I have been dancing for a few months now, and reading these forums even longer. From what I've seen, Christmastime brings regulars bearing gifts. Some of the older threads praise gifts like lambskin rugs, leather and suede goods, tequila with worms, etc. I'd be absolutely horrified to receive anything like this, being a vegetarian for over a decade (and a vegan for 6 years of that). I would hate to think that animals had to die for ME.
I'm a classy and polite person. I would never yell at or abuse a customer who obviously wanted to do something thoughtful and impressive. However, I don't particularly want to pretend I love a mink-trimmed coat, and encourage that customer to buy more. I know there are lots of vegs on this board (I recently read the "Anti-Fur" thread), and probably other girls who have received offensive gifts as well. I could just pass the item on to charity, but I absolutely hate thinking that someone made money using an animal this way.
I would really like to have dancers who have been in similar situations to help me out. I would especially love to have custies advise me on ways to tastefully decline a gift (if that's even possible) without hurting feelings. How can I be a friendly fantasy girl without giving up a crucial part of who I am?
