I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on staying safe as a dancer? Has anyone had any experiences that have made them feel threatned?
Thanks!

If a place has a questionable bounce staff, stay the fuck away. They will try to make excuses, such as "You walk away if anything happens, the ball is in your court." Bullshit. Men have been the physically stronger sex since the beginning of time, and the odds will be even more out of balane if you're hobbling in heels.

Martial arts and quickness usually takes care of the minor problems. A Baby Eagle 10mm usually takes care of the medium sized problems. A couple of phone calls by an old family friend from Sicily takes care of any really big problems.
Jane is right though that in a 'straight up contest', the guy is going to win every time. However, if the guy is not expecting a dancer to make a very quick and aggressive move, she can usually get away with it ... at least for long enough for a bouncer/bartender/manager to come to her aid if she begins to lose control of the situation to the guy's superior strength. But if a girl is confident that she's got 'backup' ...
The last such incident I was involved in was where a fairly young guy tried to touch my coochie repeatedly whenever I turned my back on him during a private dance. This occurred in an upscale club where that sort of shit is simply not allowed by any dancer under any circumstances. After doing two Lucy Liu impersonations, the first with 'gentle' verbal warning and the second with a 'stern' verbal warning, when the fuckstick tried it the third time I grabbed his left hand and did a leveraged pirouette off the back of the private dance couch. I wound up behind the guy, holding his left arm in a hammer lock, and marched his ass straight out the club's front door myself.
As we passed the clubowner on the way to the front door, I asked the clubowner 'do you have a problem with this?" ... he answered 'you look like you're doing just fine'. After I came back inside the club, a customer who happened to be an off-duty cop suggested that the next time I threw a customer out on the sidewalk, that I should probably be wearing something besides just 5" stilettos LOL. At any rate, every customer in the club was wonderfully well behaved for the rest of that night.
Obviously, I would never have tried something like this in a club where I could not absolutely count on the bouncers/bartenders/clubowner noticing what was happening within the first few seconds, and being ready to step in immediately if the situation took a turn for the 'worse'. Besides, this guy had me so pissed off ...

When asked if I worry for my safety I just point at my 6 to 9 inch heels and say, "they work."
Please don't lick me, it tickles..
I love Melonie's post here! There's some good threads on self-defense all over SW....do a search.
MY advice? Slap hard & run the other way. I have had plenty of wack encounters, some of which I inflamed by using my smart mouth. ("But they said to try to talk my way out of it...sigh..") Make sure you can get away with what you're going to do before you do it. Honestly though, the average pervo will not tackle/ strike a naked girl in front of a club full of people- since in SCs some men try to get away with sh*t they would never try anywhere else, they fear exposure & prosecution.
And yes, the shoes....like gypsy_girlchild said, they work.
