Default I was a stripper too!

It seems as if every woman I meet says that she's been a stripper. I take offense! Doing an amateur night does not a stripper make. Working 2 weeks then quitting does not earn you the title. You have to deserve it. You have to want it. You have to work it. This job is not a token.

Maybe I'm being unfair. I don't care though. I don't like it when Average Jane decides to say that she plays in my league.

I'm not sure what street cred a woman needs to say, "Yeah, she's stripper," and not have me jump on her butt. Working at least 2x/week for 3 months? Planning long term goals in the biz? Having your poon grabbed day after day and still going in the next?

A few months ago my non-dancer friend wanted to do an amateur night at a club, and my club doesn't do amateur nights, so we went to a different club and did the amateur night. She did pretty well. But now she goes around saying that she was a stripper and that it's easy and anyone can do it. It really pisses me off. All she did was go on stage for a few songs. She doesn't understand that being a stripper is more than just going on stage for a few songs.

I wouldn't credit anyone as being a stripper who hasn't had one of those terrible days when everything is miserable, you're completely swamped, running late and knowing your going to be fined, yet you still drag your ass into the club even knowing this is going to eb a slow night because you really have to make some cash this week.

drunk slobs trying to lick you and dumb biches stealing your stuff aren't required but help with your credibility.....

It's true most people have no clue what being a stripper really entails!

Oh I know what you mean, Lizette. I went to a (regular) nightclub here in Vegas the other night and was sitting in a booth while a friend was go-go dancing. As I looked around there were at least four or five couples in booths where the girls were pretty much doing lapdances for their boys. When my friend came by on her break I said to her "I have never seen so many amateur/wannabe strippers in my life."

They think they know, but they have no idea.

    lol, love it!

You don't get to be a Stripper until the stigma follows you. Until you become "my stripper friend" and all that shit.

I have to admit, I don't like using the term "stripper friend" or "dancer friend", but I do use it. That stigma comes from my "civilian friends" who always question the nature and legitimacy of my friendships with women in this industry.

Also, it can be tough to define when a dancer and customer cross that line from being friendly to being friends. In my travels I've been friendly with hundreds of dancers - always have a good time, we're trustworthy and reliable with one another. But of those hundreds, I'd say I became friends (with no qualifier) with maybe a handful of them.

My apologies...perhaps I had a different understanding of "stripper friend"?

Are you talking about when you're named the "stripper friend" in your circle, as opposed to what I'd thought?

(last question in this vein, I promise. it may be OT anyway.)

Its good to see that you're not bitter.
No really, i've been dancing for nine years, i'm now ending a year off and i agree with you. F**k them. I s'pose thats one blessing our job brings us, we're forced to be honest with ourselves. The average civilian woman rarely faces real adversity(on a day to day basis), so rarely has reason nor motivation to question herself or her reality, therefor she readily believes her own bulls**t.

I'm introduced as the stripper friend just as a black person is introduced as the black friend or a Jewish person is introduced as the Jewish friend. I feel like a trophy sometimes.

I found out my business partner was a stripper after we were already friends and decided to go into business together. And she had done it for years as I had....we just naturally fell together. Its not that uncommon...I embrace my fellow brethren with open arms as long as they aren't judgemental about it!
