What do you do for cardio and building muscle without having to go to the gym?

I have a large master bedroom and we have an elliptical trainer for cardio and a bowflex (which folds up) for strength training.

My daughter is moving out on her own soon, so we're going to keep her bed in there for when she comes home, but put the machines in there and actually have a home gym.

Ellipticals are great! The one I have is like the one at the gym, with all the monitors and some preprogrammed workouts in it. It cost me like $250.00 new but I'm sure you can find them used in your local paper or on Ebay. The bowflex was a present from Mommy and Daddy.

I take long very brisk walks. I like to do it first thing in the morning but will settle for the evening. And I just got a pole for the house; I'm looking forward to building up my arm and ab strength on that, and getting in a little cardio with some vigorous dancing too. What the hell, it's just more fun!

I agree. Getting myself in the exotic dance zone infront of my mirror is the best cardio for me. I am getting my pole over xmas break i can not wait!
Another thing i sometimes do is put the sample workout videos from my cable station on... they have l5-20 min pilates.... cardio... blah blah.
I lift weights with the music on too , although i have been slacking!
Basically music and dancing is my source of cardio though.

    run!

no singular cardio better for staying slim and keeping your legs hot

I always get compliments on my legs, and I'm borderline fanatical about running and cycling

I have a freeweight set that I bought from Walmart, as well as a bench. For my legs I do sumo squats w/15 lbs, lunges w/20 lbs, floor work-outs, and squats w/20 lbs using an exercize ball on my back against the wall for support. For my arms I do various exercises with my adjustable bench and weights. I recently bought an Schwinn elliptical for cardio. The quality is nowhere near the precors at the gym though. Most home ellipticals lack a ramp in the front and are attached to a circle thing instead. It's not as smooth as the gym or as easy on the knees, but it didn't cost me $2600 either. I used to do workout videos for cardio also.

use a stationary bike, the gazelle, free weights(1, 3, 5, and 10 pounders), step aerobics(w/video or just music) rubber bands, and I have about 50 different videos that I use one of every weekday, and sometimes the weekend also. I've used the slim in 6 beach body program with their elastic bands, works WONDERS for arm tone and uper back. I also do squats and pliets while doing the dishes and picking up laundry, and crap on floor.
I have been known to run up and down both flights of stairs in my home for an hour or so as well.
I'm looking into a pole, but think I might make my own instead of getting the mynx.
Then theres dancing around the house like a loon in my platforms.
I do lots, makes me feel good. I like to go till I get the little electric shocks going im my thighs. I guess I'm weird for exercise. Oh-well, its a good thing to be weird about

I heard that Jennifer Lopez maintains her ass by wrapping her arms around a heavy ball the size of a basketball and holding it to her chest, while she runs up and down a staircase for half an hour. She does this every day. Seems to work beautifully for those thighs and glutes.
