    Default A hopefully-non-offensive question

So I went to a club (as a designated driver, not auditioning)...but, well, I ended up being offered a job dancing. I stuck around for the night and observed, talked to people...it seems like a decent place, and the dancers I talked to (albeit briefly) like it there. Blah blah blah, anyway...I think I'm going to do it.

I don't have a problem with the whole dancing-naked-for-men/money thing, but there's one thing that has me kind of uneasy.

I'm not sure if it's just me being paranoid (which is one of my usual faults!) or if it's really something to be worried about...STD's. And the likelihood of contracting some kind of disease from a customer. The club I was at isn't a dive (security is good, doesn't seem to be an "extras" club--and I certainly don't plan to be an "extras" dancer regardless. ) But still...what is the chance? It's not like I'm going to be jerking customers off, but for instance, what if I'm giving an LD and he ejaculates? Am I at risk of getting something nasty if he has it?

If there is a risk, what do you do to keep safe and minimize the risk?

Please don't flame; we were all new once, and I would really just appreciate some info/opinions/perspective.

Slim to none. When giving a LD you use a small booty towel you put on the custys lap. Plus you shouldnt be grinding enough that you can risk that. Also baby wipes are your best friend, wipe yourself after every dance, wash your hands often.
    Btw - congrats.

If you're not dancing nude on customers and the other girls aren't rubbing themselves all over the pole, you should be OK.You can contract STD's from a pole and customers if the club is nude and the other girls are all over the pole and the guys. There are classy nude clubs where the girls don't rub all over the guys. The pole however,is fair game.If a dancer has warts or something else and has put her naked vagina on it while doing a pole trick, then you can catch it too.

Good point OTB I forgot about the pole. The club im at every girl wipes down the pole with a disinfectant rag before using it. I recomend this. Also stage work, if your going ot be on the floor, use a blanket. As long as your very careful and keep yourself clean shouldnt be a problem. As i said, baby wipes are your best friend
Then again if you want to be like that, avoid public washrooms, public transit, door handles, money, grocery shopping.. anything anyone else could touch. Keep your hands and kitty clean

non-existant. Despite penthouse letters, guys don't have that much cum. As long as they keep their pants on, you'll be fine. Statistically you are more likely to get Hep from borrowing tweezers or nail clippers from another girl than getting anything from a customer. Unless you borrow HIS tweezers.

    So true Jenny!

You have more chances getting Hep B from an ice cube in your drink.

I think as long as you don't let a customer lick you (kitty) because of herpes...you are pretty much safe.Just got to use common sense!!!

Congrats on the job!!!! Best of Luck!

if you kiss the custies, or your bf, or your grandmother, or santa, on the lips, you can get herpes. and if you touch your lips and then touch your kitty, or let someone with a cold sore eat you out, you can transfer it to the genital area. but other than that, i'm not sure that there's actually a big risk at all.

^I wasn't aware that the Herpes Simplex virus could be transferred to one's own genitals. Is this only if you have an outbreak?

When I'm giving a lap dance and am sitting on his lap or grinding, I will only use my butt cheek, not by crotch, in case he gets too "excited." It's a slim chance that anything would go through his pants, but I don't like the idea of my crotch touching him anyways.

I'm fairly sure all forms of herpes are more likely to transfer with an outbreak, but are possible without. However, the herpes virus is less of a big deal than a lot of people make it out to be. Anti-sex panic has made it into this big thing -- a lot of people who harbor the virus don't actually have any symptoms, or maybe a few times in their life, and just don't know about it. How many people? We don't know for sure, because the amount of actual medical research on the topic is small. I've heard it's like 25-70% of everyone, though -- much like HPV.

Found all this out because I had a small cut in a sensitive area and got paranoid.

I learned a bit about this when I was researching birth control methods...though that was a while ago, so I don't know if my info is current. From what I understand, the best estimates are that 1 in 4 or 5 people have genital herpes, and as many as 80% are thought to carry the oral virus. You can get genital herpes through oral contact from someone who has the oral virus, and vice versa. I think the statistics were less concrete than usual because they're including people who are currently just "harboring" the virus...apparently it can be in someone's system for up to 10 years before it causes symptoms, and I don't think it shows up on tests during that time, so there's really no way to know if you have it or not (that scares the crap outta me! even if your partner completely believes that they're clean, they could give it to you because they never knew they had it )The virus is most likely to be spread during an outbreak, but there is a period of a few days before the outbreak starts where the virus is "shedding" and can also be spread easily...and since there aren't any symptoms at that point, and no one knows when they're going to have an outbreak, there isn't any way to know when they're more contagious. And, the very worst part is that once you have it, you can NEVER get rid of it...it stays in your system forever.

I need to stop thinking about this before I work myself into an "anti-sex panic" ...

    Well, to be technical,

"oral herpes" is a type of the virus which you can have on your lips or on your genitals.

    Likewise "genital herpes".

For the percentages, they can either mean location or virus type, and I'm guessing virus type but I'm not sure.

Here's the thing. We humans harbor all kinds of minor bugs that don't really show symptoms. Just look up "toxoplasma parasite" -- if you've ever been scratched by a cat or dog, you probably have it. It can be dangerous under some circumstances but not usually. There was a big panic over it a few years ago, but not that big of a panic.

Why? Because it's not spread by sex!

People like to make sex sound more dangerous than it is. Ignorance and hysteria are powerful tools of religious or government control.

As far as virus type goes, I think you can get both kinds (herpes simplex 1 and 2, I think they're called) either orally or genitally, but I'm not sure.

I know you can't get too worked up over medical concerns...if you were always thinking about the germs on everything, you'd have to walk around in a hazmat suit 24/7 . It's just that the idea of herpes squicks me out to the max...I mean, outbreaks of communicable sores on your kitty for the rest of your life?! That sounds like one of the worst things ever .

Honestly, I think its highly unlikely for you to catch an std..... well unless you are performing extras, which i highly doubt you are... as long as your wiping down the pole, watching how you sit and sanatizing your hands when needed than you're fine... i've been dancing on and off for about two years and the thought of stds at work has never really crept into my mind.... Trust me, you'll be fine

damn, I have cold sores (oral) already...never thought about the fact that I could inadvertently give it to myself down there.

Hey I really doubt you can catch anything from working at a club inless it's some sexual intercorse you're getting into. You need not worry too much just make sure you use towels & sanitize the poles like the others mentioned. On the herpes issue truthfully everyone has some form of herpes within their body it just depends on how much you have that can make you worry. Herpes can be a cold, sore, or fever blisters and true you can pass it to someone else easily but that kind isn't as serious. I've never heard that a person can get genital herpes from touching your lip and then your genitalia That's something I'll have to ask my doctor. I'm so conscience of my body I worry about a lot of things but you can't live life based on fear.

you can also get herpes in the back of the throat, or in your eyes. the herpes strain considered to be "genital herpes" is generally more vicious, though you can get genital or oral herpes in any region that can be infected by herpes. occular herpes with the genital strain is the absolute worst, in my opinion.... just imagine it.... *(~shudders~)*

^^^ No, Paul, they don't usually. Unless they suffer from premature ejaculation, or have the hormones of a 17 year old, usually the public nature of the strip club is too distracting to the guys.

To the OP, don't worry about getting std's unless you have a low immune system. By the very nature of std's they are so difficult to catch that only the most intimate contact would get the job done. But if you have a low immune system then it is more likely to happen.

I think more dancers have had their drinks spiked then have ever gotten an std at work.
