    Default Dance move forums?

I have been reading all these forums and just realized this. There are a bunch on hustling, talking, clothes, hair,....but what about just plain dance tips? I have been practicing but i am an IDIOT and a little SLOW to picking up things. I work better having someone give me the Dancing for Idiot's version So any moves that you girls do that you could break down for us? I have DVDs but they move so fast threw everything!

go to www.verticaldance.com She seems to have some neat things on that site...check out the gallery and the videos. Also look around your local area to see if they offer any pole dancing lessons...those are really good and lots of fun!

a good idea might be to go to a stripclub and just watch the girls...see what they are doing...just sit and take notes on what they are doing...just a suggestion....or maybe get some of the girls from your work to help you out

Just some encouragement. I've been dancing almost three months, and I still consider myself to be kinda uh.... sub-par in the dance category. However... I make very decent money and I really love to dance. I'm getting better and better and so will you. But it doesnt come overnight, and it doesn't mean that you're an idiot. If you're putting off auditioning because you think you look stupid dancing, dont worry about it. It will come in time. The actual dancing is a small part of what the whole business is to tell you the truth. And yet it seems to be what newbies (myself included before i got hired) are mostly concerned with. The obvious performative nature of dancing seems to eclipse the art of hustling which is the REAL performance in stripping.

On a practical note, make sure you go to a strip club to get ideas and see what stripping is REALLY like and practice accordingly. I practiced all kinds of floor work, and then auditioned at a club that does not allow floor work and has no pole. Go figure.

I wouldnt waste my time on movies/dvd's etc because of their totally unrealistic portrayal of strippers. And really really dont bother with any of the Carmen Electra bull-shite. Biggest waste of my time.

    Best of luck to you.

So true about the Carmen Electra DVD collection! I bought a few and was so dissapointed. She really could have done a better job than that! i wish i hadn't wasted my money on it.
Most of the crap it teaches you looks hilarious anyhow and if you did it on stage i'm pretty sure people would laugh at you. Check out the tapes that Fawnia has...they are pretty decent...a much better potrayal of the stripping industry. She teaches some good pole tricks, most are advanced if i'm correct, and she has a lap dance video that will come in handy for you as well.

Shawn was a stripper for 10 years and breaks down the moves piece by piece for pole work and some floor work. She also tells you how to not injure yourself on the pole. Go to to look at the sample.

I just finished Shawn's beginner pole class. I LOVED IT! I'm definitely buying the DVD because there's even more on it than we learned in class. I wish I was going to be around to take the next level.

Seriously, Stitches, get Shawn's DVD. I thought all that too until I took the class and learned it's actually not that hard once you break it down and practice. I still need more practice but OMG, her classes are THE SHIT.

I think I keep making ecusses for myself. I just need to do it. I am a perfectionest and I am nervous that I need to know it ALL before I start. i'm weird

StitchesH, I do have he S-Factor book. And for some reason I still don't know the hip movement thing. I'ts kind of sad, seeing girls that have danced for a week dance better on their feet than me. At least I know my floorwork is ok. I guess I just need to keep trying.

    *Floor work*

Here's the catch ( in my opinion) to doing sexy moves. Think of when your having sex with that special some one. I'm sure you've done the doggy style position, and the original when your legs are spread wide apart. Well while incorporating these moves in your floor work. Do it slow, slowly raise your leg while laying side ways, or on your back, so that they're getting a taste of your peep show. Rememeber to smile. Because wether or not you know what your doing, it reads on your face that your uncomfortable. And then you end up looking like a scared child. So if your smiling or at least look like your having fun, it makes the moves look a lot smoother. But remember have grace, move your limbs with confidence and glade. Do the most obvious with your body. Arch your back while on the floor, stick your butt out slowly, as if in a doggy position. On all fours, then drop your chest to floor. Ya know, improvise!!! Well I hope this helps alittle. But if not, your option is to always go check out the other dancers. And see what they're working with.

compare it to sex. Oh great well I actually have only had sex a few times and I am horrible. Long story on why, but I just feel uncomfortabe. So those positions.....ahhh ya got me lost. I think i might need to go out and get some porn movies and see how they move I don't know. I'll pick it up....hopefully

I've found that I go through long periods of time when I just seem to not be improving and getting bored, and then one day, BAM, I go up a whole notch. So then I'm at THAT notch for a long time, bored and feeling like a bad dancer, until the plateau is over.

I have the S-Factor book, but it hasn't helped TOO much other than sometimes when I feel like I'm doing a move wrong, I can look it up and find a little tidbit of info that sets it on the right track. I sometimes try stealing moves from the other girls -- not the signature ones, but the ones that we all do -- but that only works so-so because I'm not that visual a learner.

One last thing I've noticed is that when I really LOVE the music I'm dancing to, I ALWAYS dance better. If it's just some crap the DJ picked, then I look as uninspired as I am.

I'm going to try to break down Hip circles for PinkKitten:
Version 1: Stand with your feet a comfortable distance apart. Pretend you have a laser light or pen in your crotch and draw a circle on the floor with it. Keep your booty loose. You can even bend over with your hands on your knees and draw a circle behind you.
I learned this in 2 different dance classes--works really well.

Version 2: Belly dance has another way of doing hip circles. Pretend you are wedged between two walls, one in front and one in back. So you can only move side to side. Lift your right hip up and shift all your weight over to the right foot. Now drop the hip and raise the left hip and lean your weight over to that side. Drop the hip and you are back to the beginning. Basically, you have created an infinity sign (figure 8 on its side) with your hips. This is sometimes called the Mayan.

I just picked up a bellydancing video that seems pretty nifty. It's called Instructional Bellydance with Jillina, Level 1. It's got a few good moves on how to use your hips. It's always fun to mix up your dancing with a little flavor from different genres. I know some girls who learned some stuff from ballet, some jazz, etc., and put it all together with their stripping. It looks great. Don't be afraid to experiment. As long as you feel sexy doing your moves, you will more than likely look sexy too. ^_^

hmmmmm.... ever heard of the movie about a young african american college student who turned to stripping to pay her way through college??? "the Players' Club" starring lisa raye is a entertaining movie.... she has a nice dance breakdown where you can get a feel of what to do on stage... although its completeley pg-13... lol! watching other girls is a good idea, as well...

my tips for dancing: smile, make eye contact, pick an energetic song, but go SLOOOWWWWWWW and dance SEDUCTIVE, and TEASE TEASE, TEASE!!!!

I really liked the Carmen Electra DVDs. Of course you can't do the routines in their entirety on your stage sets, but you take elements of those routines and incorporate your own style to it. The lap dance video, however, is anything but a lap dance routine. It works well with stage routines, though.

I still feel like a fool when I am dancing on stage, but everyone seems to think I am a good dancer. So how you feel you are doing really has nothing to do with how you look to others.

The main thing is don't be afraid to look the fool when on stage. If you do stumble or do something dorky, just move on. If you do something dorky, and the guys like it- do it more!

If a man wants to go party with a girl, who do you think he would pick; Nicole Kidman or Cameron Diaz? Chances are that he will pick Cameron Diaz beacuse she is a fun Dork, not Nicole Kidman, because she just seems too uptight to cut loose and have fun.

It really won't be that bad!! I was SOOO nervous and almost backed out of my first audition, and even though I wasn't great, the guys still liked me and I made money anyway. Guys are surprisingly forgiving towards hot chicks. I do have to say though, if you are not that sexual of a person or are not tuned in with your sexuality, you may have a little trouble picking it up. Try dancing in front of a mirror at home with some music and just see what feels and looks right. The rest you will pick up with time.
