    Seeking your opinion

I am forever 'hungry' for information to feed myself in re: my financial literacy. The reason I am posting this is because I am seeking your opinion on whether or not you personally think that my next purchase (I'm currently saving up for it) will be worth purchasing or is highly over-rated (use the money in another way)???

The publisher is called Trident Press. I can trust them as I have purchased their books in the past (and subsequently sold them via ebay once I felt I was was 'done' with the book). What I'm looking at purchasing is called The Ultimate Wealth, Privacy and Freedom Library (on CD).

It'll cost me $799AUD with free postage.

My advice is to do major research about the book first. Find out how effective it is through other sources. Electronic databases are good to dig up information about companies. Hoovers is a great one. I'm not sure if you need to have a membership though to use it. I used it when doing college research. I'm sure you could call your local library and they can suggest a good source.

My personal opinion is--I would probablly never spend that much on a book. Mainly because they are outdated so quickly. For that price, it should be an online library that allows a two year subscription.

Another option, you can research each and every one of these topics through the library. You can find a book on each one of those topics and check it out for free. I looked at the site--well written marketing. It appears to be several books compiled into one CD format. It's really whether or not the author is using legitimate sources for information and whether or not it's easier and affordable for you to just conveniently buy this information. The one thing that is appealing is the fact that it's all on CD. You can find the information quickly and easily at your convenience.

Please re-read my original post. It is for a library of eBooks. You may want to click on the link I provided in the original post or ( here ) for more information about this library of books. As you will see, I will automatically receive updates of any or all of the books up until 2007.

Please make sure you have read through my entire post as well as clicked on any links I included within the post before reply-ing. You would've seen that I'm refer-ing to a LIBRARY of books not one book itself.

Goodness, I wouldn't pay that price for one book ever!!

Ahh... I can stead fastly assure you that his sources of information are legitmate. He's an investor himself. This is far from a scam. As per my original post, I have already read (been exposed to) a few of his books and they are full of quality information that can be used by anyone (esp. Australians).

As for the library, that is a little inconvienant to me. There isn't one that is within walking distance to me therefore I would have to make a special trip to visit it. I actually havn't been inside that particular library for nearly a year due to not being able to set aside enough time to visit it.

    GCG,
Since all adds are 99% hype, I have no way of knowing if this is any good or not. Even though they send up dates one a quarter (for 2 years) there is too much that changes in three months to be operating on 3 month old info (actually it is close to 4-5 since it takes time to put things together).

For myself, I would not spend this kind of money for a pig in a poke (sight unseen for GCG's benefit).

like Monty, I'm a bit skeptical about paying 'large' amounts of money for published investment advice in any form. In the final analysis, there are hundreds of such subscription investment advice services out there - some are 90% right, some are 90% wrong, most are right more than half the time, and a service that was 90% right last month may be 90% wrong next month !

I'm even more skeptical about paying 'large' amounts of money for information which is available via research in the public domain, or which is easily available via a subscription database at a much lower price. This is a judgement call of course - it may be that Austrailian tax info is much harder to come by than US info such that having all the info collated in one place is 'worth it'.

GCG, I did look at your link before I posted. It says that it is the "Ultimate Library of eBooks" on one convenient CD ROM. If this is not what you are reading in the ad, then Internet Explorer must be redirecting your link to a different page. This is the exact link that comes up when I click http://www.tridentpress.com.au/category79_1.htm

I didn't mean to suggest this person or company was a scam. I just mean a lot of people write a lot of things and not all sources are created equal. Especially with the eBook boom. They're so easy to publish since they cost almost nothing--anyone can write an eBook and publish it.

But I think if you like the author and you feel confident in your purchase, that's all that matters.

Without sounding patronising you seem very savvy on financial matters. Most investment books cater to people with bad saving and investment habits. If you really enjoy financial learning, look at doing a course which could add up to a formal qualification. You may not learn as much but it is those little pieces of paper that often get us people in the outside world breaks to do things that we love as a job.

You should check if what your are seeking is held in some of the libraries like Melbourne Uni Business School and RMIT Business. These libraries interconnect up to all the Uni libraries. A hard copy law/ engineering book can cost from $500 - $1500 but you will often find that a copy has been donated to one of the Uni libraries and can be obtained on an inter-library loan. Some DVD series and online accounts for legal info can cost in excess of $1000 per annum.. nevertheless you can access these for free at these libraries.

A bit off the topic but... anyways thats my opinion.
