    Default The Christmas Truce

In 1914, during World War I, soldiers from Great Britain and Germany stopped killing each other and came together for an informal truce when the first Christmas of the war came around.

Here is a link to the story. Its only a page, so its not a long read. 91 years later its still powerful stuff. http://www.fylde.demon.co.uk/xmas.htm

I want to wish everyone on Stripperweb Happy Holidays, whether you celebrate Christmas (regiously, secularly or both), Hannukah, Kwanza or even Saturalia (which just passed).

Lets hope your 2006 is a good one.

I know many people here don't enjoy C/W music, but Garth Brooks wrote a song about this very portion of history Prester_John has posted about here

No matter whether anyone here believes we should or shouldn't be in Iraq & Afganistan, my wishes that the fighting ends and everyone on both sides can go home. But also especially to those in the U.S. military we've completely forgotten. Kosovo and other places spring to mind. May all of you return home safe, sound and as soon as possible!

And to everyone here, from the last few lines of Garth Brooks song,

"Heaven's not beyond the clouds, it's just beyond the fear
No, heaven's not beyond the clouds, it's for us to find it here."

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all, and may everyone here find their own personal heaven in 2006!
