There are as many kinds of vegetarian food as there are food. What kind of food do you like? What are your favorite types of meals presently?
I mainly enjoy all sorts of food, but tend to go for ethnic. Greek, Chinese, mexican etc.. i know i can make some recipes that call for meat vegetarian, by adding 'veggie' meat or just ommiting it completely. I just need meal plans where it lays out what to eat.. just for some variation on my normal plans.

OK, that gives me a good starting point. :-) I'll ask my sweetie for some of the recipes he makes regularly, since I could only recount them from memory right now, and I'll post 'em. There are some really amazing southwest-style pinto bean burgers we had just the other night, and he makes a lot of Chinese food too.

I used to be vegetarian in high school, for ethical reasons but I thought it would help my health. I ended up overloading on carbs and fatty foods and gained tons of weight. I've stopped being veggie and lost the weight again and now have came back to my veggie ways because the guilt got the best of me. This time around I'm losing weight and keeping up energy by making sure all of my meals have a large portion of veggies and fruits. I try to keep unnatural sugars and startchy carbs to a low amount. I drink whey protein shakes to keep my protein high. There are way too many vegetarian foods to list on this site, but I'm sure you can find websites in high numbers with receipies. I hope this helps.

Indian food, it's yummy, healthy, and mostly vegetarian.

I'm a lazy vegetarian. I buy Linda McCartney's microwave meals and eat nutrician bars during the day.

Yummy healthy veggie snack:
2 fresh roma tomatoes
1 tsp. garlic (1 clove)
1 tsp. fresh basil leaves
1.5 tsp. olive oil
1 tsp. red onion
2 Tbs. grated parmesan cheese
5 oz. sourdough baguette
got from KFMB san diego
I love veggies food. Meat is just to annyoing to cook sometimes.

Oh -- here's a meal-sized salad that's one of the best raw veggie dishes I know. Raw food is higher energy and this stuff is really good for you.
1 ripe avocado, cubed
1 apple, cubed
1 clove garlic, chopped
Dressing: mix 2/3 olive oil and 1/3 balsamic or apple cider vinegar, add to taste
Optional -- add some cubed cheese -- sharp cheddars work well. "Dubliner" Irish Cheddar is my favorite cheese on earth.
I LOVE this stuff and it's great for the winter, when you want heavy foods to burn in order to stay warm, but need fresh veggies to keep you nourished and energetic. The garlic also keeps up your immune system.
. . . Oh, and as far as simple on-the-go food -- like for work -- I buy these energy bar treats called California Suncakes from the nearby natural foods store. They also come in a "heart health" version which has the same ingredients but is shaped like hearts, two small bars to a package instead of one large.
Gosh,
It's been a long long time since I did the Vegetarian thing. However, when I was member of PETA, and very big into animal rights I dated this guy who was a major political activist who taught me a thing or two about vegetarianism. Now, let me just preface this by saying I'm no expert and don't know if he truly was either. We were hippies...![]()
I practiced this for about 6 years of my life. I learned that a true Vegetarian eats no animal of any kind period. No fish, No chicken or beef. No animal by product of any kind either. I learned that there are some Vegetarians that are in a class by themselves and they are classified as Lacto Vegetarians, meaning they will take in Dairy product (which is an animal by product) or Ovo Vegetarians, (which means they will eat eggs). Or they may do both Lacto/Ovo Vegetarians. Some die hard vegetarians from days gone by don't consider these to be true vegetarians, but that is a debatable topic on it's own. It's all Political...
What I also learned is that you can become anemic very quickly while on a diet of this type, and lose essential B vitamins and iron if you don't either A) take vitamin supplements to replace what you don't get in your normal vegetarian diet or B) eat a certain way and certain foods in certain quantities to gain these essential vitamins. There are essential fatty acids that come from meat that you cannot get from vegetables period. So your body is accustomed to this... you may need to consider some more homework on the diet before starting. It does involve some work and really eating carefully.
