Default Ugh, why do I do this?

I have GOT to get out of this office.

Every Friday, we have donuts. There's never anything else for breakfast here except sugary cereal (we get bagels during the week), so every Friday I have a donut. And then I spend the rest of the day with a sick stomach and hurting teeth. I am trying to drop the last 10 pounds and I'm not doing it - because I work 13 hours a day so I never get to work out, and because I keep snacking on junk and having a donut every Friday!

The donut doesn't even taste good enough to be worth it. If it was fried cheese sticks, at least I would know it was enjoyable. But a donut just tastes okay and it isn't worth the stomach trouble or the agonizing tooth pain.

Every Friday I say I'm never going to eat another donut. And then the following Friday, I have another donut. I so need to quit working in this damn office so I can exercise and quit eating like this. Only 6 weeks to go...

Do you have anything to eat for bfast before you get to work? I would think that would help. Or maybe you get bring an apple and a bottle of water instead. I used to do this when I worked in an office and my coworkers would see me and oogle me for being so healthy. It made me feel good.

You could also reward yourself later in the day if you don't eat that donut. Like get a pedicure or buy some shoes you've been wanting. Some sort of treat. It may be expensive at first but within a couple of weeks you might break the habit.

I know how you feel... When I worked in an office they'd always bring in pizza, donuts, squares etc. I'd usually not have any but it was a stressful, fast-paced job and when I get stressed I want to eat! So after working there for 9 months I gave in once and awhile. The stress from work was so bad that I was too drained at the end of the day to go to the gym sometimes too. I ended up gaining 9lbs in 6 months. It's so damn easy to put on the weight but so friggin' hard to take it off! UGH!

Good luck and fight the power!

If you have time why not try quick oatmeal? I love this stuff...and all you need is hot water and oatmeal. Plus its cheap to eat.

Its hard working around people who have bad food all around you all the time. I big deterrant for me was looking up the caloric content of whatever I was tempted to eat. Then seeing how many calories was in it...made me not want to eat it.

That's a great idea! No donut on Friday = Pedicure on Saturday. I'm going to start that next week! Last week I skipped the donut and felt great all day. I thought of that this morning as I was looking at the donuts but then I had one anyway. I KNOW I'm going to regret it when I do it but I do it anyway! Stupid.

It doesn't help that I am the one who has to buy the donuts every Friday morning (with production's petty cash, of course!), smell them in the car all the way to work, and then put them out when I get to the office. *sigh*

Benefit of working in the film industry: Unlimited food so you never have to buy it.
Drawback to working in the film industry: Unlimited food so you always eat it.

Six more weeks, six more weeks, six more weeks.
Then no more sitting on my ever-widening ass at the computer for 13 hours a day.

We have instant oatmeal in the office kitchen (there's a ton of food back there) but it's got gobs of sugar in it. Same for the cereal - we have Froot Loops, Apple Jacks, and Corn Pops. We buy fruit once a week but it disappears quickly, mostly because I eat it. I love fruit and will eat ten pieces of fruit a day if it's sitting there. Then I bring in my own fruit from home and eat that, and by Friday there's no fruit at home and none in the office, so I eat donuts and chocolate all day.

I am a hopeless snacker. I will eat fruit and celery sticks all day long if they are there, but if not, I eat junk. And when you work 13 hours a day and drive an hour each way, the last thing you want to do at night is go to the grocery.

If it wasn't for the unlimited bottled water...!

I'm going to have to start planning for this and bring in some healthy cereal or something. Six more weeks means six more donuts and I don't want it!!! I love that pedicure idea; I'm totally going to try that.

You just have to be honest with yourself though. eat donut = no pedicure! Which would make you happier?

Zounds! Wayyyyy too much sugar! Where's the protein? You need to stabilize your blood sugar, so that you don't crave the sweet stuff. How about bringing a turkey or egg salad or tuna sandwich on some whole grain bread from home? That way, when everyone else is digging into the doughnuts, you can have a snack that will give you energy, not spike your blood sugar levels, or sabatoge your weight-loss efforts. True, you have to go to the trouble of making the sandwich yourself, but I'm sure the inconvenience would beat the guilt and hurting teeth from those damned doughnuts.

The pedicure, no question! I don't even care for donuts. It's just there.

Lunch today is a turkey patty, salad with loads of fresh veggies, and water. Gotta make up for breakfast!

Paintbaby, you're absolutely right. I get accustomed to being fed for free but it would be worth it to invest in a healthy breakfast or two for the one day a week we have donuts. Ironically, here in the office, we call it Fat Friday.

I have the same problem with the sweet stuff. It's like a drug for me--once I have a little bit, I just want more. But once I'm "clean", I can take it or leave it. I've found loading up on the protein balances things out, keeps me feeling satiated--then, I don't even think about the sugary stuff. My moods are more stable, too. Too much sugar makes me feel a bit nuts!

I have this problem at work too, but in a different way... evil vending machines! I drink lots of water and when I know there's going to be a lot of temptation around, I brush my teeth and rinse with listerine. Somehow the way mouth feels and tastes makes me not want to eat (usually stuff tastes gross right after you brush) I brush about 4-5 times a day.
ever tried odwalla or naked juice? the supergreen ones really fill you up...

Yekhefah, if you like oatmeal they make a good one know with only 1 gram of sugar. I am a big sweets person and I love it. Its quacker oats weight control. It only comes in cinnamon and bannana bread ( cinnamons the best) but its really good better than regular to me. Only had 3 fat grams and 160 calories. Try it its good.
