I live in Wisconsin, where it can get very snowy, and last Saturday it was Extremely snowy. After work, one of the girls was leaving, and she assured us that she was ok to drive, and would call one of us when she got home to let us know she got there safely. We were all worried, because she had been drinking (although not a lot) and she lived about 45 minutes away. We had gotten about 4 inches of snow by the time she left, and it was still snowing. So she left, and ended up sliding into a ditch on the Interstate and 2 tires on her car popped off and the front end of her car was totally smashed. She had to call 911 to come help her, and when the police got there they ended up giving her a breathalizer test because it was past 3 in the morning and they wanted to see if she had been drinking. While she blew a .09 and the legal limit here in Wisconsin is .08. So she ended up getting a DUI. She's very lucky that she only slid into a ditch, and not into another car, and she's lucky that she wasn't hurt at all. She has hundreds of dollars in fines, and probably thousands of dollars in car repairs, but this could have been so much worse.
Girls, if you have been drinking and have any doubt about making it home, dont drive. We all tried to convince her to stay in town overnight or take a cab home, but she didn't want to pay for a hotel or an expensive cab ride out of town. What could have cost her less than $100 for a hotel or cab ride is now costing her thousands. If you have any doubt, especially in bad weather, it's better to be safe than sorry. My friend was legally intoxicated, by our state's standards, but when she left the club she wasn't slurring her speach or staggering around-she was fine. If the weather was good, she most likely would have made it home safe, but because of the bad weather causing her to slide into a ditch, she now has a DUI permanently on her driving record, and tons of fines to pay.
Just please be safe when you are driving, especially in bad weather, and if you have any doubts, stay overnight in the city you are working in.
