club and gre from there into doing stuff for other people. There's even been sometimes I've made rent by sellling stuff.
It's challenging, but not too difficult (though patterning can be a bitch). and when you're done you have new clothes.

My hobbies are pretty much weight lifting, playing with my pets, and puzzles. Thre's this company out that makes these photomosaic puzzles. They're so hard, but they're so fun. Softball isn't really a hobby so much as a job. I get my tuition paid so that's my salary, and we have to put in a certain amount of hours a week. A fun job, but a job none the less.
