    Default Inspiration and Artistry

As an artist ( a painter, to be exact ) I have found my inspiration in images of strong, sexual, independant and fierce women. These are the things that move me in my choice of subject matter, and is also the way in which I try to go about being in the world.

When I go to a SC, I am blown away by the beauty, athleticism, and power the dancers display. I find the energy exuded by a proud and beautiful dancer to be a truly mezmerizing and inspirational thing. As an artist, I appreciate the hard work and preparation it takes to make it all look so effortless.

What inspires you as a dancer? Do you think of it as merely a job, or do you consider your dancing to be an important part of your artistic expression as well? A bit more one than the other, perhaps? Do you enjoy any other types of artistic pursuits?

Some clubs encourage self-expression more than others. That being said, I am very athletic so I dance very aggressively....I want to communicate strength.
In an artistic-inspiration sense, I love the work of Patrick Nagel- he did seriographs of female models that were insanely popular in the Eighties (he died in 1984.) YEAH, I had a converstation recently with a photopgrapher about how Nagel's work is a bad investment, too tacky, etc....but he portrayed women in a cool, objective way.. the sexuality in his work is very cold. In fact, "Grey Lady" sells for several thousand today, and it's very popular- obviously, Nagel did something right. He is also fondly remembered as an all-around great guy, which cannot be said of Pollock or Picasso...LOL
Sadly, I think as the stripping industry shrinks, artistry will be funnelled into burlesque theater & the SCs will become more "show clubby" and things will get less creative. But oh well, it seems par for the course.

As a fellow artist I have to agree that strong women are a favorite subject of mine (i'll attach a few and toss in a link: www.theartofsilena.net ). Painting, etc, is a huge part of my life.

I would certainly say that dancing is, to a degree, a creative outlet. I also model (preferably artistic nudes) which I find to be liberating in that i'm not creating per se, but allowing someone to use me to create... sort of like being someone else's paint.

Dancing is my art. Well, one of them. Its how I vent and create and express. It isnt my bill-paying job. It isnt my 9 to 5. Its my art.

I really like your work, Sirona! Very nice use of lines--very flowing, especially on the last piece of the thumbnails.

    Hey thanks!

The art thing runs in the family... My dad, brother and one sister are all artists also. We've all had gallery shows, been published and or sold work. Gotta love hippie families!

You're lucky! I'm the odd one out in my family---they are all a pretty conservative-minded corporate bunch. I've really had to fight to get their respect and understanding for what I do, but each show or gallery involvement I have seems to help them "get it" a bit more...That, and the fact I refuse to do anything else, because this is who I am, not just what I do. Still, they have been supportive, and helped me get to where I am, so I'm actually very fortunate.
