Default Do you believe in ghosts?

SO last night I was fast asleep in my bed and I am awakened by this HUGE crash. A table downstairs fell. No apparent reason. It's just tipped over and all the shit on it is not all over the room. I don't have a pet and my bf was right beside me in the bed. I am usually an early riser and need to shower before I even say goodmorning and lately when I take my am shower, I feel like someone is watching me. It's VERY strange. So I am now in the habit of lifting the shower curtain and tying it up so I can see through the clear liner in case anyone comes in.

Anyone else a total psycho or is it just me?

Think ghosts get more activce around the holidays?

Yes.I am a firm believer that there are para-normal beings around us.

I've had a lot of encounters with what I believe to be ghosts. My biggest one I remember is when I was in the hospital I was fast asleep and woke up and I swear I saw my dead great grandmother standing in front of me. Even know I have what feels like a dream and its my nanny who died last year talking to me. Whenever I am sick I feel like there is someone over me or around me watching me taking care of me. Im a very firm believer in para-normal activities but I believe they are mostly positive ones here to help us/watch over us.

I didn't until I lived in a haunted house. Here is where my ex-wife tells the story:

Something pretty cool happened to me that showed me there is life beyond this mortal life.
When I had my first art show, I dedicated it to my parents, and to the memory of my grandmother and her leopard-print bikini. A bit of background here...

My grandmother was this brash, outspoken, colorful woman who was fiercely independent her whole life. She did what she wanted, and didn't care what anyone thought of her. She was stylish, kept her hair blonde and styled, and drove a big white Lincoln Continental. She was one of the guiding forces in my life, and my family tells me I am the most like her out of all the grandkids. When I think of my childhood, I think of summers at the lake, my grandmother's wild strawberry jam she made for her grandkids, and my grandmother lying in the sun on the lakeshore, covered in baby oil, sunning herself in her leopard bikini. Gram was a sun worshipper--she spent every winter in Florida, was never without a tan, and didn't have a line on her face. That leopard bikini was the stuff of family legend--we ALL remember the leopard bikini. It was this fabulous, high-waisted two- piece, very sixties.Like something Bettie Page would wear, frollicking on the beach.

Years later, my Gram succumbed to Alzheimer's. The last time I ever saw her, she was so tiny and frail, sitting in a wheelchair. Her hair was now white, she couldn't speak or walk, and did not know her family members. It was the saddest thing I'd ever seen in my life. She stayed like that a few years, before she finally died.

Years later, and I am now an artist. I truly believe my grandmother's spirit helped me find my path, and so I dedicated my show to her memory and her leopard-print bikini. This is how I remembered her---strong, tanned, brash---and it is that memory I wanted to honor.

So, I have my show, and it is a wild success. After my show, I left Vancouver and returned to Alberta. When I arrived at my parents house, they tell me a package has arrived for me. It is huge. I open it, and inside is--my grandmother's leopard bikini, mounted on matte, framed, and behind glass, like a piece of art. I couldn't believe it. I was shocked. I didn't think this thing still existed. Turns out my aunt sent it to me from Toronto. I called her immediately to thank her. I had not spoken to this woman in years.

The spooky, cool part of the story is this. My aunt did not know I had become an artist. She did not know that I had had an art show, and that I had dedicated the show to Gram and her leopard bikini. She had been at the lake that summer, and the bikini was hanging on the hook in her bedroom at the camp right where my grandmother had left it the last time she wore it. My aunt said that when she looked at it one day, she decided that it was something my grandmother would want me to have. This was right about the time I was planning my show, and creating the dedication piece to my grandmother.

The leopard bikini hangs on my wall in my living room. I get chills, but in a good way, every time I look at it. I think it was my grandmother's way of telling me she was proud of me.

I'm a creature of logic and rationality.

I neither believe nor disbelieve. I can accept, because it happens, that events occur outside of our ability to rationally explain things. Therefore, it's entirely possible that the cause of these events are outside of the physical, explainable world.

I have had friends and family who have had paranormal experiences, and I don't believe they're making it up, and I don't believe that those experiences are the results of psychosis. I've had brushes with such things myself. Whether the causes of those experiences are material or nonmaterial or something else, I don't know.

So ghosts? Sure. A phenomenon begs for an explanation, and for some of the stuff that I've seen happen, it's as good or better than anything else that I've heard.

Sure their real. If it's bugging you in the shower it is getting an energy kick from the angst you are putting out. Either that or your bathrooms bugged and its letting you know.
I felt weird about my basement. Saw shadows, whatnot, cold chills. One day I was down there, playing on my comp, and I felt something grab at my head, pulling it up. There in the ceiling was this teensy tiny lil black cirlce that I nerver would have noticed if some thing/one(I think it was my grandma) tilted my head just right.
When I just moved in my house I heard a baby crying every time I ot in the shower, my man heard it to.
Now if it's bugging you, you can tell it to get out. I think their guests of our realm, and like any situation, when a guest is naughty, kick their ass out. You can keep them from comming in by putting quince seeds above windows and doors, and carying one in a pocket book. You can find holy water blessed seeds in some places through the catholic church.
Quince seeds won't keep family members from visiting, just the feeding stranger types that haven't crossed over yet.

    That's cool!

I used to live in a very haunted house. And not the good friendly kind either.

More of the boarderline Amnityville Horror varity. And people who never would have believed in haunted houses refused to go into one room of that house, or even stop by late at night.

Even now (8 yrs later) I drive by that house and get the coldest chills, and bad feelings. I drive out of my way half the time to avoid that place.

I have done amature hunting before and this one and a few others, I won't go back to if you paid me. They are just really bad.

And one particulay barn in this area I swear is haunted by a polterguiest. If I had to explain it, it was like the scenes in Harry Potter with the dementors. W/o the actual thingies in the air, but the same feelings. I almost passed out a few times (and I'm not like that at all), but my will to live kept me from doing it.

Honestly I don't think I would have lived if I would have passed out.

We have a ghost in our house now, but I think it's his Great grandma (we live in his great grandparents old house). I don't get the bad feelings, just that I'm being watched.

I posted about our house ghost in this section of SW last spring but the Search didn't pull the thread. Yeah, I always thought ghosts happened to other people until recently. But the comforting thing is that I am now certain of an afterlife. I feel sorry for people who walk around thinking there is no afterlife, but that's another subject....

Quick advice to you to deal with your noisy ghost:

    * Talk in the house, address the spirit, and tell it that you want it to move on & no more furniture wrecking! Be assertive.
    * Let light into the house- sunlight & bright lamplight.
    * Sea salt sprinkled in each corner of the room, behind doors.
    * Cleansing rituals, there are many, from Christian to Santeria to Wiccan- choose your favorite & do it.
    * Prisms & (safely contained) candles can draw "good" spirits
*If anyone living in your home is having addiction issues or mental health problems, make them get help- they are a magnet for bad energy.

OK I hope things work out. Don't be afraid. (Easier said than done, hah..) James Van Praag "sees" ghosts for a living, and he says, "I fear the living more than the dead." A shadow can't hurt you if you won't let it.

Yup, I've got reason to believe there are ghosts around me. I've had a few experiences (including a light being turned off while I was in the shower) over the past couple of years. I'm finally to the point that it doesn't "scare" me- for the longest time I didn't want to believe it because I didn't understand it, but now I'm starting to be a bit more comfortable with it.

None of mine are bothersome, though. I know my great-grandma and grandpa are around (I know for a fact that Mam-Maw was the bathroom light turner offer, and I've seen and heard Pap-Paw on more than one occasion ), and my dog, Sam, and my cat, Kato. I've "seen" Kato many times (out of the corner of my eye)...and so have my mother and step-dad. Sam is the one that likes to knock stuff over and make the birds squeek and the ferrets wake up and want to play. I always take cues from them because they "know."

Mox has plenty of stories, too, from a ghost that lives in Alex's (Mox's half brother's dad's) house. He's an active little guy, to say the least- they don't mind him, though, and he's been "welcome" in their house for a while now.

On a different note...I was at the cemetary today checking up on my great grandma and grandpa's grave (I change the flowers and keep it clean for them). Is it just me, or does it seem like the air is "different" when you're in a cemetary? It's like the wind is stronger and it just feels totally different from when I was outside other places. It's like you can feel spirits all around or something- does anyone know what I mean?

not all spirits are evil or naughty, even if they're annoying. (i say spirits because not all of them are dead humans, or even dead anything-plenty are just creatures existing in a way foreign to our own) think about it. you've been supressing your second sight since childhood, because that's the way our culture is, so they can't come right out and talk to you. sometimes they have to get more obvious. but treating spirits like they are misbehaving children is asking for trouble, since not all of them are dead relatives, and not everything in the world agrees with your assessment that you own your house and the space within it, and that you are therefore ruler of that space. coexist peacefully, and if you don't, stop complaining when others get upset.

Nope, I'm one of those people who has to see something to believe it (which is also why I don't believe in God.) The only way I'd believe in ghosts is if I saw one firsthand.

Deni- I was recently at a cementery & I'd have to say it's one of the nicest places because it's where people show their best sides, from the lovely inscriptions on the stones to the pretty flowers, to good behavior while visiting (at least during the daytime.) & It is said that most "formerly human entities" care about how their remains are cared for (whole other topic.)

I respect venusofwillendorf's feelings about spirit etiquette, but my feelings are that since the living owner of the home is alive and paying to be there, they have priority over any wraith, phantom, ghoulie, whatever you wanna call it. It is possible to try to communicate, but some people aren't interested or do not have the time. From my research & experience, many spirits seem to follow the adage "I know when I'm not wanted" & do leave when urged.
I have my stories, but I don't want to hog the thread & that's all they are, stories...I'm not trying to convert anyone to ghostbusting.....it's one of those things you have to experience to understand.

i believe in ghosts enough to not question it....When I just moved into my new apartment a few months ago...I noticed this gated area right outside my window by the garbage dump, so one day i was walking my dogs and finally rad the placque on the gate door...yea it's a slave cemetery from the 1800s. There are more than 50 bodies buried there...and its in the middle of this huge araptment complex. There are two headstones, one for Violet and one for Solomon...the master's favorites slaves. It's interesting yet a little creepy to know that there are about 50 skeletons who were horribly tortured less than 20 feet out my window!!

The house I grew up in was haunted. There were a couple experiences in my room (t.v. turning on, radio turning on in the middle of the night), but one major one in the hall outside of my room and in front of my parent's room door.

My mom and dad went to bed. Shortly after, my mom got up, went down the hall to pee, and as she was walking back into her room, she said she felt something stop her in the doorway and brush past her. She said she gasped, jumped and scurried back down the hall.

My dad was in bed, and he called down the hall to her and asked her what was wrong. She said, "nothing" and he asked, "did you see a ghost?" It turns out, as she was coming in, he saw the outline of a shadow or something.

Then, the biggest thing happened to me a couple days after we moved out. The house was empty, and my bedroom still needed another coat of paint, so I told my mother I would do it. So, when I got there, I didn't even think about the fact that they would have it locked up. The doors hadn't been locked in twelve years (it was in the country). So I get there and realize I have no key. Jokingly remembering my mom's story about the ghost, I knocked on the door and said, "ghost let me in." and sighed heavily as I wondered about which window might have the greatest chance of being unlocked. Then, out of nowhere, I heard two loud, hollow bangs from inside the house. My heart stopped, and I looked around at my neighbors to see if there was any construction or something going on...my first thought. I could see noone, and got a sinking feeling. I tried the door, and it was unlocked. I about pissed my pants.

Well, since the table toppling incident i havent seen/heard much activity. i called my church and sked the priest what he reccomends. he said he had someliterature i should read and study. i think it is more about inner peace than combating ghosts but ill try anything.

I'll keep you guys posted on waht happens with my visitor. so this is kind of weird...

when i was 2, my dad was disgnosed with cancer. at that time we lived in a house but as he got worse we had to move to a condo with less maintenance so my mom could take care of everything. when i was 9, he passed away. well, we moved to a house shortly after.

I recently moved into a new place IDENTICAL to the condo. it was built by the same people so they are the same but have different owners and are in different parts of town. Wonder if this could have anything to do with my now "friend".

I dunno. I was always a "that shit does not happen kinda person."

But then my sister dies with me with her...Should not have happened but she crashed. I can't explain anything around here now. Or my daughter. Or my new ROOMIE who also thinks strange stuff may be happening....MR. Logic.

I have to get my sisters Urn out and scatter her ashes....it's in my home as i watched how they do it. Sad indeed. But i needed closure. She was only 44.

Anyway. My Mother says NO please don't throw her away....Well i am not, her wish wash to be scattered over land!

    Needs to be done.

If anyone REALLY knows or has experienced anything they SAW...please pm me about this.

I am in therapy since her death...still over a year now since she died.

I've never seen one. But I don't disbelieve. Maybe it's because it's so hard for me to let go.

I've talked to normal people who swear they've seen flying saucers, though not the 'beings' some talk about. I haven't see any of those either. Similarly, I don't know if they are here, but I have no reason to disbelieve either.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

NOTE: anything I post here, outside of a direct quote, is my opinion only, which I am entitled to. Take it for what you estimate it is worth.

soybeangirl- on a practical note, did you check for signs of entry in your house..maybe someone broke in & bumped into the table, then fled? I know the cynics reading this thread are probably like, Why not suggest the most rational explanation?.....

Pamela- I do not have visual experiences with "spirits" but sensory (touching) experiences. (I have joked that strippers are hypersensitive to touch since we deal with clientele trying to grope us all the time...LOL...) The first times were very negative (scary) but the last incidences were beautiful. I think someone was trying to give me a message & comfort me at the same time. (PM me for details, I can't post.)

What Soybeangirl has described hasn't convinced me that she has a ghost and not perhaps a crafty and potentially dangerous stalker? I don't mean to worry you, but it would be a good thing to not completly rule out first. You have a husband so a weirdo would have to be extra slick and you have no pet to alert you if someone comes around.

Yes, I do believe in ghosts and other um energies exist though. I used the Ouiji board alot when I was a teen and dabbled in spellcraft. I learned that some things are definatly not to be messed with spiritually and dropped it all. For me personally, I don't like to meddle anymore and I'll leave it at that. I've never seen a ghost itself with my eyes, but from what I've noticed personally myself. They do seem to be able to make noise and move stuff sometimes.

Anyways, I guess I have lots of stories. I have an oddly supernaturally prone family, the previously mentioned, did a little ghost hunting for a website I created for a while and grew up in a house with some weird stuff of it's own. I'll tell you all about one of the stories that happened there that really freaked my mother and I out.

We each had a parakeet when I was about 10 or 11 or so. They were more interactive than the usual parakeets you just keep in a cage and feed. They ran around the house for playtimes, did simple little tricks, one could talk. They were really affectionate, hanging out on our shoulders and so forth. I'd even take mine out with me outside. I would have her the flight feathers on her wings clipped, so she couldn't fly away. It's a fairly normal thing to do to birds when you want to let them go outside. You have to be very careful doing it though because they can bleed to death easily. Their blood is thin and don't have much of it in the first place.

So anyways, one day, we accidentally trimmed a feather on my parakeets wing too short... It didnt start to bleed immediatly, so we didn't notice we had come so close to the vein. It began to bleed in the middle of the night tho after we had all fallen asleep. Even though I was just a few feet away and she fluttered around some, I was too deep asleep to hear her and wake up to help her. I was horrified and guilt ridden at what I found when I woke up and lifted the cloth sleeping cover off the cage in the morning.

So progress to early the next morning, after the death. My mother and I were getting dressed to go to work and school. She was in her bathroom and I was in mine, seperated by a 15 foot hallway, with my bedroom inbetween. Her bird was in it's cage in her bedroom by her.

I heard her bird chirp out quickly and very loudly. It was the kind they usually did to call to the other one since they always wanted to be put together in the same cage. A chill went down my spine and stopped still when I heard my bird call out from my bedroom in return. Her bird called again quickly, as they always did, and again a quick chirp in reply coming distinctly from my bedroom. My mom's bird then chirped a third time, but no more reply came... although he kept trying.

I poked my head to look down the hall and my mom poked her head out to look at me with the same scared amazement on her face at the same time. I said did you hear that? She said yes as we both looked at my bedroom door. We then preceeded to majorly trip out. It never happened again.

So for rational sake, to rule out the only un-supernatural things that could have tricked us into thinking we heard her chirp when it was something else, we brainstormed. There were no other caged parakeets/parrots at a neighbors house. Wild birds don't sound the same either; had one chirped next to my window outside my bedroom. The only other explanation we could think to rule out was a shared hallucination. Our minds filling in the sound of my bird calling back until our concious mind kicked in again, correcting it like that word game that omits letters but you can still read it? Both of us?

We think she either came back to say goodbye to us or she couldnt resist the call of her best friend one last time.

If you do find you have a ghost, try moving around the furniture. There have been alot of hauntings that stopped after renovations to a haunted area as well, but that's pretty drastic. You can also try talking to the ghost, acknowledge he's there and suggest kindly that he go somewhere else. Other than that if he really gets on your nerves, since he's breaking your shit, seek out a "proffessional" to take care of your problem. Look for a recommended psychic or a RL ghostbuster to help you.

Dont be frightened, ghosts were just people like you and me.
