All, I find I'll be in Santa Clara on the evening of Jan. 19, flying out the next morning. Any ideas for places to go, things to do (other than watch HBO in the hotel room)? I'm not necessarily seeking SC recommendations. Thanks.![]()

Go see the mission (built when California was being settled by the Spanish)! Have some nice food.
There is Great America if you want to drop off high heights.
Really the interesting places are in downtown San Jose. You can buy a daily pass at one of the train stations and use that to get down there. I think San Jacinto station or something like that. It is 1st street you are looking for. The trains run on what looks like sidewalks so you will know you are in the right place.
I have never had any trouble down there at night either so ya should feel OK about it.
Thanks, guys. What's the local cuisine? I'm definitely treating myself to a nice dinner.
Everything. There is even a Somolian place there! You would have to stay a month to eat every kind of food there is there.Originally Posted by Chicagoeditor

I'm about 99.99999999999% sure that Great America is closed in January. (It was my teen years job.)
If you're into hockey you might check if the San Jose Sharks are playing. They rock!
Downtown San Jose will be a 10-15 minute drive from Santa Clara, BTW. If you do take the light rail, you'll transfer at the Tasman station in North San Jose then get off at the San Fernando or Convention Center stations.
And if all else fails, and you do need to go to a strip club, I'd suggest either the Kit Kat Club in Sunnyvale or the Pink Poodle in San Jose for nude clubs, or AJ's in San Jose, T's 4-Play in San Jose, or the Brass Rail in Sunnyvale for bikini clubs w/alcohol. Bear in mind, none of them will be gentleman's club in decor (they're all pretty much locals hangouts).

Isn't there a horrible, middle school joke that goes, "What do Somolians say before dinner? I'm HUNGRY!"Originally Posted by Deogol

(Currently dieting so any mention of food or dining gets my attention.)
I was in Santa Clara/San Jose this summer. There are a lot of great restaurants. In San Jose, they have a Melting Pot (features fondue), which was very lovely. Overall, it's a great place. The pace of life is really laid back.
I have only seen the restaurant from my light rail rides. It is a small yellow house that was converted into a restaurant right next to all the other converted houses.Originally Posted by Chicagoeditor
I would think it is curried goat (very good on rice) and indian/arab like food.

You're looking for night entertainment, mainly.. right?
Well, I'd recommend two places to choose from:
1) Downtown Los Gatos. Have one of the region's famous Kamakazis at The Black Watch (they are like a Super Big Gulp in size lol).. it's a cool, casual place for friendly conversation.. then hit Mountain Charlies for live music/dancing and party atmosphere. There are a number of good restaurants and other small bars there. Plus lots of cute, stuck-up, rich Los Gatos women to toy with.(and if you strike out there, Los Gatos Lodge is down the street with the 40+ women that'll seduce YOU into going home with them LOL).

2) Santana Row- In San Jose. It's an outdoor plaza loaded with shops, bars, restaurants and night life. It's been a very good place to meet folks, have a few drinks, dance, grab a bite or just stroll the concourse.
