    Default when weight loss stops

I've been dieting for about 3 weeks now. I put myself on a low-fat and low-calorie diet. I gave up fast food and almost anything fattening I can think of that I used to eat. Mostly been eating vegetebles, some fruit, drinking non-fat milk, other stuff with a low amount of calories according to the nutrition label. I've also tried to devide it into smaller frequent meals so my metabolism is always working or whatever. The first week or so I obviously lost weight and inches. However, I can't seem to lose any more weight now even though I haven't cheated on my diet. Do I need to eat even less calories or do a lot more exercise? Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

I wasn't able to lose the last of my weight till I stopped eating sugar and starches like bread, rice and pasta. Once I did that, my body fat went way down.

I only eat protein and veggies now. Some whole grains like steel cut oats and such.

You might wanna give that a try! good luck!

When I did Weight Watchers, they'd really try to encourage people to stick with their diets during a plataeu. Eventually you do get over it, and I found that I appear to lose weight during this time, even if the scale stays the same.

It's really tempting ot go back to old habits when this happens, but don't! Stop weighing yourself because that's part of the problem.

I plateaued on Weight Watchers. My starting weight was 148, once I got down to 133 I plateaued. That's when I joined Curves. I had never worked out before, so this was a good start for me. It's mostly older women but I like the fact they keep track of your measurements, body fat, etc. Plus it's only 30 minutes. I went 4 times a week till I got use to it then joined a regular gym. I now hover around 109. I am 5'3". I still use the diet as a guide. I think Weight Watchers really educates you on how to eat. The diet is high fiber, low fat so it can pull a number on your stomach if you aren't use to it. I am having a lot of trouble with gas in my gut now but I don't think it's completely related to my diet. If you have anymore questions please feel free to ask me

Don't lower your caloric intake too much lower than it is now.

I would exercise more, and remember muscle weighs much more than fat, so if the scale isn't changing it may be because you are still loosing fat, and the muscle is making up the difference in the pounds.

I would be more concerned about the inches not the pounds. How your clothes fit better, and such. But the pounds should be the last thing to worry about.

Thanks to everyone for their advice. I'm going to stick to my diet, and try out the suggestions and see how it goes. The reason I was concerned about my lack of weight loss was that a good number of the girls have recently lost a lot of weight through less healthy ways (like drugs and more drugs) and I was wondering if you lower the amount of food you eat even though you don't do drugs if you can be that skinny. Since I lost inches really fast at first I though it vwould be easy to continue to do so but I guess not. I guess I do have to do the long term healthy way.

    basic advice-
1)1600 calories a day- no more no less- for the optimum healthy weight loss
2)as much fresh fruits, fresh veggies, whole grains, low fat dairy and lean protien as you can get into 1600 calories
3)sleep as much as you need- either 8 hours or until you wake up naturally- it varies with each person
    4) eat every 2 to 3 hours
    5) drink as much water as you can stomach in a day
    6) take a multi vitamin and/or a omega 3 suppliment
7)exercise often- move around as much as you can during the day, weight train, get the heart pumping for at least 20 minutes a day
remember that inches and jiggle matter more than pounds lost because muscle weighs more than fat
9)plataeus are temporary- stick with it!!!! consistence is the name of the game!!
10)be happy- happy people make endorphins naturally that suppress hunger

ps. have a piece of chocolate everyday!!! it does the body good and the soul even better

You're not losing weight because you're on a low-calorie diet. Your body needs energy. I'ts it's fuel to keep it moving. Also, besides eating next to nothing, what are you doing for fitness? Develop a weight training routine. Muscle does way more than fat. You will see the results soon, and LOVE THEM!

Ok, alll the above advice is great, but there is one more thing you can try. That is, negative calorie foods. Like apples, carrots, cucomber, mangos, kiwi, musk mellon, mushrooms, lettuce, theres a whole bunch of them. There called negative calorie foods because when you eat them, they take more calories to burn then they use.
You can also eat thermogenic burners, like if you drink fresh squeezed juices, add a ginger root, it helps you burn cals and makes your metabolism rev up.
You must find a way to get less calories w/out dieting per say. You need to make it a lifestyle if you plan to stay skinnier then you are.
So, exercise, negative calories, are ways to trick your body with out making it go to a plateau. Also, dont forget that many women gain up to ten pounds per mounth of pure water weight.

Pink Kitten. theres so much advice here you must be confused!
But heres my 2 cents worth....I agree with cinnamonkisses in regard to not eating enough. The more you try to restrict, the more your body starts going into starvation mode and storing fat. There is no magic calorie number to eat to be slim. Everyone is so different. Girls that are losing weight from drugs are losing muscle too, and their losing their health & beauty. That wont be apparent right away but over the course of time. What a sad price to pay.
Dont eat less. Eat smarter. Dont exercise more & more, exercise smarter. The only way to exercise to change your physique is through building some muscle with weights, and doing some cardio to improve your health and burn off some fat. Try to eat fresh natural foods, lean proteins, not stuff thats in packages on a shelf. And eat small amounts often. Its basically a 'bodybuilding' lifestyle, (IM not talking about huge muscular women who look like men, theyre on steroids - think 'fitness model'). A good magazine for info in USA in Muscle & Fitness Hers. Theres just so much on the subject to learn!

Darn I didnt know that. They changed the format after 2003, it used to be a bit more hardcore. Then I moved here and I bought a couple of recent issues of eBay, guess theyll be the last! Theyll keep their website maybe?

My metabolism has hit the floor since I got sick and basically stopped eating. To speed it up, I've used this old trick of when I had a sorta eating disorder (don't worry, I eat a lot more now!). It's called the '2-4-6-8' diet. You eat a little more everyday for four days, so the body thinks it's getting progressively more calories, and so doesn't hold the metabolism down. So, for example, one day eat 1000 cal, 1200 the next, 1400 the next, and then 1600. On the fifth day, go back to the start. It will be enough to get you through the metabolic plateau, and when you've lost enough weight, you can go back to eating 'normally' without a slow metabolism.
