    Default shoe emergencies

i haven't had my first pair of shoes for even a week [just prancing around my house in them!], and the sole is already ripping away from the plastic heel. have any of you run into this problem? do you just glue it back down [and if so, with what sort of glue?]

with all the talk about how shoes are so disposable, post some other emergencies and quick fixes-- anything to prolong their life!

    nice talking with you ladies,

Next time, don't buy cheap shoes. If it tears or breaks while you're dancing, you can be hurt.

    Shoe goo really does help...
And as for not buying cheap shoes, all they are making nowadays are cheap shoes. I try to find the old Pleasers that have lasted me for years.. All the new styles have broken on me since the materials are crap.
Please don't lick me, it tickles..

Dallas Heights is a good brand. Try to avoid buying the clear shoes and shoes with flaring or two piece heels. They suck!

Dallas Heights are GREAT. I second that. They seem to be the tennis shoes of dancing shoes.

I'd love to know if there's a way to fix shoes too. My favorites just "broke." The arch is separating from the inside part. They wobble too much now to be worn safely on stage, and I cant find a replacement pair!

shoe goo does really work well-better than other super glues. Otherwise try to find a shoe repairman. They fix shoes for a lot cheaper than it would cost to replace the shoes.

That was exactly what I was going to say, Madison. A good shoe-repairman is defintly worth finding. I am the only girl I have met while dancing that uses one, but he's soooo much cheaper and practical then buying new shoes every week. (I have big feet and super skinny legs so I go through a lot) The man I go to is an oldeer southern grandpa, type of guy, and I was a tad bit embaressed the first time I went in to him with my eight inch heels. I know, I know, I shouldn't be, but I felt like I was asking my dad to buy me a dildo or something. Icky!!!! And you know what? He has never looked at me with anything less then a nice smile and a hello. *sigh*

Makes me still have faith that there are people out there do not judge us solely based on our professions. *sigh*

Oh, and as far as brand names go my best pair of shoes are made by Jante.

Super glue, or when I had acrylic nails, nail glue. I always keep it in my work stuff anyway. It works great and is a quick fix you can do in the dressing room. If, however, you would like a new sole (I love the rubber, non slip sole), I'm going to side with the other ladies on this, as well. A shoe repairman is a great route to take if you want to prolong the life of your shoes. That is, if you can stand the smell. That's a whole other thread.

I found that buying shoes made in America will last much longer than the shoes made anywhere else. The craftmanship is much better. At Skyskraper Heels, they only sell shoes made by American manufacturers, which is why their shoes are much more expensive. I bought my first pair of shoes there, and paid $90 for my shoes. But, they are the ONLY shoes that I've never had problems with. Nothing broke on them...after wearing them for over a year, they are still in perfect condition, whereas my cheaper shoes, the strap broke or the heel feels "loose".

In MOST cases, you get what you pay for.

Since dancer shoes are made of plastic, there is no set time for wear. I have had pairs of shoes of the same brand that lasted 8-9 months of wearing them off nand on 3-4 nights a week, and others that mess up after a month.

I have worn Jante, Maya, Pleaser, Wild Rose, Tony, Centerfolds, just to name some brands i can think of off the top of my head. Just look for sales if there are a lot of costume stores in your area, and always take 2 pair of shoes with you to work. Also, try to rotate your shoes so you don't wear the same pair every night. I know you are just starting. I never pay $70 for shoes. Usually between $30-$55 a pair. You just have to shop around and when traveling ALWAYS visit costume stores in different cities. You'll find some sales and the more pairs of shoes you have, the less you'll wear each pair, and the longer they'll last.

You probably got fake Tonys. I got some once but our costume lady traded me some authentic ones she had and sent the others back to the company for me. Tony Shoes, when authentic, are a dream!!

i didn't buy them online, though, i went to an exotic dancewear store that seemed pretty legit [not the kind of place i would expect to buy fake shoes from; they guarantee all their shoe products, but i'm on winter break right now so i can't return them]

i hope you find something you like, but i suppose i can't really recommend them, haha.

Yeah, the ones I had were totally different from the authentic ones the costume lady got from the wholesale site. I think the fakes were from snaz75. This was about 2 years ago.
