Default Kitty lovers, help my cat

Ugh! My cat Boo Boo is constantly licking himself. I gave him advantage so now hes flea free. Ive been giving him hairball remedy so that he can stop throwing up fur al over my house. Hes not licking one particular area. Sometimes Ill pet him and hell go back an dlick that same area. He'll do this for hours...stop then start for another session.

Hes loosing a little bit of fur and looks uneven in some spots. Hes 9 years old now too. I give him special food and everything. Hes my only man in my life so I love to make him happy.

Anyone else have a cat that does this?

Me and my cat both need to go to the doctor now. lol

I used to have a cat that did that. Spice would groom herself until she was soaking wet, then she would groom Sugar until Sugar swiped her and ran away, then Spice would come lick all over my hairline and eyebrows until I couldn't take anymore. The vet said it's obsessive-compulsive disorder. Just like OCD humans often wash and wash until their hands bleed, OCD cats wash relentlessly. I chose to live with it as it wasn't having an impact on Spice's health, but if your cat's OCD is a problem, the vet can put him on OCD meds.

My cat "bootsie" lived to be 19. She was the best! She would lick like crazy also, when she would do it, I'd give her a raw egg, or put oil over her food. She'd lick like crazy for another hour, then she'd quit. I think she was just picky about the texture of her hair, and the egg and oil helped her acheave it. Also, if you bathe her, condition her hair
If she would lick my hands(as cats are social groomers) and it got to me, I'd give her a cat toy with cat nip, then she'd mess with that till it broke.
Cats like that also like to gift, so when he brings things to you in his mouth, accept it with joy, and spend ten or so minutes giving him attention.
Also, if you give him a bath, condition his fur too, do you like the way your hair feels when its not conditioned? There is also a conditioning spray for cats, might be static electricity drives him nuts(cats with dry fur get static cling, and when they touch things w/nose, zap, funny to us, painful to them. wet fur doesn't get staticy)<<My cat had the static problem also>>

Check the vet and ask about an allergic mild reaction to Advantage (or to food), just a random possibility. Sometimes allergies just suddenly appear for no overt reason.

I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

NOTE: anything I post here, outside of a direct quote, is my opinion only, which I am entitled to. Take it for what you estimate it is worth.

Tiger, what kind of food do you feed your kitty kat? My cats used to have serious hairball reflux and were lickers also, then I switched them to Science Diet and the problem is solved. Their coats are SO shiny, pretty, and they shed very little now.

Bathing a cat, yikes!! I'd be "licking" my wounds if I tried to bathe Katya!

Get "White Lightening Hydroponic Catnip" from a specialty pet store. It looks like dank bud, but its just 'nip, which is a mint. Kitty will go insane!!

I agree with the OCD idea. Sounds like a behavioural problem of some sort, but I'd take the cat to a vet to rule out a skin disorder (is her skin red in patches?). Even if it is behavioural, there are answers to that too.

I feed him Nutro max for old cats 7+ years old. I dont give him much wet food as his digestive track is old and cant do it right anymore. I got him some hydrocotisone for cats spray so it soothes and heals his itchies.

Hes always been like this..maybe he does have OCD. Oh gosh my cat as a mental disorder. If this stuff doesnt help him then hes going to the vet. He hates shots but cant hiss loud enough to make anyone scared. lol Thanks everyone for your tips.

I've joked for a long time that my cat has OCD. He licks himself until his belly is nearly bald. And he throws up hairballs quite frequently. Seems to have gotten worse with age, as he is approx 10. He throws up about 1-2x/wk. I feed him anti-hairball formula Purina and was just about to buy him some anti-hairball medicine. The food alone is not working. I've tried to increase brushing him, bathing him, etc, and he licks and licks all day long. If you find a solution, please let us know. I'd be interested to hear it.

Might also be stress....cats groom themselves when nervous. We have this anti anxiety drop for our cats...I think it's called HomeoPet. Also an equinne company has it..something about it smells pepperminty. Put a few drops on each paw (they lick it off) and it calms em down.

My kitty grooms his belly to baldness. We joke that he's a wombat and it's his pouch. He does have a rather wombat-y face.

OCD is aggravated by stress. I have very mild, sub-clinical OCD tendencies myself -- when I was a kid it was fairly major and constant because I had a very stressful childhood. So cats who have these problems will have them more when they're stressed out for some reason.

Catnip is frequently good for mellowing the little beasties out!
