~ my very own pole dancer!

I'm assuming you only get to see this in Vegas only?

Nope, there is burlesque all over the country. I've done it in Austin and Paris Love does it in Oregon. There are troupes all over. You're in NYC, right? There is a ton of stuff there.

Ohh, i've never heard of this before. Wow, lol.
Yeah, i'm close to NYC.![]()
ooo, & it looks like fun.

I have read on here that the ladies incorporate humor into their shows. Any examples of ways to do this? I have been curious. Thanks
I have a grandma costume that I made. I have huge saggy boobs that bounce and sway, an enormous butt, and a huge furry gray patch of pubic hair under my granny dress. Strip down to a sexy cupless corset and thong, with pasties. It is funny because the crowd will see what they think they are supposed to see.
I will enter the stage walking very stiff, I try to purse my lips together to make them look very thin, and I wear a big pair of glasses. It is funny and gross. When I lift my dress to reveal my fur patch, most of the time the crowd makes a noise of revultion, and then they cheer and applaud for more. I know a male dancer who does something similar, but he guzzels from a container marked "Viagra" and then faces the crowd with a huge tent in his pants. Funny stuff!
Burlesque is sexy and silly. It has recently been pushed more into the spot light by the Pussycat Dolls, and their appearence in Charlie's Angels- Full Throttle. Also Dita Von Teese has been grabbing headlines as well. Also in the movie Moulin Rouge, the character played by Nicole Kidman was a burlesque performer.

This is what I recall...a slow tease usually involving slow disrobing, just short of nudity and then disappearing behind some object that is part of the show (fan dancer, bubble dancer, the stage curtain) . It was a show, no tipping usually as the audience was separated from the stage. Often the headliner stars (dancers) acted in funny skits. It was derived from vaudeville and often acts of that type would be included. The phrases "top banana" "stripping" came from that entertainment venue.
Performers such as...
Gypsy Rose Lee
Tempest Storm
I saw one a long time age. Didn't know it still exists. Paris convinced me. You just don't see that around here anymore. The gals just don't even know what it was.
Now it is just spread in your face, pass up the bucks. And not much humor, unless you get some table time with a conversationalist. But I like the explicitness we get now.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

I have developed a style I call Neo-burlesque. It combines the class and humor of a traditional burlesque show with driving techno beats, high energy dance moves and modern stage tricks like using the smoke machine. We also do simple stage skits set to music and using props. A couple I know who performs together made a cool stage prop of a back lit screen with ribbon strung across to make it look like jail bars when back lit. He dances behind the screen, and she dances in front, while stripping out of her clothes. The point of the skit is that the woman is lusting for her jail bird boyfriend. Really cool show, if you ask me.
I am thinking of offering burlesque training to dancers. I will post a poll in another thread to see what you guys think.

I would like to do it, just to say I did it. lol![]()

Paris, I am right there with you. Want to start looking for studio space?![]()
Hehehe- I've already started!! I have been talking to my health club as they have no aerobics classes in the afternoons, and will allow people to use their group fitness studio for a fee! A Karate instructor is already using it for classes several nights a week, and the students don't have to be gym members.
I also get calls from women who are throwing bachelorette parties, and would like a stripper to come to the party and teach the ladies how to Strip-for-your-man type of lessons. I think we could charge at least what a male stripper would get paid to come and do the party. And some would hire both!
Girl, we need to put our heads together and get this thing off the ground. We are in the perfect geological location for this kind of show.

Seems to me that a bit of humor in a strip club can make everyone a little more comfortable. And probably more confident and sexier. Like this... I tell a decent joke (not always about sex). The dancer genuinely laughs, and we just shared something mutually enjoyable. Makes me feel just a little closer to her, maybe mutually, so we head out back to the room. At least I know she listened to something I said and is not just phoning in.
