Default ? 4 hair color experts

After reading about so many girls doing their own hair color at home--thought I would give it a try. My hair has been color weaved professional for a long time. I tried the Garnier Nutrisse brand to lighten. It is now kind of strawberry blonde (not the orange effect) with high lights. I don't really like the strawberry blonde on me. If I apply a regular or light blonde, will it fix the red areas? I know it says to color every 4-6 weeks...but I want to change it now. Will it be safe to or should I go back to the salon and have them take care of it?

honestly, it's your hair and it's a major part of your appearence, i've never dyed my own hair but i imagine you could mess it up if you dont know what you are doing...i suggest you go to a professional and have them fix it, it's prolly your best bet...

When dealing with shades of blond Id say go to a professional... if you wanted darker its easy at home but to achieve the correct color at home is hard... especially when it comes to lightening...

I would definately go to a salon. A lot of ppl don't realize, home coloring prods. differ from salon prod. in that they aren't as "strong" to make color change, b/c the companies are afraid of lawsuits. I do use a home prod. just to touch up my roots, & that's all. Good luck.

I am a stylist and although I have reccomended to girls on her ebefore to go ahead and color at home, when it comes to LIGHTENING after already processing once, you need to head to the salon.

The only way you are going to be able to get rid of that red color now is to "break your base" which will require bleach and you DO NOT want to do that at home.

You need to be using a protien treatment EVERYDAY for 3-4 days before you go to the salon and be sure you pick exactly what you want this time because there may not be any hair left if you lighten it after this.

Be very easy on it in the mean time. Try not to shamoo too much. USe the protien and DO NOT HEAT STYLE if you can avoid it.

PM me if you have anymore questions.

Garnier is a Semi-perm. i LOVE it! This is what i just used on my hair the last time. My hair went dark for me. It seems i bought the wrong colour, as i was trying to go over all the dark brown i had put in my hair and the red with it, to a blonde.

I went back and bought a box with a lighter colour! And did it about a week later...because this stuff fades out gradually anyway, that's the purpose of Semi- Perm, what it's made to do!

I bought a lighter colour and put it right over what i had! It worked. I have much less fear with the Semi's that i do permanent colours these days.

but now that i have the colour i want (and am keeping) i will buy the blonde highliting kits again in the future!

But that is me. What ever you feel. My hair takes a beating, and stays super healthy anyway.

I condition, do hot olive oil treatments, and hair masks! It works after beating all your cuticles on your head!

Go ask a salon if they can correct it! I would if i have not been playing around with my hair for 3 years very harshly.

    Good luck,

    Pamela

Thanks ladies. The color really isn't that bad, I just wanted it a little lighter. But I certainly don't want it falling out and breaking.... It really seems to feel fine. That avacodo conditioner that came with it was great! I have about 6 different salon shampoos and conditioners and none are really any better. I tried to see if they made a regular size but could not find any.

Hey Pamela, that's what I had planned on doing. It's been about a week. But I need to rethink my decision. Although I can see why doing it at home is appealing. Not just the cost savings. But it was so easy. I couldn't believe how easy and non-messy it was. It only took a total of 40 minutes including wait time. I have long hair, but it is baby fine, so it absorbed easily. And it rinsed away so easy too. I'm usually at the salon for 2 1/2 hours when I go. So for girls that do color at home...this product was so easy on my hair. It still feels baby soft..... I just need to change the color. Just thought I would share that for those interested in the Garnier product.

    SBG...thanks...I will PM you.

Fuck i had a whole message got bumped off.

Yes actually WARM olive oil treatments! Any cooking oil will do! Heat up and put on dry hair for 3 minutes! Wrap with a warm damp towel or put a shower cap on and wait. Shampoo out!

With all the belaching and colouring i have done to my hair for the past 2 years...it's insane. I have very healthy hair...i thank this to olive oil treatments!

Here is when i had the dark still under my hair, and today (picture of the blonde was taken yesterday) That's how i am keeping it! I bought black clip on extensions if i ever want to wear the look again from time to time!

    Great tip Pamela!

I just used an aloe hot oil treatment I bought from Sally Beauty Supply for a buck. It worked well, but olive oil at home sounds even better!

if your trying to speed up getting out a semi permanent, wash it with somthing really strong, like prell ,and condition alot because the oils in conditioner breakup the color (or somthing like that) and then wash again. but its somthing you need to do often and if your hair is really dry all the washing might hurt it

also, for home dyers, remember the dye isnt like paint! you need to take into acount your own hair color. and anytime you go lighter yellow is left behind so you need to counter act with ash base, or blue. if you want red out the base should be greenish, its just like on a color wheel.

you can buy wella dye at sally beauty and it say the base right on the box, no messing with vauge color discriptions.

Wella color is REALLY good stuff. It happens to be the color used at Vidal Sassoon Salons all over the world and there you will pay 200-300 for a base color and highlights!

    Hi Pamela.

I'm typically a lurker and don't post much but I have to mention that I LOVE your hair. I'm going to try that with my blonde hair too as I was born a natural brunette. Your hair looks so healthy!

Thanks! It appears very healthy with all the colouring and bleaching done to it for 2 years. It will stay this way now.

Glad you like it. I cut alot off. But it is down my back again...but in choppy layers which i hope to grow it and cut.

Olive oil treatments really work! My hair needs oil on the ends and the middle, so it just sucks in the oil!

    Good luck,

    Pamela
