    Default ideal club...

i'm sure this has happened several times but I'm not familiar with any... but why don't dancers band today and start their only club so they make the rules and aren't dictated to by management?

anyway, wanted to start a new thread about ideal club environment... for dancers and customers...

I'll kick it off with a few on the customer side of things:

1.) no dj: this dickhead can be replaced with a red LED readout on stage of the current dancer!
2.) dancers choose their own music: I'm sure this is pretty standard already
    3.) smoking/non-smoking area: just a crazy thought...

    someone keep this going...

Why no DJ? I wouldn't want to dance at a club with no DJ.

I'd like it if they got rid of the house fee entirely and just took a portion of the dances. They're making plenty of money off cover charges, drinks, etc. and if they weren't charging house fees, they'd be more motivated to help us sell dances and keep the riff-raff out. Some clubs already do this but it isn't the standard in L.A.

I like how my club is run. There are no house fees, we just pay $2 for the music every time we go on stage. Lap dances are $20 and we keep half, and we get money for every drink we sell. We get bonuses if we sell a certain number of drinks and lap dances during the week.

Well, because different dancers have different ideals on what "the rules" should be. Also in most locales here in the US, you just can't go and start up a strip club whenever and whereever you please. There are zoning and other legal matters that have to be attended to that have nothing to do with management.

    Been there, done that...

Standard yes, but not always a good idea. Case in point...

DANCERS SHOULD NOT CHOOSE THEIR MUSIC.

I love my DJs. They do whatever it takes to keep the white collar crowd happy. But white collars are sad and pissy when they hear 50 Cent. As they tend to be 35+, they want to hear 70s rock with an occasional Live or Eminem. For fun, some trance and techno is thrown in because they like it although they won't admit it. Older white collars spend like mad and are well behaved. They won't break tables.

The music help keep them in the club. Seriously.

So what happened a DJ not play your request?
Like it or not we DJ's are a neccessary evil.

I disagree. Dancers should choose their music, WITH the help of a DJ if they need it and WITH consideration for the audience. I tailor my music to my crowd but I can't dance to something I've never heard before. And left to themselves, a lot of DJ's will play whatever *they* like or something wildly inappropriate for a particular dancer. The problem is the few dancers who just play whatever they want and don't care about the crowd.

I'm on the dancers-should-choose-their-music side. Why?

Because I'm very good in the small-club environment at picking the right stuff for the people who come in & it's a part of my hustle.

Dancers who do not choose the right music for their crowd will in the long run make less money than me. Do I care? I mean, if EVERYONE has bad taste and it's a large club, that's problematic.

In certain environments (i.e. the big roaring nightclub show I did with Paris last week!) I have no idea how to go for the crowd's tastes because I don't know country (or rap) music from my left sock. :-) But in the clubs I will be working in every week, I can play to the classic rock, goth music, metal and 80's rock crowds. And that covers a pretty wide spectrum, so I'd like to keep the ability to do that. I LOVE the moments when I play a song on instinct and a man at the stage starts lip-synching or outright singing while staring rapturously at my assorted body parts. It shows in my dancing, and it leads to large stage tips and private dances. You know the drill.

Why would I want to give up something that makes the crowd like me better?

    ---

Verfolgung: #6 on your list is quickly becoming a hard line for me as far as clubs I'll work in on a regular basis. I already have a little trouble making out voices (hearing is fine, brain parsing is a little easily confused) and at loud club noise level I need flash cards. Mmm, flash cards, how sexy.

    Following verfolgung's comments:
I like all of them... talk about thorough! I would say that #5 and #9 might be a little costly... and who would set it up and keep it updated, etc...
I agree with #2... cover charge would keep the riff-raff out... $5 seems reasonable

oh, and I still stand by 86ing the DJ... I realize, though, in reading the comments that this differs widely regionally... plus I tend to stay away from larger clubs... I gravitate to intimate clubs where there's more of a connection with the dancer... and if she's picking the songs and you happen to dig those very songs... then you're more than likely to snag a pd... seems to make sense...

but I agree that with bigger clubs where hair metal and horrible, horrible music is de rigeur... then sure, go with the obnoxious dj... but mr. dj man... can you please take it down a notch? just a notch... please.

I really don't like #5, but #9 is easy enough. Have a laptop or desktop with songs in the drive in the room. When the girl goes in there, have her click on a song. And if you make all of them slow sexy songs (Marvin Gay, BB King, Luthur, etc..), it doesn't matter which one it is.

I still hate that idea though. I love my DJ (the head DJ anyway) and I wouldn't do as well on any given night if it was not for him. Yes us girls are the main attraction, but he is our ringmaster so to speak. CB (our DJ), gets the crowd "pumped", he keeps them there, and he also has an uncanny sense of timing, and what the crowd wants to hear. He can read a crowd as well as any of our "top girls".

I would change only a very few things at my club, but for the most part it is perfect.

I like my djs they find new songs they think I'd like and collaborate with me. Also they say all sorts of cute stuff over the mic when you come up so then customers become intrigued...

This is the only suggestion I disagree with. With a liqour license, it would be near immpossible to allow a byob atmosphere, and without a license...the "handling fee" for byob could get outrageous.

    1) A good DJ knows how to read a crowd, they won't play 50cent in da club if its a middle-aged white crowd, that's more the Bob Seger/Queen crowd
    2) A good DJ will have the girls pick their music, or at least have a list of what a particular dancer likes. For instance, I have thechaosfairy on stage while there are 15 guys in their mid 30's at the stage with longer hair.. most likely they are going to want to hear pantara, queensryche, etc.. before her set I would have gone up and asked her what she wanted to hear, and played it if possible. If it wasn't possible I would play something as close to what she wanted as I could...
    3) I agree that the volume needs to be turned down a bit, but the DJ also has management and the owner telling him what to do..how loud to have the music, what kind of music can be played etc. They also tell us to announce drink specials, give-aways etc.
We may seem obnoxious to you, but we have a job to perform, and any Dj who is worth his salt will make your experience more enjoyable... it's the ones who don't know how to do their job that ruin the night for all of us.

Okay Im working at one of the most ideal clubs right now IMO.
The DJ lets the girls pick their music but he will recomend what should be played based on the customers in the club. For example, I dance to rock music only, I have had days I wanted to do dance but he pointed out that most girls dance to dance music, why dont I stay with rock and stand out a little more. He wont let the same song be played twice unless there has been 3 -4 hours between, therefor no song is overplayed in a night. He says just enough about the girls on stage, but not to much. The only thing that bugs me is he mumbles into the mic and can be a bit of a prick. I deal with my DJ a lot through the night, the DJ booth is off the dressing room, and he deals with our scheduals and member fees( $1 a shift so you can smoke).

The girls can drink through the night, they are encouraged to order drinks if a customer wants to buy for us, and we have set fake drinks that arnt over priced.

If you are on schedual you are paid $50 a shift.

If you freelance its a $20 floor fee.

There are no other fees through the night, the only person that expects tips are the DJ's and its only recomended, not enforced.

I would like to have a house mom, but thats no biggie.

Tanning bed in club... we have one for the girls, I love it. Its a stand up one and it gives a very nice even tan.

We have assigned lockers and lockers avaliable for freelancers, if there isnt enough the DJ will watch your stuff.

The management is great, staff are friendly. I think the club is ideal and h ow a club should be run. Champagne rooms are $200 a half hour, dancer gets $150 of it and strawberries and whipped cream

Anyone who says ditch the DJ... I dont think so, the DJ is a huge help IMO and can really help sell a girl. If the DJ is good he is well worth keeping

Cally, I can see now that even though you were flirting with me in Chat and got me all hot and bothered, your heart (and other important parts of your anatomy) belong to Blade. I think I will now chug my last beer, sadly walk towards the river and jump off the dock.
