    Default Tarot Business

I have been dancing on and off for a while. I'm 24, been doing this since i was 21. During this time I realized I had a talent for reading the tarot cards. In fact I am quite good. I am thinking of capitalizing and making money off of this.

I would like to set up a business doing tarot for some clients. however i dont want to pay taxes. i was thinking of posting my phone number OR screen name on AOL whichever one the IRS cant trace back to me. also, i was thinking of getting a PO box where i'll receive my payments.

is this a good idea or really dumb? u guys can be blunt with me.

    Need I say any more?

If you have any kind of business, you will have to pay taxes. Trying to avoid paying taxes is like putting your head into the mouth of a lion. You may not get your head snapped off the first few times, but it's only a matter of time.

You underestimate the ability of government entitites to track people down. You want a PO Box? Hand over your Drivers License and a Credit Card Number. Want a phone? You can buy a "loadable" cell phone, but it's not worth it. To get any kind of service, you'll have to prove you are who you are. Especially since 9/11...they've been making sure that they fill in the cracks that people used to be able to easily exploit.

If you work on a sidewalk and run a cash-only business, I suppose you could. But that's really under the radar.

With today's automatic reporting, this is the ONLY way that it could be done ! However, in most major cities, this 'territory' is already staked out, meaning that any newcomers to the street game will be extremely unwelcome.

If nothing else, EVERY bank account, every internet account, every credit card processing account internet or non-internet, is going to require that you list your real name, real address, real SS# (or business TI#) etc. Thus a paper trail is going to be created showing how much money that you received. Some of these paper trails will be automatically reported to the IRS in the form of 1099-misc forms, while other paper trails will require a phone call or fax or email from the IRS requesting information. About the only method of receiving payment which does not have automatic reporting requirements or phone call information release to the IRS would indeed be the PO box you suggested - but your clients would all have to send money orders because cashing checks would wind up creating a paper trail.

What's so bad with paying tax! Think about it!

I would rather pay tax on $20 earnt so that I can spend the after-tax money as I please without any worry... than spend the $20 worrying that my purchase might get me audited.

Sheesh.. just pay the tax already. It's less worry and hassle in the end.

GCG is absolutely right! I'd be HAPPY to pay the tax actually knowing that I just made even more money to give me the ability to pay that tax to begin with.
