Absolutely! Burlesque is a dying form of art and entertainment and I would love to learn and continue the tradition!

It's wonderful that you can and possibly will accept forgeiners into the school. This allows me to, at least, keep the possibility of joining this as a real possibility. I'm part of one revue show definately as we speak... I'm working on my solo performance.

Since its theme is Arabian Princess I'm incorporating cymbals (zills) and veils into the performance.... so I will have some skills already and possibly a show too... I would love to travel to the US to do burlesque and perform for a set amount of time.

Ah.. yes... that is another concern. If you do take foreign dancers on (ie like myself), would what would YOU require of them in particular? Would you give them accommodation and/or help out with accommodation expenses in exchance for not just attending the school but also "putting in" X amount of performances ??

Personally, whilst I would LOVE to be able to be part of such a school and do performances through-out the US or where-ever coz it would be an incredible experience in and of itself... I would advise for you to keep it local or within your own country before you take on any foreign students. Plus if you did take on foreign students for the school, I would recommend only taking on one or two from 'outside' the USA (be it Canada, UK, Australia or where-ever) for a set period of time before releasing that student and making the 'spot' available.

AWESOME! I've done a little bit of burlesque before and LOVE it. I'd do this in a flash. Please keep us posted.

The only burlesque school I know of is in San Francisco. Seems to be more popular on the west coast for some reason.

Paris, I would love to do this. I have an extensive theater background and have always felt like I'd be a natural at burlesque. I have wanted to start my own company for some time. Please keep me informed about where and when.

I've begun working on lesson plans for the school, and I already have a business plan for the dance company. I think I will take on 7 students for the first session. I am back burnering (is that a word?) the project until after Christmas/New Years. I will be back at it again the first week of January looking for a location to hold the school, and rehersals. We should be ready to go by mid February. I'll keep everyone posted on the progress.

    XOXOXXX Paris Love

Well, I have a potential location for the school. I was offered the use of a strip club on Sunday afternoons. I have to put on Feature Stage shows in exchange for the use of the club to teach burlesque and rehearse the shows.

If you would like to be on a newletter mailing list please contact me at [email protected]. I should have a web page up for the burlesque review by the end of this week!

Oh, I think the club also agreed to let me do this as a recruiting opportunity. So if you are looking at travel, the club will talk with the dancers about putting them on the schedule.

This is something I'd definitely be interested in, and could possibly swing the travel...but since I live a couple states away, I wouldn't be able to do the 5 shows, unless it was like 4 or five shows in surrounding cities, like Thursday and Friday= Portland, matinee Saturday and Saturday Night Eugene, Sunday Matinee and Sunday Night= somewhere else.
If it was like a two week intensive class ( I don't know how long the classes were going to be) and then it culminated in a half week or week of shows, yes--but otherwise it's probably too spread out for me.

But keep us posted. There's definitely more leeway during the summer when a lot of clubs are crap anyways, and I have to be in Portland in early August anyways.

If SW2006 was around that area around that time, that would probably draw more girls in too plus men to see the shows

So I answered the poll before reading the rest of the question. For that deal, I'd definitely go for it. I love the stage and enjoy doing shows much more than the same-ol' same-ol' grind

Okay, here is some info to get the feel of burlesque.
    http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZpaperport519QQhtZ-1
    http://www.speakcarmenese.com/pcat.html
    http://suicidegirls.com/live/
    http://www.musicals101.com/burlesque.htm
    http://www.bigburlesque.com/
    http://www.theatomicbombshells.net/

That should keep you busy reading for a while.
The show I am putting together also incorporates male dancers, whereas most of the shows that I could find were female only. I like the female only shows, but adding a male element really ramps up the titilation factor and makes the shows more appealing to both genders.

I've been sitting here working on my website all day, and should have something rudimentary up by later tomorrow.

Ladies feel free to PM me or email me at [email protected] for more info.

    XOXO Paris Love

Paris, for those who might be traveling to enroll in the school, how much of a time commitment would the training and performances take?
