Thumbs down What my nurse/friend thinks about implants

    Hey ladies

I was talking to a nurse @ my doctors office about wanting implants. She proceeded to tell me some things! She said that I'll have a big scar!I told her I wanted them through my underarm(she said thats the most complex way).I'll have to climb up a wall(for them to heal). She also said it's like putting a rock in a sock. She said that I was misinformed and that once you get cut you will always have an open pocket from where the implant was.
I wasn't getting a consult, she and I are just cool! She doesn't want me to get BA she thinks I should just exersize my chest muscles. Do any of you women of color have pics of your scars to post???

shes a load of shit imo...or jelous....

do extra research- theres plenty of sites out there, and docs and girls here who can tell you how it really is.

you will not necessarily have a big scar.
as for climbing up a wall. wtf!?
having a cut where the pocket is,means nothing. i mean unless your planning on removing your implants after 10 years and not replacing them....even then, havinga pocket cut in natural breats doesnt matter. it doesnt change the shape of the breast or anything.

personally, i dunno what shes on about....

    thanx mermaid

I told her about the research id done on the net. She said I was misinformed! about the climbing the wall. she motioned her arms going up and down the wall. I know I laughed as she was doing it! I don't think my scars will be too bad. I had a c-section and my OB said she saw 50 that day and mine was the best!!

I have yet to see a noticeable scar on a girl with a BA... I know a lot of girls who have had them. The underarm is better(from what i've been told). I dont know a whole lot about BA's, I personally am not a fan of them, out of all the ones i've seen I think i've only seen one set I like. But I figure everyone has a preferance and if you want one thats great. Maybe she is just trying to turn you away from getting them out of jelousy or she doesnt want you to spend your money on something that can possibly go wrong, cause you pain and greif and mess up your natural beauty. I know its rare that a BA goes wrong but that could just be her train of thought. Do your research, get a couple of consults and make sure you get a damn good surgon with a good track record.

I have learned through my own experiences that when people spew this type of nonsense out of their mouths,it is purely out of jealousy and being too chicken sh*t to get this done themselves.

Mine were done through the armpit. Here are two pics.I have made a circle around the scar in the second pic.My surgery was 10/8/98.

what about through the belly button? isn't that supposed to be essentially scarless, since the navel is a basically a scar anyway?

I don't know specifically about BA's through the belly button, but my friend just had a different where she opted they go through her belly button and she is having a hell of a time healing. Her stitches started disolving before she was healed and then she got a bad infection b/c of that. (The stitches disolved at the right time, but her belly button isn't taking to closing up properly). I know everyone is different, but that would make me more nervous than around the nipple or underarm. You use your stomach muscles too much, ya know?

(or am I just completely wrong about how they would do this procedure? -i.e. it wouldn't affect the stomach muscles and such. )

My PS told me women should never, ever get implants through the bellybutton. He said there are all kinds of complications with it. I cant remember exactly what he said just that he was very against the idea.

I've seen scars, minimal scars, and almost no scars. To give accurate information, the nurse could have given you the positve side too. She is correct in some cases--but as you have read from the other girls posts, many woman have healed quiet well. The fact is everyone heals differently and some surgeons are more skilled than others. You just have to find the facts, be warned of the risks (what the approach will be if something goes wrong), and take very good care of yourself while healing.

How much you scar is based upon three things: How good your doctor is, how well your body heals, and how closely you follow post-op care instructions.

Your friend is very sadly mis-informed. She seems to be coming more from "personal opinion" than from any real knowledge.

    Just throwing this out there...

The worst thing about implants (in my opinion) is that they make it much more difficult to detect breast cancer. As you know, how quickly you find it usually makes the difference in whether you survive it or not. If you have any family history of breast cancer, please think long and hard about whether you think implants are worth the increased risk of death.

I don't have a picture to post, but I got cut right through my nipple,I have virtually no scar! I have very pink nipples to so I thought they would be very noticeable, but I got lucky (and this was from a plastic surgeon who everyone says "hacks" girls....

I am also a nurse now,and I agree with some of the ladies above,it does matter about how healthy you are for healing purposes and how you maintain them after,I found that putting Polysporin or even Vitamin E oil on the scars after will help.

If I was asked by a patient about it I would have recommended getting some references from past patients, see how they are today,if any complications arrised.....as said above, everyone is different,it is a chance that you take!

    Hope this helps,and good luck!!!

not true at all. when i went for a mammogram they asked if i had implants. they compress the breast in diffrent ways with implants. they were very thorough and since i hadnt had one before they saw a spot (im convinced this was scar tissue from the implants) and called me back in for a second one. they smooshed my boobs all kinda ways. it came back fine. if they are experianced at all the tech and the radioligist can find anything implants or not. i asked my PS when i got them if it would be more diffecult to see in the mammmogram he said no.

With a mammogram, yes. However, most of the time the woman herself (or her partner or child) notices the lump first. It makes it harder to detect that first little lump if you have a big bag of gel or silicone or whatever sitting on top of it.

about the TUBA incision (bellybutton), ask ksalerio... hers are absolutely amazing.... and looked amazing like 1 day post op.... shes had no problems... the only issue ive heard is that some doctors can no place TUBA implants correctly... but if you go to a doc that specializes in it, than it isnt a problem...

I've had 2 BA's and the insisions are in the nipple area, one under the other one.You cannot see anything at all.The scars were a little pinkfor maybe a month, but that was it.All my friends and girls I've worked with are the same, even the ones who had 4-6 BA's.

I'd ask your nurse friend which doctor did the BA on these girls who have made such a negative impression on her and make sure that you don't go to that doctor. I think if you spend time, money, and effort to get a doctor who knows what he is doing, you will most likely be fine. I think it usually is when girls try to get a deal on a boob job, by cutting costs or going local because it is easier, that they get the hacked up rack your friend has been seeing.

okay, through the armpit is the most difficult way, because you are going to go totally under the muscle instead of partially or over. The scars are unnoticable, even in women of color. I found some scar pictures, but they are all white women. You should get the idea though.

    http://www.advanced-art.com/Trans-ax...gmentation.htm

Also, TUBA is difficult to perform and a lot of complications can arise. I have done a lot of research about BAs and TUBA seems to be the least desirable method among plastic surgeons. There seems to be a lot of room for error with not that much benefit.

Also, the "rock in a sock" comment. Anyone that has ever felt an implant before knows that it is soft. If you squeeze it, it feels like what it should feels like. What happens in that when you put it in your body, your body naturally forms scars tissue around it. This can be hard, but it's important to massage it frequently so it stays soft.

If you go completely under the muscle, it causes minimal interferance with a mammogram...which you should consider getting yearly if you are at risk, and especially if you have implants.

The only bad scars that I have seen are in women who form keloids.
