    Default cohesive gel breast implants

has anyone had experience with them?

I hear they are not yet approved by the FDA, but the pictures I have seen look EXTREMELY natural and almost perfect (the look I am going for -lol).

here is a link I found:

These are the implants that I want, so I hope they get FDA approved within the next year so I can get them... right now they are in clinical trials only in California ( I think) and you have to live in that state to get them so you can keep going back for the post-op appointments. Because they are only in trials, they have to keep close tabs on you so they can look for any side effects or problems with them before they are approved for general use for the public.

If everything you try is a sure thing, you aren't taking enough risks. If you never fail, you put a limit on the degree to which you can succeed. In short, the only way to win big is to risk losing

thankfully, I DO live in California, so I might be a good candidate, although they say you have to plan to live here 10 years or more. But I don't see myself wanting to leave anytime soon. I'm sure it will be approved soon.

I'm gonna do some more research and let you know what I find.

Anyone else here who actually has them?

I have cohesive gel implants and absolutely LOVE them, I highly recommend them.

They're legal in Canada (could be an option to travel for the surgery) as well as Europe and Australia. From what I am told, they are currently approved in the U.S. with some strings attached. They can be used for reconstructive surgery and as replacement implants. Apparently, you can't get cohesive gel with your first boob job but you can with your second. Wierd.

Right now there is no way of getting them in the US without being a participant in their clinical study, which takes place over a 10 year period. You can be a part of the study if you are getting the cohesive gel implants as reconstructive surgery, replacement implants, and also as first implants, from what I understand.

LittlePixie: do you happen to know if US Citizens are allowed to get cosmetic surgery in Canada easily, or are there a lot of forms to fill out. I'm not sure if there are laws limiting this. I am very interested in getting the gel implants, and if I can go to Canada to get them, I may think about doing that. I just want to know if there are any laws that would restrict this or make it very difficult for me to do this.

Since plastic surgery is private medical care in Canada, I would highly doubt there would be problems for an American to have some cosmetic surgery done. I guess the best way to find out would be to call or email some Canadian surgeons and ask directly. I would be very surprised that it would be more complicated than a regular trip.

I guess it would come down to if you can afford the extra travel and accomodations expense.

What are the advantages of the cohesive gel implants? Do they leak? Will they have to be replaced down the road? I am considering implants but am not happy with the options availabe to me now.

I have Mentor CPG's and I am extremely happy with the look and feel. They're not only available in Cali, they're all over the US in trials.

Canadian doctors are not giving US citizens cohesive implants anymore, due to some liability problem and their insurance carriers.

Colleen, check out the link posted by AlexxaHex, it answers your questions extremely well.

This is true for what's typically referred to as "regular silicone implants", but not the new cohesives. The cohesives ARE available for first time boob jobs, and you must participate in a ten year study to get them. As stated in the link posted above, this is all relative, ALL silicone implants ARE cohesive, some are just more cohesive than others. When speaking about silicone implants, it's helpful to name the manufacturer of the implants and the model that you have or want, or at least a description (some say gummy bear implants, but I like to say they are like hard-set jello, everyone has room for jello ). This helps to cut down on the confusion.

When I went for a consult in Bev. Hills through Dr. Corbin's office, they said as a first timer I can get them but would hve also had to get a mini lift on one boob at the same time in order to qualify. Odd stipulation seeing as I could barely detect any sag but they said any asymmetry they could fix by the mini-lift which would thus qualify me for silicone gel. Hopefully here in France they still operate on Americans!!! I will have to look into this.....

Yes, I read somewhere that in Cananda they are no longer giving them to US citizens. Darn.

Anyway, i'd like to replace my salines with cogels too. I didn't know that you have to get them in the state you live in, or near by?? True?

I was thinking of going to FL for a consultation for cogels.

Why can't you get silicone here for the first time? I hate that rule, so ghey.

Next week I am getting 700cc cohesive gel implants done by Dr Samaha. !!! I had to qualify for a study (by needing a lift). Mentor has up to 800cc in the high profile gels. Hope this helps.

My PS said I could get Co-gels too. He wants to put 540cc co-gel under with an interal lift.

I live in Ky, so it's definatly available in all of the US.

I've had my cohesives going on 3 years now, they're AWESOME! The brand name of mine is Silimed, my doc is Dr. Michael Fasching in Plymouth, MN (suburb of Minneapolis). I got mine as part of a 10-year study, primary cosmetic BA. If the shell should rupture, they will not leak--one of the implants my doc recieved was accidentally cut when opening the box, and the inside material did not leak out. All implants need to be replaced at some point, generally at about the 10-year mark, though it's still undetermined just how long they really "last."

If memory serves, my brand was available way up into the 800+ cc range, both round and high-profile (I have the latter). The thing to remember, since these are pre-filled implants (vs. the empty saline bag), the incision needs to be larger to allow for insertion of the implant with a minimal amount of squeezing. I had the crease incision, the scars are now teensy white lines, totally invisible in club lighting. I fool about 50% of the folks who ask, not that it's ever mattered much to me--they're gorgeous, who cares if they're implants?!

Enough about my boobs...I could talk about 'em for days straight...

A lot of those look really nice. I look at pics all the time on the net of implants and I swear at least 75% of them look like shit. If I knew mine would come out great I'd get them but I'm totally scared. Maybe by the time they are approved I'll have the money and really want them or maybe by then my breast will by saggy and I won't care!

YES I can tell from your photo that they look great!! Thanks for sharing your feedback and experiences.
Unless something really changes my mind (or it's not legally possible for some reason), I'm probably going to go with the cohesive gel (similar shape to yours in size D/DD) once I get my money saved up (or a nice loan from my friend). I'll check out the doc you mentioned, but I would ideally like to get them done in LA so that my boyfriend can take care of me post-surgery. Plus I hate traveling on planes. I don't want the stress.
Good luck to you (and your lovely tits)

I was going to get these. They are still not approved in America. The doctor I saw in dallas wanted 8k. Not every doctor can give people these implants and you will have to sign a contract saying you'll be part of a study. Or you could just go across the border. I see you're from jersey, so you'd probably want to go to canada and I have no idea what they would charge, in mexico my doctor wanted around 3500.

FTR: If people aren't supposed to start new threads and they can't bring up an old one....what are they to do? I know some people will try to give advice to the OP and not even realize the thread is 3 years old but would we rather have a new one? Genuine question.

LOL Totally old thread! I'm lactating, so I guess I'm not so concerned about implants at the moment.

I thought that was odd - I even went back to check the date too! (My computer keeps slowing up I think it must have only scrolled part way back.)
