I think it is worth going. It is a little complicated. The two main things I despised was portraying the CIA as a group of assassins who will turn on each other and that the bombers are simply poor people (when almost all the bombers have been shown to be college educated in the real world.)

I do believe it is thought provoking though.

I saw it this past weekend. I also just happened to catch an interview with the director as well on Charlie Rose. The interview was VERY interesting as he spoke about his research experience for this film.

If you thought the movie Traffic was a good film then go see Syriana.

Many of the film's allusions to behind-the-scenes international finance re middle eastern oil money appear to be somewhat on the right track. However, IMHO at least, much of the 'hollywood stereotype' portrayal of corporate board rooms, the CIA, and the 'bombers' was far less than factual ... i.e. I was looking for Michael Moore's name in the credits.

Regardless of the 'hollywood stereotypes' included in the film, as Deogol says the film does indeed raise an extremely worthwhile point ... that most of the western world is absolutely addicted to 'cheap' energy, that increasing the price of energy to 3-5-10 times current levels would have PROFOUND negative effects on the standard of living of most westerners, and that if faced with widespread domestic unrest by citizens facing the choice of eating or staying warm in the winter some politicians might resort to extreme measures to attempt to stabilize the situation.

Thank you to all of you for your advice! And I did enjoy "Traffic." I'll be going to see both "Syriana" and "Walk the Line" whenever I can work them into my schedule. As to 'hollywood stereotypes,' I was raised about five miles away from Hollywood for the first 20 years of my life-I'm pretty used to the 'smoke & mirrors' stereotypes because of that. Thanks again, everyone!

When you see "Walk the Line," give a shoutout to my hometown! I haven't seen it yet (warning: I heard it sucks) but they filmed it in my hometown and I know a lot of people who worked on it. As for "Syriana"... my bf saw it and loved it, but he also loves "Traffic," which in my humble opinion is the worst movie ever made. Ed Wood would have been horribly ashamed of it.
